Strong’s #2364 (“Thyateira” Θυτειρα) is the Greek word for
“daughter”. (Today it is written “θυγτηρ”) thygátr,
thoo-gat'-air;
apparently a primary word (compare "daughter"); a female child, or
(by
Hebraism) descendant (or inhabitant):—daughter.”
Quoting Stephanus of Byzantium, by Henry George Liddell, Robert
Scott, “A Greek-English Lexicon:
“According to Stephanus of Byzantium, he called this city
"Thuateira" from
Greek θυγτηρ, θυγατρα (thugatr, thugatera), meaning "daughter",
although
it is likely that it is an older, Lydian name.”
The church had become a daughter of old Babylon.

church in Thyatira write; These things
saith the Son of God, who hath his
eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his
feet are like fine brass;”
Rev 2:29, “He who has an ear, let him
hear what the Spirit says to the
churches.”
Christ had contended with Thyatirian kind of people while living
among men. People who opposed His teachings and set up their own
kind of religion – His people the Jews. They persecuted Him, put
Him through the Inquisition and then they crucified Him.
This paralleled the actions of the Papal church that during the
Dark Ages (538- 1798AD) did the same thing to God's followers. Now
in glory, Jesus comes to his church in a message by which,
hopefully, she will take on board.

Revelation 17:1-5
V21-23, “And I gave her time to repent of her sexual
immorality,
and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a
sickbed,
and those who commit adultery with her into great
tribulation,
unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children
with
death, and all the churches shall know that I am He
who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each
one
of you according to your works.”
Q. WHAT IS THE MESSAGE TO THIS CHURCH?
Rev 2:20, “…because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself
a
prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual
immorality and
eat things sacrificed to idols..”
NOTE: Christ’s tenderness is heard in His voice. He is ever gentle
with people
and tells His church, even after she apostatizes, that He loves her
tenderly. But
if they will not reform, then, as with His ancient people, she will
have to face
consequences.
Q. What were the faithful disciples in Thyatira commended for
and counselled to do?
service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy
works; and the last to be more than the first.”
Rev 2:26-29, “And he that overcometh and keepeth
my works unto the end,
to him will I give power over the nations:
27 And he shall rule them with a rod of iron;
I will give him the morning star.
SUMMARY:
This was the Roman Catholic Church of the Papacy. She
ruled for 1260 years, from 538 – 1798, persecuting the
saints of God. The world was plunged into Dark ages
period. We read,
Dan 7:25, “He shall, a. Speak pompous words against the Most High,
b. Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, c. And shall intend
to change times and law. d. Then the saints shall be given into his
hand for a time and times
and half a time.” (ie 1260 years)
Revelation 3
Sardis was Protestantism
to mid 18th century.
It ended by 1753.
She was almost spiritually dead.
Sardis corresponds with the 5th Seal of Revelation 6.
it covers the period from 538 - 1753.
Rev 6:9-10, “When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar
the souls of those
who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which
they held. 10 And
they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and
true, until You judge
and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
Q. What does Jesus
say to Sardis?
Rev 3:2, “Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that
are
ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before
God.”
She was counselled to:
a. be watchful, and
b. Strengthen her love for the Lord and for the truth.
c. Her works have not been consistent with her
profession.
b. They should rest for a while.
c. The number of persecuted needed to be made up.
Rev 6:11, “And white robes were given unto every one of them; and
it was
said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season,
until their
fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as
they were,
should be fulfilled.”
persecuted saints?
Rev 19:2, “For true and righteous are His judgments, because He
has
judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her
fornication; and
He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.”
Babylon falls at last. The ten kings burn her with fire (Rev
18:8).
Her plagues will come upon her in one day (Rev 18:8).
Her judgment has come in “one hour” (Rev 178:10).
The “ten kings” will burn her with fire (Rev 17:17).
Note: The 6th and 7th plague fall upon Babylon the Great. The kings
of the
earth expose her for who she is and take their revenge. These acts
are
symbolised as being “plagues”. Then the saints will be
avenged.
What does Christ say to the overcomer?
Rev 3:5-6, “He that overcometh,
the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and,
I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,
but I will confess his name before my Father, and
before his angels.
6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches.”
Revelation 3
THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA
HISTORICAL PERIOD 1753 - 1844AD
Rev 3:7, “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write;
These things
saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of
David, he that
openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man
openeth;”
Jesus was now preparing to raise a people who would carry the
message of
the Gospel to the world in a special sense. This is in reference to
the three
angels’ messages, the sanctuary and God’s commandments. It was
trully an
open door for the people of God, and a time for rediscovery of
truth.
Q. What did Christ say to Philadelphia?
V8, “for thou hast a little strength, and
“hast kept my word, and
“hast not denied my name.”
V10, “you have kept My command to persevere,
“I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall
come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on
the earth.”
The Confederacy of Satan is at Work
"Satan has a large confederacy in his church. Christ calls them the
synagogue of Satan because the members are the children of sin. The
members of Satan's church have been constantly working to cast off
the divine law, and confuse the distinction between good and evil.
Satan is working with great power in and through the children of
disobedience, to exalt treason and apostasy as truth and loyalty.
And at this time the power of his satanic inspiration is moving the
living agencies to carry out the great rebellion against God that
commenced in heaven."
Note: Satan will have his followers in the church until the end of
time.
Good and evil will be together until the harvest, for Jesus said
the two
must grow together (Matt 13:28-30, Luke 4:26-29). The enemies of
God
will fall at the feet of Christ’s followers, but not before
Christians have
gone through a time of trouble to try and to purify them. God says
He
will make them as special breed:
Isa 13:12, “I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a
man than the golden wedge of Ophir.”
God's people will be made to look so much like Christ, that their
enemies
will think they are looking at Him in a sense. Just as Christ’s
enemies fell
back when they approached Him in the garden, so they will fall
back
again at their approach to God’s followers in the last day. We hope
that
we will be among these.
Q. What is Christ’s counsel?
•V11, “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that
no one may take your crown.”
Q. What is His promise?
Rev 3:11-12
“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that
no
man take thy crown. 12
Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my
God,
I will write upon him the name of my God,
I will write upon him my new name.”
The Desire of ages, p26
"Of His people God says, "They shall be as the stones of a
crown,
lifted up as an ensign upon His land. For how great is His
goodness,
and how great is His beauty!" Zechariah 9:16, 17. The exaltation
of
the redeemed will be an eternal testimony to God's mercy. "In
the
ages to come," He will "show the exceeding riches of His grace in
His
kindness toward us through Christ Jesus." "To the intent that . .
.
unto the principalities and the powers in the heavenly places
might
be made known . . . the manifold wisdom of God, according to
the
eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

2:7; 3:10, 11)

NOTE: It seems that these Christians had an attitude of
indifference to their true calling. Circumstances now seemed to
have had little effect on their Christian journey and one might be
forgiven for feeling for them being this way. A cold church
actually means a church that has denied her Lord.
Today the remnant church admits and characterizes herself as being
Laodicean.
This really means that she had lost her spiritual identity to some
degree, as being
a holy and special people. This does not apply to everyone of
course, but in
general terms.
The reason is because she has forgotten her pioneering roots -
foundations, and
prophetic mandates.
Jesus wants us to be either hot for Him or cold for Him. There is
no middle
ground in the judgment.
Q. How can this be remedied? It is a work of God, with our
sanctified cooperation:
1. We must repent of our sins and pray that the Lord gives us
spiritual eyesalve to
discern spiritual things. We need to “work out our own salvation”
with fear and
trembling. This is gift from God.
2. We must look back and understand our calling in the first place,
and to place
the three angels’ messages in today’s context?
Our Loss of identity?
