Live pig racing action this weekendRacing piglets (not horses) will be the star attraction this Saturday 9th May at Scone’s Royal Hotel commencing at 12.30pm.The pigs, from Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs in Queensland will go the whole hog and vie for the winner’s circle as they race down Dunlop Strait jumping through tyres in their brightly coloured jackets, each trying to get through the tyre first. Continuing down the course is a trigger gate that is closed – this is where the smartest piglet takes action which has to be seen to be believed! This is just only one of the entertaining obstacle courses and hilarious races on the schedule presented by the ‘Pig Whisperer’ himself, Kevin Kiley who has been in the racing pen for 15 years and brought the little trotters to fame on 2011’s Australia’s Got Talent.
“It will be a very entertaining and fun-filled afternoon,” the Royal’s host Ian Campbell said.
Musical talent by Marcus McLennan will also be a feature of the afternoon of fabulous free family entertainment planned at the Royal Hotel in Kelly Street Scone. For all enquiries phone 6545 1722.

Highest prizemoney ever at Scone Charity RodeoThe Scone Charity Rodeo has always been a big feature of the annual Scone & Upper Hunter Horse Festival. With an ever-growing number of entrants and an award-winning committee at its helm, the rodeo is set to be even bigger this weekend with $40,000 paid out in prizemoney. With approximately 500 entries expected, the Scone Charity Rodeo still boasts the best riders, the best bucking stock and the best action-packed events fans of the sport could possibly expect. All the current ABCRA Australian champions are expected to return and take part in the full complement of rodeo competition.
But this year, the highlight of the rodeo is set to be the new feature event – the ‘Bucking Mule’ contest. The committee’s president, Jade Smith said he can’t give away too much, but fans will be in for a real treat!
Other notable features of the Scone Charity Rodeo are the quality of the stock that originates from all over New South Wales along with the intrepid rodeo clown, ‘Big Al Wilson’ who will entertain the huge crowd expected.
The entertainment doesn’t stop there. Following the rodeo, spectators will be treated to a live performance by Jared Scott and Route 66. The Tamworth band has rapidly earned a big name for themselves and has been described as ‘an exciting act not to be missed’.
Most of the proceeds from the event are filtered directly back into the community. Jade Smith says that funds are normally put towards helping the schools, scouts, football clubs and other notable charities in the local area. An announcement will be made this Saturday night who this year’s recipients will be.
It’s no wonder the event won the 2013 and 2014 ABCRA award for Rodeo Committee of the Year. Jade, who received the award on behalf of the committee, speaks very proudly of this, “It’s a privilege! It’s a privilege to be recognised for what we do, to know we’re going in the right direction and doing things right.”
The Scone Charity Rodeo will be held this Saturday 9th May at White Park, Scone.
Junior jackpot performance kicks off at 8am; rodeo commences at 12pm with the main event blasting into action at 5pm.
Tickets priced as $15 for adults, $8 for children/pensioners and $35 for Families (2 adults, 2 children) and can be purchased at the gate.
