Thursday 22 nd November 2018 Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau, Well the big day is nearly here and our annual Carnival is only a matter of hours away. The event will go ahead no matter what the weather so dress accordingly and come and share in all the fun of the fair with us. To ensure that the day runs smoothly, please turn up in time to your allocated stall if you are one of the over 100 adults helping us on the day. Thank you in advance if you are one of our helpers. It was great to see a good turnout at our BYOD Information Evening held last night. Parents of next years Year 5 & 6 children are reminded that the only device children can use at school are Chromebooks. We will be sending information home about this but please contact us at school if you have any questions or concerns about our BYOD programme and we will be only too happy to discuss these with you. Parents of junior children, feel free to come along to the Poutukawa and Kowhai Athletics which is being held here at school next Friday. The children would love to see you here if you can make it. We have only three more weeks to go of school this year, but the children are being kept on task and working hard. So that they are in a good state to learn and get on with their peers, please ensure that they are getting enough sleep each night so they get through every day in high spirits! See you at the Carnival!! SWIMMING POOL OPENS ON MONDAY! Swimming will start for Kauri children on Monday 26th November. Other classes will start in the last two weeks of term and your child’s teacher will let you know when it is their turn.

Families have the opportunity to purchase a key from the school and then have use of the pool after school, on the weekends and through the Christmas holidays. We have decided to leave the cost of this the same as it has been for the last few years, $170 for the season and then parents get $50 back when they bring the key back when the pool closes on the 29th March 2019. Pool keys go on sale on Thursday 22nd November. Thank you to the generous parent volunteers who offered to go on the pool committee.

SCHOOLS CAN BE DANGEROUS Thank you for your patience while we deal with the inconvenience of not being able to access the front part of the school during our refurbishment programme. Construction areas can be hazardous so we appreciate everyone keeping out of this area.

We have recently had some near misses and at least one collision with people walking past the flying fox when it is in use after school. We remind everyone to be mindful that this can be a dangerous area so please watch out for flying children! If you have friends or family members collecting children on your behalf, please point out this danger to them as well as the last thing we want is for anyone else to get hurt.

Junior Athletics for Pohutukawa and Kowhai NEXT WEEK!

When: Thursday 29th November 2018 (save day Thursday 6th December)

Time: 9:15am to 12.30pm (approx) Where: On the main field at school.

You are all invited to come and support your children for this event, and then you could stay on and

have lunch with your child after the activities ☺.

2018 YEARBOOKS FOR SALE These are always a very popular memento of the school year and are in hot demand. Every child features in the Yearbook and children love looking back at the highlights from their year at school. Order forms were sent home last week but feel free to contact the office if it did not make it home. Yearbook purchases are on a first come first served basis and cost $25 each. We expect the 2018 Yearbook to arrive at school on or around the 10th December and we will send them home with the children as soon as they get here.

2019 CAMP FOR CURRENT YEAR 5 CHILDREN – permission forms in tomorrow A reminder to parents of year 5 children that we would like all camp permission forms returned to the school office by Friday 23rd November. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need another form or if you have any questions about this exciting experience that is likely to be one of the highlights of their final year at Blockhouse Bay School.

INTER-SCHOOL ATHLETICS It was a shame that this event could not take place yesterday. Parents of the children involved are reminded that our

postponement day is next Friday 30th November. (note change of day)

BLOCKHOUSE BAY SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONY – Tuesday 11th December To celebrate our current Year 6's time at our school, we are having a prize giving and graduation ceremony for them. Parents of Year 6 students are welcome to attend this event. All children are initially able to have two family members attend, although there is sometimes the opportunity to obtain extra tickets if they are available. Please make a note of this date if you have a child who is in Year 6. Doors will open on the day at 12.50pm and we will start around 1.20pm.
