Classes for 2017: It is that time of year again when we must begin to think about formulat- ing new class lists. In forming classes for 2017, I wish to emphasise that the staff and I par- ticipate in countless meetings to ensure the wellbeing of all children. Their academic, social and emotional needs, as well as friendships are all considered when determining placements for the new school year. It is also the case that we make professional judgements about children who should be either separated, or grouped together, for various reasons. This is a very difficult task and we endeavour to meet the needs of all involved. I ask that you trust the judgment of the class teachers who have spent the last three terms working with your child and are best placed to make decisions about class lists. However, if you believe that you have a sound reason that you think should be considered, please put this in writing to me by Wednesday 9 November. I also ask that you make an appointment with me to discuss any request by Friday 18 November. No discussions will be entered into after this time. While I make no promise that your request will be granted, I do promise that it will be treated confi- dentially and it will be given due consideration. I would like to emphasise that any requests for consideration must be sent to [email protected] only. I have made it quite clear to the teaching staff that while they are free to have conversations with parents, it is not appropriate for them to be placed in a possibly compromising position when the time comes to formulate the various class lists. I have no doubt that in consideration of the quality of the teaching staff we have here at St Mary’s that your child will be well catered for regardless of the class in which they are placed. I know that this is always an anxious time for parents, however I ask for your help in this mat- ter as outlined above and I thank you in advance for your support. PEAB The Annual General Meeting of the Parish Education Advisory Board is set for Tuesday 6th December at 7pm. The parent body is now invited to put forward nominations to join the PEAB. All parents are most welcome to attend.

This year we have a minimum of 3 positions to fill with Luke Kenealy, Chair, and Caroline Redman, Secretary, hav-ing completed their two terms, along with Michael Elsworth, who will retire at the AGM. Michael Hegan, Amy Burns and Mark Gustincic have served their 12 months as nominated representatives. New representatives of the Parish, teaching staff and the P&F will be nominated at the AGM. Sophia Ziebell--Barnes, Vice-Chair continues her first term in 2017. We sincerely thank each member for their commitment, guidance and contribution.

The PEAB serves to provide inspiration, leadership, informed advice and support to the Parish Priest and Principal, with a view to assisting them in realising the vision of St Mary’s school as a challenging, dynamic, high achieving and caring community. The Board meets at least six times per year for about 90 minutes. An agenda is set by the Executive one week prior to each meeting. All items for discussion are set in consideration of the guiding principals found within the Board’s Constitution. These include:

To nurture and support the Catholic ethos and identity of the school

To act as a forum for discussion on the educational matters concerning the school

To advise on and assist with the development of strategies and action plans to support and maintain the vision of the school

To provide support for the school in the development of facilities

To advise on budget planning and finance-related matters

To work in collaboration with the school parents’ auxiliaries

To assist with activities which promote the school within the parish and the broader community

To facilitate the integration of parents and children new to the school

To develop school/ community relationships and encourage home/school and home/parish integration

To liaise with Catholic secondary schools attended by children from the parish, particularly with regard to the provision of places for children from the parish

Extend OSHC at St Mary’s Primary School Weekly Recap

Let's recap week 3 of Term 4 We kicked off week three with some craft that celebrate springs ever changing weather. We made our own sunshine, fluffy clouds, rain drops and lighting bolts for the very cool weather mobiles. Each one was so unique and clever in how they used the materials. Outside we got out the beanie bags for a throwing contest, a fun little game that got trickier as it went on. Tuesday we had all of 5 minutes outside before it started pouring down! But that didn’t bother us as it simply inspired all the more creativity. With felt, pom poms and pipe cleaners we made a menagerie of animal puppets! Lions and tigers and bears OH MY! I was so impressed with how dedicated everyone was to making their puppets unique and detailed. This was a tremen-dously popular activity and one we will be sure to do again. A little later on a few of us planned and performed a little show in the hall with dancing, singing and acting! Wednesday the spring theme continued with our very own DIY bird feeders! We mixed and mushed all the ingredients together and had a ball getting a little messy in the process. While we let them dry we made the most of the better weather with some balls games outside. We also had a few kids build an awesome blanket fort on the deck! Which soon became a budding busi-ness trading toys for monopoly money. Thursday the sun came out at last and we made the most of it! Heading down to the lower playground we had soccer, downball and tiggy! In the sandpit we had some very clever engineering, building bridges, tunnels and roads. While in the shade a few of us got crafty making animal masks out of paper plates and en-joying a few good games of uno. Friday we had storm clouds inside and out of the art room! In a

cool little science experiment we made a little storm cloud with

shaving foam and food colouring. It looked very realistic and was

fascinating the way the colours dispersed and not to mention,

the cream was a lot of fun to play with! We all got into some

painting too, many making getting excited for halloween and

making some spooky creations. We then had a ball with balloons

in the hall making up some great games that ensured plenty of

laughs.

I look forward to seeing everyone next week.

Katie, Team Leader.

Important Notices & Reminders: Hats:

As it begins to warm up it’s important to think about sun protection. It appears most kids leave their hats in their classroom overnight so I would like to request that parents put a spare hat in kid’s bag for after school care.
