Thursday 18th June
Bonshaw Public School
Dear parents, care givers and community, During this odd and testing time of Covid 19 our students have been enjoying a positive and forward moving time of learning at Bonshaw Public School. Senior students have been working on there STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) projects. These involve a number of state of the art tools, including 3D Goggles, I phones, 3D cameras and Robotic Lego kits. I have been learning along side the students and it is both intriguing and challenging. All students have been challenged with some creative craft ideas this week. Our new hockey nets have arrived ! Hockey is our PE focus this term, as well as athletics. Unfortunately all inter school competitions have been cancelled until further notice. Many school activities are still limited but this may change in the near future, these include excursions and camps, Parent attendance at assemblies and other school events, parent/community based gatherings such as fundraisers. When we resume inter school activities I am certain that we will be interacting with a number of local schools. School reports will be a simplified version this semester and published by week 6 of Term 3. At present any parent requiring an interview can do so via telephone or online. Please encourage your children to return readers so that they have new books to read each night. Further, please send a library bag to school with your children so that they can borrow from the library. kind regards Mr B

The NSW Department of Education has advised the following;
Fruito Break Fruit break. We are trialling a change to our fruit break. At present fruit
break uses a decent chunk of our morning learning time, up to 20 minutes! It was initially supposed to be a 5 min break. From next week a bell will
ring at 8:40 for fruit break. Then again at 8:50 for students to line up ready to learn. This will also assist
students who travel a long way on the bus each morning.
IMPORTANT
If your child does have any flu/cold like symptoms e.g. a sniffily nose, a cough or a temperature,
please keep them at home until the symptoms have gone. Students may return to school as soon as
they have no symptoms, but if they come to school with symptoms they will be isolated and you
will need to collect them. Being tested for Covid 19 is also optional but if you think that they may
have been exposed to to Covid 19 then testing is highly advisable.
Our Fruito time change is working well and will continue
We have had another visit from our STEM Master, Mel! On this visit she took us on a journey 20 000 leagues under the sea, then we examined a number of our planets reefs including The Great Barrier Reef and a reef off the Galapagos Islands. We also investigated the size of the Universe! The Milky Way and other aspects of the big bang theory. This was all possible via 3D vision goggles. We also travelled further along our journey to creating our own 3D 360 degree photographs and videos. I have asked Mel to visit again and help us begin our Lego journeys.
Important Food Notices
1. The student's microwave has malfunctioned. Please do not send food that requires heating. After
a short discussion I have decided to not purchase a replacement as senior students have displayed
irresponsible behaviour when using it.
2. If sending fruit that requires cutting up, to eat, please cut it at home and either wrap in gladwrap
or place in a container.
3. We like to promote healthy eating habits, please include mostly healthy food choices for lunch
and recess.
