Game Talk:
Last Time Out
“We are always looking
to adjust and we are
especially working on the
defensive piece. The guys
are working hard.”
— Head Coach David Brandt
“I fully believe in where the club is going and I’m looking forward to being a part of that. I know it’s been a bit slow going this year, but progress takes time and I think we’re going to get there.”
— Assistant Coach Dan Visser
Game Notes:
Team Rosters:
Pittsburgh: Richmond:
· The Riverhounds (2-9-4) kickoff a three-game homestand looking to rebound against the Richmond Kickers (6-6-5). Thursday will be the final meeting of the regular season between the two clubs. The Kickers prevailed on home turf in the first meeting, using two own goals by the Hounds en route to a 3-1 victory.
· Pittsburgh has struggled to find the net as of late, failing to score in back-to-back matches for the first time since May 17, 2014 – a stretch that saw the Hounds shutout in three-straight dating back to April 26. For the opposition, the Kickers just recently ended a three-match goalless streak of their own with a three-goal outburst against the City Islanders on July 8.

· While the Hounds have struggled to find success on the road, they have found success in the past month at home. Goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas in particular has excelled, fueling point-securing efforts in his last two starts at home including the club’s first clean sheet of the season against Harrisburg on the Fourth of July. In four home starts total, Vargas has given up four goals on 14 shots for a 2-1-1 record.
· Slow starts have plagued the Hounds this season, as they have failed to score in the match’s first 45 and change in nine games. Pittsburgh’s record in those matches? 1-7-1. On the flip side, Pittsburgh has recorded points in all but two of the matches they have managed to score a first half tally good for a 1-2-3 record.
