THUNDER ROLLS IN NATIONAL STAKESThunder Moon may have arrived at the Gr.1 Vincent O’Brien National Stakes as one of the least experienced in the field, but the son of Zoffany, who had taken part in a barrier trial, dispatched his rivals in the manner of a much more experienced colt to triumph in style.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge won his only previous start over yesterday’s course and distance of 7f at the Curragh in early August and was supplemented for yesterday’s Gr.1 contest.

The race lost a little of its lustre when the Gr.2 winner Battleground (War Front) was withdrawn due to a cough, but a quality field of ten remained. dressed up with nowhere to go but, as a gap appeared, Declan McDonogh fired Thunder Moon through it and then wove his way between runners to hit the front. St Mark’s Basilica (Siyouni) challenged hard but the winner had flown and Thunder Moon scored by a length and a half. Wembley (Galileo) took second, a short head in front of St Mark’s Basilica, with Master Of The Seas settling for fourth, a further half a length away.

Bred by the O’Brien family’s Whisperview Trading Ltd, the colt carries the colours of Chantal Conseulo Regalado Gonzalez, having raced for Ann-Marie O’Brien when winning in August. Thunder Moon is a half-brother to the Listed winner Table Rock, who races in Hong Kong as Anticipation, and the multiple winner Jaqen H’Ghar, both by Fastnet Rock, out of the unraced Sadler’s Wells mare Small Sacrifice, from the further family of the great Moyglare Stud family of Trusted Partner (Affirmed).

SHALE TRIUMPHS IN MOYGLARE STUD STAKESShale and Pretty Gorgeous have clashed three time now and the score now stands at two to one in favour of Shale, as the daughter of Galileo triumphed in the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh yesterday.

The pair met for the first time when Shale defeated Pretty Gorgeous (Lawman) in the Gr.3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown in early August, but Pretty Gorgeous turned the tables next time out in the Gr.2 Debutante Stakes.

In yesterday’s 7f contest, Snowfall (Deep Impact) and Mother Earth (Zoffany) disputed the early lead with Pretty Gorgeous behind them on the rail after some early scrimmaging for position. The outsider Star Image (Sea The Stars) tracked the leaders in third, with Shale moving smoothly into contention at the halfway point. Ryan Moore urged her on with two furlongs to go and she swiftly tackled Mother Earth for the lead, with Pretty Gorgeous closing behind her. Entering the final furlong, it looked set for a ding-dong battle to the line, but, although Pretty Gorgeous pushed her rival to the finish, she could never quite get to her and Shale had three quarters of a length in hand at the line. Oodnadatta (Australia) finished third, a length and three quarters behind the runner-up.

Bred by Coolmore and trained by Donnacha O’Brien, the beautifully-bred Shale is a full-sister to the Gr.2-placed juvenile Berkeley Square and the Listed-placed First Of Spring, as well as the winner Celtic High King. They are out of the Gr.1 1,000

SEARCH FOR A SONG REPEATS THE DOSE IN IRISH ST LEGERSearch For A Song ground out a repeat victory in the Gr.1 Irish St Leger at the Curragh yesterday, having looked to be beaten with three furlongs to go.

The four-year-old daughter of Galileo, a homebred for Moyglare Stud Farm, waltzed home last year by two and a quarter lengths, but since then the filly has not enjoyed great luck. Sixth on her seasonal debut in the 1m2½f Gr.2 Mooresbridge Stakes, she was pulled up next time out when reportedly slipping on the bend in the Gr.3 Munster Oaks, but was third last time out in the Gr.1 Tattersalls Gold Cup.

In yesterday’s 1m6f race, she was settled back in the pack as last year’s Gr.1 Irish Derby victor Sovereign (Galileo) set the pace, with Twilight Payment (Teofilo) prominent, along with the Ebor Handicap winner Fujaira Prince (Pivotal). It was the latter who made what looked like a winning move, taking the lead with the three furlongs to go, but Oisin Orr had Search For A Song stoked up and the filly slowly closed on the leader. As Twilight Payment rallied for a renewed challenge on the far side, Search For A Song reached the leader and slowly overhauled him, striding away to win by two lengths from Fujaira Prince, with Twilight Payment a neck away in third.

Dermot Weld’s charge becomes the first consecutive winner of the Irish St Leger since Weld’s Vinnie Roe won his second of four victories in 2002, although Order Of St George won it in 2015 and 2017.

Search For A Song is a full-sister to the Listed winner and Gr.3-placed Falcon Eight, and is a half-sister to the Gr.1 winner and sire Free Eagle (High Chaparral), the multiple Group winner Custom Cut (Notnowcato), the Gr.2 winner Sapphire (Medicean) and the Australian Gr.3 winner Valac (Dark Angel), out of the winning Danehill mare Polished Gem, from the top family of Trusted Partner (Affirmed), also represented earlier on the card by the Gr.1 National Stakes victor Thunder Moon (Zoffany).

CAYENNE ADDS SPICE TO BLANDFORDCayenne Pepper has enjoyed a frustrating run of seconds this season but the three-year-old put that behind her yesterday when charging clear to triumph in the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes, the opening Group race on the second day of Irish Champions Weekend.

SLIPPERS PERFECT FIT IN FLYING FIVEGlass Slippers is clearly a filly who enjoys the autumn sun, as last year’s Gr.1 Prix de l’Abbaye heroine added a second top-level triumph to her tally when taking the Gr.1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh yesterday.

Her fellow British raider Que Amoro (Es Que Love) set the early pace, with Maid In India (Bated Breath) just behind and John Quinn’s two runners Liberty Beach (Cable Bay) and Keep Busy (Night Of Thunder) also close up with the pace. Glass Slippers travelled just in behind and, although she looked a little out-paced in the early stages, she picked up well when asked for her effort by Tom Eaves a couple of furlongs out. Launching her challenge up the rail, she moved into second over a furlong out and tackled Keep Busy inside the final furlong, going on to win by half a length. Sonaiyla (Dark Angel) flashed home for third, half a length behind Keep Busy, with Maid In India the same distance away in fourth.

Bred and owned by Terry Holdcroft’s Bearstone Stud, the four-year-old filly, trained by Kevin Ryan, has now won six of her 15 starts, including the Gr.3 Prix du Petit Couvert on this weekend last year. On her two starts so far this year, she finished fifth to Battaash on her seasonal debut in the Gr.1 King’s Stand Stakes and went on to be runner-up to the same rival in the Gr.2 King George Stakes.

She is a half-sister to the Listed Radley Stakes winner Electric Feel (Firebreak) and the Listed-placed Aunt Nicola (Reel Buddy), out of a winning half-sister to the Listed juvenile winners On The Brink (Mind Games) and Eastern Romance (Oasis

Jessica Harrington’s charge, who runs in the colours of Sarah Kelly, whose husband Jon died in July, also continued a fantastic weekend for her sire Australia, who was responsible for Saturday’s Gr.1 St Leger victor Galileo Chrome.

Having finished runner-up in the Gr.1 Pretty Polly Stakes in June and the Gr.1 Irish Oaks in July, she was also second in the Gr.3 Give Thanks Stakes last month.

Dropped back to 1m2f yesterday, she tracked the front-running Amma Grace (Galileo), who set a decent pace at the head of affairs, with Magic Wand (Galileo) travelling on the rail in third and Cayenne Pepper’s stablemate One Voice (Poet’s Voice) also in close order. With three furlongs to go, Shane Foley asked Cayenne Pepper to go on and she began closing on the leader, while Magic Wand dropped tamely away. The winner hit the front inside the final furlong and powered away to score by four lengths from Amma Grace, with Thunder Nights (Night Of Thunder), staying on for third, a length and a half behind the runner-up.

Bred by GHS Bloodstock and JC Bloodstock, Cayenne Pepper was purchased by Harriet Jellet at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale from the draft of Bumble Mitchell. She is a half-sister to winners by Exceed And Excel and Mawatheeq, out of the juvenile winner Muwakaba (Elusive Quality), who is a half-sister to the Listed-placed Morghim (Machiavellian), out of a Nureyev half-sister to the outstanding Urban Sea (Miswaki).

steady early pace, with Wonderful Tonight (Le Havre) and the Gr.1 Irish Oaks heroine Even So (Camelot) up with the pace, along with Grand Glory (Olympic Glory), while Tarnawa was settled in the pack by Christophe Soumillon. Dame Maillot maintained her advantage into the home straight where the challengers lined up behind her, with Laburnum (Galileo) among those to throw down the gauntlet, but it was Tarnawa who took the eye, flying down the wide outside with Raabihah (Sea The Stars) hard on her heels. Tarnawa was well in command, however, and swept to a three-length victory, with Raabihah taking second, a short head in front of Dame Maillot.

She is out of the dual Listed winner and Gr.3-placed Tarana (Cape Cross), from a typically classy Aga Khan family, including her second dam, the Listed Galtres Stakes winner Tarakala (Dr Fong).

ANTHONY VAN DYCK LANDS PRIX FOY THRILLERAnthony Van Dyck scored his first victory since triumphing in last year’s Gr.1 Derby when claiming the notable scalp of Stradivarius in the Gr.2 Prix Foy.

the opening day of the 2019 Irish Champions Weekend, having broken his maiden at the Curragh two weeks earlier. Fourth in the Gr.2 King Edward VII Stakes on his debut at three, he was sixth in the Gr.1 Derby and went on to win the Gr.3 Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, before finishing third in the Gr.2 Great Voltigeur on his most recent start.

In yesterday’s contest, his Aidan O’Brien stablemate Nobel Prize (Galileo) set off in front, tracked by Hayzum (Anodin) and Serpentine (Galileo), the latter also running for O’Brien. Mogul was content to track the moderate early pace in mid-division under Pierre-Charles Boudot as Port Guillaume (Le Havre) moved up to join the front runners. Nobel Prize maintained his advantage into the home straight, where Serpentine launched his challenge on the wide outside as Mogul slipped through on the rail. Switched out, Mogul showed a devastating burst of speed to sweep to the front and charge clear to triumph by two and a half lengths from In Swoop (Adlerflug), who also showed a powerful finishing kick. Gold Trip (Outstrip) was a short head away in third, while Serpentine finished fourth.

Bred by Newsells Park Stud, Mogul is a full-brother to the dual Gr.1 winner Japan, the Gr.2 Middleton Stakes heroine Secret Gesture and the Gr.3 winner Sir Isaac Newton, as well as being a half-brother to the Gr.3-placed Maurus (Medicean). The latest member of the clan, a yearling full-sister to Mogul, will be offered by Newsells Park Stud as Lot 436 during Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.

TARNAWA POWER-PACKED IN PRIX VERMEILLETarnawa put up a power-packed performance to triumph in the Gr.1 Prix Vermeille, coming with a sweeping run in the home straight to land the odds at Longchamp, giving her trainer Dermot Weld a memorable cross-card Gr.1 double.

The Aga Khan’s homebred daughter of Shamardal earned her first black type at two when Listed-placed and went on to win a pair of Gr.3s last year at three, before triumphing in the Gr.2 Blandford Stakes on this weekend last year. On her sole run to date this year, she defeated yesterday’s Blandford Stakes winner Cayenne Pepper to win the Gr.3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork.

du Cercle at Deauville and was runner-up last time out in the Gr.3 Prix du Meautry.

She was bounced out of the stalls by Ronan Thomas in yesterday’s race and went straight to the head of affairs, with Blueberry (So You Think) in hot pursuit and Lady In France (Showcasing) also close up. The latter moved into a shared lead at the halfway point but it was the Gr.3 Prix Texanita winner Wooded (Wootton Bassett) who threw down the biggest challenge, making his move with 300m to go. Air De Valse dug deep and was able to extend again, hitting the line three quarters of a length ahead of Wooded, with Lady In France the same distance away in third.

Air De Valse is the first winner out of Air Bag (Poliglote), who won the Listed Prix Ceres and is a half-sister to the Listed-placed multiple winners Anarchiste (Northern Park) and Avranches (Jeune Homme). She also becomes the first Group winner sired by the late Mesnil Des Aigles (Neverneyev), a half-brother to the top-class Cirrus Des Aigles (Even Top).

EARTHLIGHT SHINES IN PRIX DU PINEarthlight may have lost his unbeaten record when fourth in the Gr.1 Prix Maurice de Gheest last time out, but the son of Shamardal bounced back to winning ways in style at Longchamp yesterday, triumphing in the Gr.3 Prix d Pin over 1400m.

Manjeer (Footstepsinthesand) and Reshabar (Iffraaj) vied for the lead early on, with Mickael Barzalona settling Earthlight on the outside in fifth place. The leaders set a smart pace at the head of affairs, but Earthlight was always traveling well and, once in the home straight, Barzalona set the three-year-old down for his run. Spinning Memories (Arcano) went for home, taking the lead inside the final 300m, but Tropbeau (Showcasing) and Earthlight had her every move covered and swept to the front inside the final 200m, the latter going on to win by three quarters of a length. Tropbeau took second, a short head in front of Manjeer, with Spinning Memories the same distance away in fourth.

Godolphin’s homebred colt was unbeaten in five starts at two, culminating in the Gr.1 Prix Morny and the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes. He is the first foal out of the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile third Winters Moon (New Approach), a half-sister to the Gr.1 juvenile winner Mandaean (Manduro) and the Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Wavering (Refuse To Bend), out of the Gr.3 Prix des Reservoirs winner and Gr.1-placed Summertime Legacy (Darshaan).

BARNEY ROY TAKES FOURTH TOP-LEVEL TRIUMPHA year after landing the Gr.1 Grosser Preis von Baden in magnificent style at Baden-Baden with Ghiayyath, the Godolphin team lifted the trophy once more as Barney Roy put up a fine display to triumph for the fourth time at the highest level.

Successful in the Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes at three, Barney Roy (Excelebration) has gradually increased his competitive distance since returning to training last year after his failed stud career. Successful in the 1800m Gr.1 Jebel Hatta at Meydan in March, he stepped up to 2000m to land the Gr.1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich in July and yesterday marked only his second attempt at the 2400m trip, having finished fourth in the Gr.1 Preis von Europa last month.

The son of Galileo had defeated the great stayer once before when finishing a place ahead of him when second in the Gr.1 Coronation Cup. In yesterday’s 2400m race, Anthony Van Dyck set out to make all and dictated a steady pace, with Stradivarius (Sea The Stars) shadowing his every move. The older horse moved alongside Anthony Van Dyck on the turn of home and briefly looked to have his measure, but Anthony Van Dyck fought back to land a thrilling victory by a short neck. The fast-finishing Nagnao Gold (Sixties Icon), took third, a length and a quarter behind Stradivarius.

Anthony Van Dyck has been kept busy since his Classic victory, running a further five times last year in Britain, Ireland the US and Hong Kong. He returned to action this year when runner-up to Ghaiyyath in the Coronation Cup and was fifth last time out in the Gr.2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Bred by Orpendale, Chelston & Wynatt, he is out of the Gr.3-winnning Exceed And Excel mare Believe’N’Success and is a half-brother to Bounding (Lonhro), a Gr.1 winner in New Zealand.

AIR DE VALSE TRIUMPHS IN PETIT COUVERTArc Trials Day got off to an explosive start at Longchamp when Air De Valse made virtually all to land the 1000m Gr.3 Prix du Petit Couvert.

Maya (Campanologist) set the pace, tracked by La La Land (Outstrip), with Song Of Life (Poet’s Voice) in third. Schwesterherz made her move as the field moved over to the stands-side rail in the home straight and held on to score by a head from the battling Song Of Life. Marly (Siyouni) finished a head away in third.

Bred and owned by Eckhard Sauren, the filly failed to find a buyer when offered at the BBAG October Mixed Sale two years ago. She is a half-sister to the Champion Juvenile Noble Moon (Sea The Moon), as well as the Gr.2-placed Noble Alpha (Shamardal), out of the Gr.3 (then) Premio Dormello winner Nouvelle Noblesse (Singspiel).

ITALY

FIRST STAKES WINNER FOR PIERDOMENICO WITH SUICIDE SQUAD Suicide Squad (Coulsty) gave his trainer Danilo Pierdomenico a first Stakes winner in the Listed Premio Repubbliche Marinare over 1500m at Capannelle yesterday.

The filly, who was patiently ridden by Salvatore Basile, switched to the outside entering the final furlong and showed a turn of foot to beat Niram (Night Of Thunder) and Alma Hera (Dragon Pulse), scoring by a length and a quarter.

Suicide Squad opened her account at Florence in July and easily won a couple of conditions races in August at Naples. She failed to reach her reserve price of £2,000 at the Goffs UK Silver

Kaspar (Pivotal) was the first to show in yesterday’s race and was soon joined by Communique (Casamento), who went on to dictate a steady pace. Barney Roy settled in fifth, tracking Satomi (Teofilo), racing in company with Quest The Moon (Sea The Moon). There was little change in the order as Communique gradually wound up the tempo and Barney Roy crept closer, moving into fourth on the turn out of the back straight. As the field tracked over to the stands side rail in the home straight, Barney Roy hit the front with 200m to go and went on to score by a length and a quarter from Communique. Torquator Tasso (Adlerflug) fared best of the home team, finishing a neck away in third.

Purchased as a foal from Tattersalls and as a yearling from Goffs UK by Peter and Ross Doyle, Barney Roy was bred by Eliza Park International out of the Galileo mare Alina, who is out of a Gr.3-winning half-sister to the dam of the Gr.1-winning sprinter Gordon Lord Byron.

FIRST BLACK-TYPE WIN FOR SCHWESTERHERZThe Henk Grewe-trained Schwesterherz landed her first black-type victory when holding on in a close finish to the Listed Stadt Baden-Baden Cup at Baden-Baden yesterday.

The daughter of Areion has been highly-tried, racing in Group or Listed company for each of her four starts this year, and looked to relish the drop back in trip to 1400m yesterday, having last been seen finishing sixth over 2000m.

Out of the dual US Listed-placed Chatham (Maria’s Mon), she is a full-sister to the European Champion Two-Year-Old and first season sire Air Force Blue, winner of the Gr.1 National Stakes, Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes and Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes.

The third filly to reach seven figures was Lot 67, a daughter of Quality Road who was bought by Donato Lanni for an even $1,000,000. Consigned by Gainesway, she is a half-sister to Karl Burke’s Listed Montrose Stakes-placed Mistress Of Love (Scat Daddy). They are out of the Ghostzapper mare Beloveda, who was placed in Poland and is a half-sister to the Gr.3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes winner Golden Mystery (Awesome Again).

Rounding out the millionaires at halfway was Lot 121, a son of Into Mischief, who was bought by Oxo Equine for $1,000,000. Another from Gainesway, he is a half-brother to the Gr.3 Beaumont Stakes and Gr.3 Monmouth Oaks-placed Sine Wave (Big Brown), out of the Gr.2 Vagrancy Handicap runner-up Curlina (Cuvee). This is the family of the Listed Cheshire Oaks winner Menhoubah (Dixieland Band), who was third in both the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and the Gr.1 (then) Oaks d’Italia for Clive Brittain.

Yearling Sale. She is the first foal and winner out of Strike A Light (Dutch Art), a triple winner over seven furlongs at Yarmouth. The second dam Bridal Path (Groom Dancer) is a half-sister to five Stakes winners.

Strike A Light has a yearling colt by Vadamos catalogued as Lot 819 at the Goffs Sportsman’s Sale. Franco Raimondi

The once-raced Thunder Moon (Zoffany), who only broke his maiden over course and distance last month, put in a hugely impressive performance against a top-class field. His Highness The Aka Khan’s homebred Tarnawa scored for the fourth time in her last five starts, making impressive progress on the outside despite the slow early pace to lead entering the final 50m. Successful in last year’s Gr.2 Blandford Stakes and the latest two editions of the Gr.3 Give Thanks Stakes, the chesnut is one of 77 Graded/Group winners by the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains, Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club and Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes hero and European Champion Juvenile Shamardal and thus became the 26th to triumph at the highest level. The son of Giant’s Causeway sadly died in April.

Tarnawa is the first foal of the Listed Oyster Stakes and Listed Martin Molony Stakes victrix Tarana, who foaled a filly by Siyouni on 19th February. By Cape Cross, Tarnawa is out of the Listed Galtres Stakes winner Tarakala. By Dr Fong, Tarakala is a daughter of Shahrastani’s Listed Oyster Stakes runner-up Tarakana, whose dam Tarafa is a winning half-sister to Kalamoun’s Gr.3 Prix Messidor scorer Tassmoun and Listed victrix Talaja, Shergar’s Gr.3 Princess Royal Stakes winner Tashtiya, Shardari’s Gr.3 Premio Carlo Porta victor Tashkourgan and a Listed winner by Mouktar in Tarikhana, the latter dam of Lear Fan’s Gr.1 Prix Royal-Oak laureate Tiraaz. Another half-sister, Tadkiyra bore the Irish Champion Juvenile Filly Damson to Entrepreneur and is the third dam of Saturday’s Gr.2 ace Cadillac, he by Shamardal’s son Lope De Vega. Mogul assumed command entering the final 300m and powered home to add to his victories in last year’s Gr.2 Golden Fleece Stakes and July’s Gr.3 Gordon Stakes. The bay is one of 218 Graded/Group winners from the 2,745 foals aged three and over by Coolmore’s European Horse Of The Year Galileo and the 87th to triumph at the highest level. Moreover, Galileo’s juveniles feature yesterday’s Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes heroine Shale.

A full-brother to Japan, who won this event last year before adding the Gr.1 Juddmonte International, the Gr.2 Middleton Stakes victrix and Gr.1 Oaks and Gr.1 Preis der Diana runner-up Secret Gesture and the Gr.3 International Stakes victor Sir Isaac Newton, Mogul is the tenth foal of the Listed Pontefract Castle Stakes runner-up Shastye, who also produced a Listed winner to Medicean in Maurus. By Danehill, Shastye is out of Sagace’s Gr.2 Prix de Royallieu victrix Saganeca, who bore the Gr.1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe ace Sagamix and Gr.2 Prix de Malleret winner Sage Et Jolie to Linamix, the Gr.1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud hero Sagacity to Highest Honor and the Gr.3 Chester Vase second Almighty to Galileo’s sire Sadler’s Wells. In turn Sage Et Jolie is the dam of Garryrichard Stud’s Gr.1 Prix d’Ispahan king Sageburg, while her full-sister Sagalina produced Shamardal’s Gr.1 Prix Saint-Alary queen Sagawara.

Mogul’s yearling full-sister is Lot 436 in Tattersalls’ October Sale. ALASTAIR NICOLSON

Earthlight enjoyed the perfect preparation for next month’s Prix de la Foret, making smooth headway on the outside to lead close home under a confident Mickael Barzalona. Rated behind only his paternal half-brother Pinatubo of all Europe’s juveniles after his victories in last year’s Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes and Gr.1 Prix Morny, the copper chesnut thus completed a fine double for his sire Shamardal following Tarnawa’s success in the Gr.1 Prix Vermeille.

Earthlight is the first foal of the Gr.1 Fillies’ Mile third Winters Moon, who foaled a filly by Dubawi on 28th April and whose yearling is a full-sister to him. Anthony Van Dyck set a steady pace under Mickael Barzalona and refused to yield to the persistent attentions of Stradivarius up the home straight, thus gaining his first victory since last year’s Gr.1 Derby. The bay thus completed a fine Longchamp double for Galileo, whose son Mogul took the Gr.1 Grand Prix de Paris just over an hour earlier, while at the Curragh, Shale and Search For A Song won the Gr.1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and Gr.1 Irish St Leger respectively.

Anthony Van Dyck is the fourth foal of the Gr.3 MRC Blue Diamond Prelude (fillies) victrix Believe’N’Suceed, who bore the Gr.1 ARC Railway Stakes heroine and New Zealand Champion Sprinter Bounding to Lonhro. A full-sister to Compas Stallions’ Gr.2 MVRC Ian McEwan Stakes victor Kuroshio and the Listed SAJC Redelva Stakes scorer Agulhas, Believe’N’Succeed is by Exceed And Excel out of a daughter of Storm Cat’s Gr.1 Alabama Stakes and Gr.1 Test Stakes queen November Snow, she also the grandam of Tiznow’s Gr.1 Carter Handicap ace Morning Line.

Barney Roy gradually overhauled the pace-setting Communique to assert in the final 100m and add to his victories in March’s Gr.1 Jebel Hatta and July’s Gr.1 Bayerisches Zuchtrennen. Successful in the Gr.1 St James’s Palace Stakes and runner-up in the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas and Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes as a three-year-old, Barney Roy returned to training last year having proved infertile at stud. The light bay hails from the first crop of the Gr.1 Prix du Moulin, Gr.1 Prix Jacques Le Marois and Gr.1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes hero Excelebration, who has also sired June’s Gr.2 Greenlands Stakes victor Speak In Colours and July’s Gr.3 Premio Tudini scorer The Conqueror.

Barney Roy is the first foal of Alina, whose second, the Dark Angel filly Wisdom Mind, finished runner-up in last year’s Listed Maggie Dickson Stakes.
