OriginTuluva Vellalar is a community of Vellalars who had immigrated from Tulunad, a part of the modern district ofSouth Canara, as warriors of King Veera Ballala III.
Thondaimandalam and Thuluvars migrationA Chola king named Athondai Chakravarthy had brought down the Thuluva Vellalars to the present dayThondaimandalam of Tamil Nadu. Athondai Chakravarthy had established his rule over Northern Tamil Nadu afterwinning the battle over the Kurumbar.[1] This is the reason that part of North Tamil Nadu was named asThondaimandalam, named after this victorious king. It has also been noted that Athondai Chakravarthy had broughtVellalars from Srisailam to settle down at Thondaimandalam.
