Supporting our JourneyAs we reflect on the past year, the Genacross Lutheran Services Foundation is proud to share the stories and statistics that represent what can be accomplished through our work together. In addition to managing and disbursing donor gifts and overseeing a sound investment strategy and portfolio, the Foundation’s mission is to enrich the lives of those who are supported along life’s journey.

In 2017, donor defined distributions from seven endowments enabled the Foundation to distribute nearly $135,000 to support the organization, the staff, and those we serve.

Among those in receipt of the endowment funds were four graduating seniors; one from each of four high schools within the communities served by Genacross Lutheran Services. The donor who funded this endowment wanted to annually provide a small stipend to seniors who plan to pursue degrees in social, pastoral or health care related services. They each received a $2,000 award.

In addition, with funds from the Staff Benevolence Endowment, the Foundation assisted two Genacross Lutheran Services staff members through a $1,000 grant to each. Assistance from the endowment helps to provide immediate financial relief to Genacross Lutheran Services staff members who experience a catastrophic event in their lives such as a death of a family member, destruction of their home as a result of fire or flood, or the necessity of non-insured medical care for an immediate family member.

These are a few examples of what can be accomplished through the generosity of you and other donors. As a result of donor gifts and market growth, the 2017 value of the consolidated Foundation Endowment grew by nearly $3 million dollars to $18.1 million. This growth helps to provide the necessary resources to assist in funding existing programs, as well as with the development of new services and programs.

We are excited about 2018 and the many possibilities that lay before us to invest in the organizational mission, in the individuals served, as well as in those who serve.

Individually sponsored EndowmentFunds Available for Distribution

Some Genacross Lutheran Services donors have funded endowments in their name or in the name of someone for whom they would like a particular program or service to be funded. These endowments provide financial resources for both current and future program needs as designated by the endowment sponsor(s).

In 2017, the Foundation was pleased to make available the following distributions for the benefit of Genacross Lutheran Services ministries:

$13,762 from The Celia and Jim Findlay Endowment Fund Earnings are used for Genacross Family & Youth residents’ tutoring needs.

$5,754 from The Youth Assistance Endowment Fund (anonymous sponsors) Proceeds are used for the needs of Family & Youth residents who will “age out” of the Family & Youth program funding, but will remain with Family & Youth for housing and related services.

$2,549 from The Staff Benevolence Endowment Fund Sponsored by David and Pamela Roberts, the proceeds are directed to be used by Genacross employees who have suffered financial hardship as a result of catastrophic loss.

$8,000 from The Lawrence and Adele Youngbauer Endowment This endowment was established to fund four annual scholarships to high school seniors pursuing careers in social service, health care or other service occupations. The scholarship amounts are determined annually based on the endowment value.

$39,573 from The Bunge Youth Scholarship Endowment Fund This endowment was established to assist youth with educational needs and expenses.

$65,197 from The R.A. & F.D. Stranahan Endowment Fund This endowment was established to fund the capital needs of Family & Youth or, if not needed by Family & Youth, the capital needs of other ministries.
