Many students end up paying hefty commissions to the brokers for accommodation and still don’t get a satisfactory place to live in. HT City decodes Paying Guest (PG) accommodations for you. Read on and find out more about staying in a PG. NORTH CAMPUS Dominated by student population, it isn’t difficult to find an ideal accommodation around DU North Campus, where every third house has been converted into a PG. Majority of these are for girls. Hudson line, Jawahar Nagar and Kamla Nagar are the most preferred locations in North Campus. The rate list of Jawahar Nagar PGs heads from `10,000 and goes up to `15,000 including food (breakfast and dinner), electricity, Wifi, CCTV Cameras and monthly rent. Hudson line is bit cheaper. The range is around `8500 and is inclusive of basic facilities there. “This area is safe, and is easily accessible to the metro station, bus stops and market. From multiple food cuisines to stationary, to affordable parlours that run special offers for students, one can easily get all stuff here,” says Neha Mangla, DU student who stays in Hudson lane. While Kamla Nagar is the most happening location in the area, residency comes at a price. Prices for PGs start from `12,000 here and go on to `20,000 and above. However, some PGs have restricted timings. As a plus point, the market complex has both flea market and branded stores for students. SOUTH CAMPUS Students who secure admission in South Campus colleges have a relatively harder time. You may need to be quick on your feet to book a PG. For instance, owners in Satya Niketan, say they start getting requests for accommodation right from the declaration of the first cut-off. Male students have limited options in South Campus, leaving rental flats as an alternative. They share flats in areas like Munirka, Safdarjung Enclave and Vasant Vihar apartments where the rents start at `20,000 per month. “I have been living here for the past two years. As the rent is a bit high, the flat is shared between the four of us. The place is safer than a PG. There is no interference from the owner’s side,” says Himanshu Sharma who stays with his friends in Vasant Vihar apartments. n [email protected] O4 ht city MY CITY ADVENTURE EVENTS CAMPUS CULTURE HINDUSTAN TIMES, NEW DELHI TUESDAY, JUNE 21, 2016 ME AND MY CITY A quick snack A bhutta selller at Hauz Khas makes some good business as people flock to him in the evening PHOTO: AMAL KS/HT THROUGH THE LENS DIL SE Hi Raj, Mujhe nhi pta apne us din jo msg bheja tha wo pda ya nhi, bt meri apse bs ek hi rqst h pls aap ek baar mujhe mauka to do apni baat khne ka.
