PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As People of God, we are the Catholic Christian Family of St. Cecilia who strive to continue the mission of Jesus—to serve others with care and compassion. As a loving community, we are called: To grow spiritually in worshipping God through prayer and sacraments. To study God’s revelation in scripture and tradition. To celebrate God’s love by our words and our actions as we attempt to become more Christlike in our journey of faith. We rely on God’s grace, Christ’s love, and the gift of the Holy Spirit to accomplish this mission.

ANNUAL CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL The programs, services and ministries supported by the Annual Catholic Services Appeal meet the larger diocesan needs of Catholics and others in the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. The theme this year for the Annual Catholic Services Appeal is “Gift of Faith.” A letter was sent to each Catholic household in the diocese asking for their support. The diocese serves each of us, and our financial support is needed to continue God’s work in the diocese. Our Goal is $66,560.00 To date $3,050.00 pledged/collected.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY We are called—along with Catholics in every parish, chapel and church throughout the world—to fulfill the call we first heard at Baptism, the call to be missionaries, to share our faith. On World Mission Sunday, we are called in a special way to be “missionaries of faith” through prayer and participation in the Eucharist, and by giving generously to the collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Let us pray for all who long to hear the hope-filled, saving message of Jesus, and for the priests, religious and lay cate-chists in mission countries worldwide who offer them that “Good News.”

NATIONAL SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS Honor Thyself, Presenter: Fr. Harry Byrne, OP Tuesday, October 30, 11:30 am to 1 pm It’s easy to feel out of touch, unneeded and unappreciated. WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to serve and give his life for us and we are called to be followers of Him. Do we live our lives to serve others or wanting others to serve us? How does this attitude show itself in our lives and marriage relationship? Do our words and actions reflect the fact that we are followers of our Lord Jesus Christ? Allow God to strengthen, renew and rekindle your marriage sacrament so that it can flourish and reflect his love. The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend in this area is on November 30 to December 1. To register or for more information call 314-469-7317 or go online to www.stl-wwme.org.

HUMOR FOR THE WEEK The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the desert. After they got their tent all set up, both men fell sound asleep. Some hours later, Tonto wakes the Lone Ranger and says, ’Kemo Sabe, look towards sky, what you see?’ ‘The Lone Range replies, ’I see millions of stars.’ ‘What that tell you?’ asked Tonto. The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, ’Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of gal-axies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Saturn is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approxi-mately a quarter past three in the morning. Theologically, the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Mete-orologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell you, Tonto?’ ‘You dumber than buffalo. It means someone stole the tent.’ Thanks, Jan Klie, for sending this in.

ST. JOHN NEUMANN SCHOOL NEWS We would appreciate very much if all families would help us save Sunny D labels and box tops and labels. You can drop them off at the school or you can put them in a marked drawer in the vestibule under the coat rack. The SJN Annual Auction date is February 9, 2013. We’d love to see many of you non-SJN families come share the fun of this gala affair with us. Please put it on your 2013 calendar. We have a 2nd grade student at SJN, McKenna Wright, who was recently diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. McKenna’s Dream Team is hosting a fundraiser at Los Tres Amigos in Ed-wardsville on November 14. This is an ALL DAY event—10% of the entire days sales go directly to the Cystic Fibrosis Foun-dation. So, come join others for some great food and drinks and know that you’ll be helping to find a cure for CF. Kellsie’s Hope Foundation wants to extend a BIG Thank You for helping spread awareness of Childhood Cancer and for rais-ing money for childhood cancer research. St. John Neumann, along with St. Peter & Paul schools raised over $4,500 in the Sock It to Cancer Campaign. SJN also raised an additional $208 by celebrating Kellsie’s Hope Day. The faculty and fami-lies of SJN hold a very special place in the Marchbanks Fam-ily’s heart and we, along with Kellsie’s Hope Foundation will be forever grateful for your generosity. Thank you, Gail Marchbanks, Director, Kellsie’s Hope Foundation. Please buy SCRIP. This is a great way to help the school.
