Connotation

The Male characterWithin the film poster there are 3 main characters that are the 2 females at the front and the male standing at the back. The poster makes it very evident that the male carries much more authority than the two females due to him being the biggest character in the poster the characters. When the viewer looks at the poster the first thing they most likely will notice is the male character. Because he takes up majority of the space and he overshadows the rest the 2 females in the poster. This is very stereotypical within thriller films because the male characters always carry that higher status and are always the most important characters due to them being male and strong. The male is wearing all black which symbolises death and darkness. This lets the audience know that he is a character who is not to be particular messed with and also a character who portrays himself as having no fears. The females.Within the poster there are two females standing and armed with guns besides each other r. This is very non stereotypical for a thriller poster because we instantly associate females as taking on the weaker roles however they change that stereotype. From just looking at the poster we know that these girls are dangerous and play a big part of the films storyline. The female on the left wears all black which connotes danger and strength. This lets us an audience know that she is character a that should be feared and is not a stereotypical woman. One thriller stereotype trait is usually when women are in a situation with guns they instantly back down and need the hero which is always the male to come an save them from what they call danger. However the females in this poster bravely hold the gun and seem unafraid for a fight. The womans face on the left illustrates to us that she is always ready for a fight and will not let anyone win apart from her. Both females sort of tell us that one if them or even both they may have some sort of romantic fling or relationship with the main male standing in the poster. The female on the right is wearing a brown jacket and black bottoms which also illustrates to us she is dangerous and armed with weapons. The females body structure is turned to the side so this lets us know that she encounters with a lot of enemys and attackers all the time due to her looking as if she is about to attack someone. Her facial expression looks very innocent and stereotypically you would associate a face like hers as being the damsel in distress . However this defiantly breaks the stereotype because she takes on a role of violence and authority so we instantly think differently about her due to her body structure, her clothes and her armed weapons. The location-The location in the poster is very big however it is mixed with two locations. One of them is London which includes the famous landmark the big ben and the other is Australia. This lets the audience know that they may be conflict within the two countries. This also lets the audience know that theres going to be lots of action in the movie because stereotypically within a thriller movie no matter the sub-genre it is in when it involves a big city or location theres always some sort of physical action. The location builds a lot of tension and makes the audience interested even before watvhing the film because it makes us question why there is two locations clashed together and what is going to happen to the characters. Also in the poster there is some sort of robots so this lets us an audience question whether they will be an invasion of some sort. The location within the film fits perfectly for some sort if invasion to occur because stereotypical within a thriller film that includes invasions the location us always big so this lets us as an audience guess the storyline. The fontsThe fonts in the poster are silver and steel with very bold, edgy writing. This links with sharpness and suspense. We usually connate the colour silver with being sharp and mysterious so this lets us know as audience a mystery is bound to occur. This also links with the robots in the poster due to them being silver. This lets the audience know that the colour of the font and the robots have major links to each other. This lets us know again as audience that the robots may the mysterious and the characters may bring that sharpness to the action. The slogan if the film is is it real is it recall this suggests to us that the robots take a big part in part of the slogan because stereotypical we think robots are not rule and they cant harm anyone however the robots may be proven wrong. The robots may be the reason to the slogan when it says is it real. This lets us as audience know that something must have happened before due to recall in the slogan. This keeps us an audience excited and questioning what happened before and what will happen.
