In their book, Beyond the Ordinary, Cynthia Woolver and Deborah Bruce examined sixteen factors that contribute to strong and healthy congregations. However, only three factors contribute to numerical growth. While numerical growth is not the end all measurement for healthy congregations it is vital for sustainability. One of the three positive predictors of numerical growth is “participating in the congregation.” Madison Park Church of God seeks to excel in empowering people for Kingdom service. Eighteen years ago when I moved to Anderson, Indiana to begin my assignment as the Dean of Anderson University School of Theology I knew I would be looking for a church home. The previous twenty years I served as a pastor in the Church of God. A friend reminded me that with my move I now needed to find a church home where my soul could be nurtured and where I had opportunity to be involved in service. He was right on target. On our first Sunday in Anderson we chose to attend North Anderson Church of God (Madison Park) and have made this fellowship our church home. I have found this congregation to be a place where a person can grow spiritually and serve faithfully. The opportunities for spiritual growth are many and the occasions for service are numerous. For the past eight years I have been honored to serve on the Board of Elders. These have been eight years of amazing opportunity. We have relocated to a place that offers great Good News from the Elders by David Sebastian, Chair, Board of Elders biweekly weavings of the community at Madison Park Church of God—April 9, 2014 continued on page 4 April–June Beneficiary: India Make a purchase at Holy Grounds and a portion of the proceeds will benefit MPC’s ongoing ministry in India. Come early or linger after the Sunday worship services to enjoy conversation and refreshments. Visit MadisonParkChurch.org to view the full menu. Sundays, 8:30am-11:30am MasterCard, Visa and Discover accepted. Worship Services SUNDAY 9:00am - A blend of traditional and contemporary music, prayer, and teaching from God’s Word. 10:45am - Features a praise band with distinctively modern edge and teaching from God’s Word. Classes are offered for all ages at 9:00am and 10:45am. Visit Grand Central, formerly the Information Center, for a complete listing of all electives or visit MadisonParkChurch. org, Ministries page. MPC is reaching out into the fast-pace of McGunegill Late Models, Nash Fm Thunder Cars and Front Wheel Drive Ovals, to host the Easter Midway, with a special invitation to Easter services at Madison Park. On Saturday, April 19, Madison Park Church partners Anderson Speedway to provide an Easter Mid-way extravaganza. The mid-way will open at 4:00pm with fun activities for kids: face painting, Easter crafts and a paper egg decorating contest, photos with the Easter Bunny, ending with an Easter Egg hunt at 6:30pm. Amy Greenway, Marketing Specialist at the Speedway, expresses “We are so fortunate to have people from Madison Park help with this event. Anderson Speedway is passionate about providing a fun, family friendly atmosphere.” The Speedway now offers a family section with no alcohol or smoking. Amy shares, “The whole entire straight away is designated as the family section with plenty of area to spread out, sit and enjoy the race.” As MPC exists to expand the Kingdom of God, we also work to be a church without walls; a congregation engaged in our community for the cause of Jesus.
