Richard Marotta, Ph. D., Headmaster Volume 94 Number: XI "Cultivating Success in Every Child" Friday, November 23, 2016 Thoughts for the Week By Richard Marotta, Ph.D., Headmaster As we get ready for the Thanksgiving break, I began thinking about all that I am thankful for in my life. As a Head of School, I am very thankful for having the privilege of leading Garden for more than twenty-five years. I am thankful for all of the wonderful families, parents and children, whom I have known and who have enriched my life in so many ways. I am grateful for being able to work with teachers and administrators who have devoted their lives to working with children. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with trustees, volunteers, who give so much of their time to our school. And, I am grateful to our alumni for their appreciation and the support they have given over the years through the Annual Fund, coming to our Gala, or just stopping by the school on days like today when families gather. Garden's family gathers also! Reflecting on this has brought me to a wonderful moment of recognition that being here in a school filled with wonderful, students, parents and teachers has brought me such joy and fulfillment that I wish that everyone can come to work, knowing that something wonderful will happen. A student will grasp an idea or solve a problem; a teacher will have a moment of success with a class; members of the community will reach out and help others. I experience all of this and more on a daily basis which makes me thankful that I am here, at Garden School, not doing a job, but living a vocation. Happy Thanksgiving, Richard Marotta, Ph.D. Headmaster

Thoughts for the Week By Richard Marotta, Ph.D., Headmaster

As we get ready for the Thanksgiving break, I began thinking about all that I am

thankful for in my life.

As a Head of School, I am very thankful for having the privilege of leading Garden

for more than twenty-five years. I am thankful for all of the wonderful families,

parents and children, whom I have known and who have enriched my life in so

many ways. I am grateful for being able to work with teachers and

administrators who have devoted their lives to working with children. I am

grateful for the opportunity to work with trustees, volunteers, who give so much

of their time to our school. And, I am grateful to our alumni for their

appreciation and the support they have given over the years through the Annual

Fund, coming to our Gala, or just stopping by the school on days like today when families gather. Garden's

family gathers also!

Reflecting on this has brought me to a wonderful

moment of recognition that being here in a school filled

with wonderful, students, parents and teachers has

brought me such joy and fulfillment that I wish that

everyone can come to work, knowing that something

wonderful will happen. A student will grasp an idea or

solve a problem; a teacher will have a moment of

success with a class; members of the community will

reach out and help others.

I experience all of this and more on a daily basis which makes me thankful that I am here, at Garden School,

not doing a job, but living a vocation.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Richard Marotta, Ph.D.

Headmaster
