[C] Yellow bird, up [G7] high in banana [C] tree.Yellow bird, you [G7] sit all alone like [C] me.
[F] Did your lady friend [C] leave the nest again?[G7] That is very sad, [C] makes me feel so [C7] bad.[F] You can y away,[C] in the sky away.[G7] You're more lucky than [C] me.
[C] I also had a [F] pretty girl, (handsome friend)
[G7] She's not with me to-[C]-day.They're all the same the [F] pretty girls.[G7] They tend the nest, then they y a-[C]-way.
[C] Yellow bird, up [G7] high in banana [C] tree.Yellow bird, you [G7] sit all alone like [C] me.
[F] Better y away, [C] In the sky away,[G7] Picker coming soon, [C] Pick from night to [C7] noon.[F] Black and yellow you, [C] Like banana too[G7] They may pick you some [C] day.
[C] Wish that I were a [F] yellow bird, [G7] I'd y away with [C] you.[C] But I am not a [F] yellow bird, [G7] so here I sit.Nothing else to [C] do.

Even though the sleeve of his second album Jackrabbit Slim (1979) stated that "Romeo's Tune" is "dedicated to the memory of Florence Ballard," the song is not really about the Supremes singer who died in 1976. The song was actually written about a girl from Forbert's home town of Meridian, Mississippi, but was dedicated to Ballard because, as Forbert explained, "that seemed like such bad news to me and such sad news. She wasn't really taken care of by the music business, which is not a new story." The signature piano part on "Romeo's Tune" was played by former Elvis Presley pianist Bobby Ogdin. - Wikipedia
