CANTERBURY WINS GOLD South Island Quadrangular - Dunedin, June 2019

Last weekend Canterbury fielded both strong men’s and women’s teams consisting of 2 masters, 3 seniors and 3 juniors.

Masters: Scott Gardiner (BS), Jason Oxenham (MP), Karen Walton (CC) and Judy Smith (BS)

Seniors: Jonathon Honeyman (SW), Nick Burns (WA), Paul Moran (MS), Grace Hymers (CC), Kate Fox (BS) and Ella Knutson (CF)

Juniors: Henry Moran (MS), Nathan Briggs (BS), Ryan Ko )(BS), Petra Curd-McCullough (CF), Caitlin Millard (CF) and Moriya Karati (HH.

First round Canterbury played Midlands. The juniors were extremely strong and won 5/1 as were the Masters winning 3/1. Senior woman Kate Fox had an exemplary game against A2 player Steph Chambers winning 3/1 resulting in winning the tie 10/6.

Second round Canterbury played Otago, again the Masters and juniors proved too strong winning 2/2 and 5 /1. In the seniors, Jonny had a close 4 setter with Matt Ditchburn taking the seniors to a 3/3 draw but winning overall 10/6.

By the third round Canterbury had claimed a few injuries but with such Canterbury perseverance and team spirit both Karen and Jason pushed through claiming a win against Southland 10/6.

Overall, Canterbury came 1st in both the Masters and juniors and 3rd in the seniors, taking home the trophy for the second year in a row.

‘Well done to all the players, your squash was incredible and your team spirit was something special which makes me proud to be a Cantabrian’ – Bronwyn Knutson, Manager’ Congratulations to all the players on your performances and for bringing the trophy back to Canterbury. What an awesome result!! And

thank you very much to Bronwyn Knutson, for giving up her time and effort to manage the Canterbury Team. We really appreciate it.

JUNIORS

2019 Canterbury Junior Age

Groups Greymouth, 8th & 9th June 2019 Greymouth attracted credible entries for the 2019 Canterbury Junior Age Groups Tournament, no doubt helped by their excellent track record of event organisation and hospitality. Of 33 players, 10 were West Coast origin, 3 from Marlborough and the balance from Christchurch. There was a notable turnout of six CBHS boys. Squash Canterbury would like to say a massive thank you to Brendan Giles, the Tournament Director and the Greymouth Squash Club and committee members for doing an amazing job in hosting the tournament. We would also like to thank Tim Preston for the awesome write up and Jo Clark and Paul Growcott for their help behind the scenes. Congratulations to all the players who took part. CHRISTCHURCH

INTERCLUB

How we doing??

We are always looking at how we can improve the quality of the Hellers Interclub Programme and ensure we are meeting your needs.

We would be very grateful if you could please spare 5 minutes to complete a Customer Satisfaction Questionnaire for Autumn Interclub and let us know how we are doing. Please click on the link below to complete the questionnaire, which will close on Wednesday 3rd July. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L9FBW6K

Thank you very much, we appreciate your feedback

Winter Interclub Entries for Winter Interclub are open and close Sunday 7th July. Check with your club how to register. Click here for information on dates, choice of ball, formats, awards & key rule changes. Please note the interclub committee have made some changes to the Women’s Program, which is highlighted below.

• 3 player teams have been introduced throughout the women’s interclub competition. The reason for doing this is to create more teams at the different levels; increasing variety and enabling more competitively matched games.

• Where possibly, all the women’s divisions will play at one venue on a night. There are a number of reasons for doing this, with one being is to make it more social and interactive and another is players from smaller clubs (in particular) can travel in together and could potentially be put into different teams to even out the teams and ensure competitive games.
