This half term’s topic is ‘Capture the Castle’
This week we will be focusing on princesses.
We hope that you will find some of these ideas helpful whilst you are at home with your child.
We have tried to make them as accessible as possible and there is no need to print anything off. Also, don’t forget to check

Read the story using the PDF on the Y2 home learning page. Then clarify these words and phrases. There may be more that your
child needs clarifying - there are quite a lot in this chapter. outrageous

Activity 3 - Answer the questions
1. What do you think a dragonocdile might look like? 2. Why are there lots of toads and frogs in her moat? 3. Can you try and draw a Pollyopticus? 4. What are the nicknames for her princess friends? 5. Why do the princesses decide they need an ‘independent venue’? 6. Who are the ‘bearded gentlemen’ that Snowy lives with? 7. Who wasn’t invited to the party? 8. What word shows how the carriage moves over the cobblestones?
Activity 4 - Retell and predict
Retell the story so far to your grown-up - can you remember what happened?
Was your prediction about why she is called Princess Smartypants?

English: There are 6 activities this week in order to write a full story - you may wish to do more than one a day or complete some next week.
Activity 1
Watch the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am-DNfDHPTQ This week we are going to write a tough princess adventure story (you can write one about a prince if you would prefer) Plan an adventure story We have included a story mountain plan but you can always draw your own - Draw a picture in each box - you may want to write a few notes.
Activity 2
Write the opening for your story. Using the sentence starter ‘Once there lived’ create an opening to your story which describes the characters and the setting. Challenge: Can you use two adjectives with a comma in-between to describe your character.
Activity 3
Write the build-up to your story. Look back at your story mountain from last week and read your story opening. Start a new paragraph by leaving a line. Using the sentence starter ‘One ______ day when’ write the build-up to your story which describes what the characters were doing before the adventure happens. Challenge: Can you use a comma + ‘and’ to write of list of things that your character does.
Activity 4
Write the problem to your story. Read your story so far and look at the problem on your story mountain. - don’t forget to start a new paragraph. Using the sentence starter ‘Unfortunately’ write the problem to your story - remember don’t write how it gets solved - this is tomorrow’s activity. Challenge: Can you use a questions mark and to make a character as a question?
Activity 5
Write the resolution to your story. Read your story so far and look at the problem on your story mountain. Using the sentence starter ‘Luckily’ write the resolution to your story - don’t forget to start a new paragraph. Challenge: Can you use adverbs in your writing?
Activity 6
Write the ending to your story. Read your story so far and look at the problem on your story mountain. Using the sentence starter ‘When it was over’ write the ending to your story - don’t forget to start a new paragraph. Challenge: Can you use the words asked and replied to make two characters talk to each other?
