Rhythms Literary Club – 11:25 a.m., Elston 420. Rhythms is SCCC’s student-run literary club. The group’s primary function is to produce an annual magazine of literature (short stories, plays, poems, songs, essays, etc.) and artwork (drawings, photographs, etc.), created by SCCC students, faculty and staff. The group also sponsors coffee-houses, readings, and other literary events. All students are welcome. (The group is also accepting poetry/prose/art submissions – write to [email protected]. Deadline: April 4.)

Tuesday, March 4

School of Music Presents the Art-Trio Volnitsa –7:30 p.m., Taylor Auditorium. The program will enable participants to acquire an understanding of the cultural dimensions of Russian traditional and classical music and uniqueness of Russian folk instruments. The group consists of three artists from Moscow, Russia renowned for both the mastery of their instruments and the music they play. The Art-trio “Volnitsa” is a great ambassador of Russian culture has delighted their audiences around the globe. Art-trio Volnitsa gives a new sounding to well-known old masterpieces of Russian music. They dare to play folk music in the way they understand and love it – without pathos and pretense, but with love and humor. Free.

Blood Drive – 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Activity Forum.

Wednesday, March 5 “Addicted to Plastic” – 6 p.m., Stockade 101. “Addicted to Plastic” is a feature-length documentary about solutions to plastic pollution. The film details plastic’s path over the last 100 years and provides a wealth of expert interviews on practical and cutting-edge solutions to recycling, toxicity and biodegradability. These solutions – which include plastic made from plants – will provide viewers with a hopeful perspective about our future with plastics. Screening followed by discussion and Q and A with filmmaker Ian Connacher. Sponsored by the SCCC Community and Cultural Events Committee.

Procrastination – 11:30 a.m., Elston 328. A discussion with Judy Fruiterman of TRIO.

Help – Starting at a Dollar. The students in the Student Volunteer Organization are making no-sew blankets for Safe Inc. in Schenectady. Project Safe is an outpatient treatment/referral

program that serves persons between 12 and 35 with a variety of services such as crisis intervention, emergency shelter and drug and alcohol counseling. SVO students are selling

raffle tickets for $1 to win this blanket. The money will be used to purchase personal care items for SAFE Inc. Please look for the SVO table on March 3rd and 5th in the commons and come join

the group to make a blanket.

Advise security of the nature of the emergency and the location of the problem. Security will investigate the situation, make appropriate contacts, file an incident report and follow up as

The SCCC School of Music is once again offering the Summer Audio Recording Institute, July 21-August 1. Participants will learn Protools software, recording techniques, microphone selection and placement, and work in the state-of-the-art Vianna-Brignola Recording Studio at SCCC, in a professional recording session. The Institute is directed by SCCC faculty member and experienced producer, Sten Isachsen. Cost of the Institute is $250 and the number of participants is limited to fifteen. High school students and adults may participate. See a copy of the Institute brochure, including an application form. The School of Music expects this Institute to sell out, so if interested, please act quickly.
