We acknowledge the Mouheneener People, the traditional custodians of this land on which we gather for worship.
This church seeks to be a place of safety and acceptance for all people.
John 17: 1-19 Do you ever feel like you don’t belong? Do you ever feel like nobody gets you with your obsession with Jesus? Are people perplexed by your apparent indifference to the rat-race of accumulating position, possession and popularity? If you do, I sug-gest that your Christian walk is going well. We are in the world but clearly our pur-pose is not primarily of it. Jesus has drawn us to himself through his selfless love and here, in the last night before he is betrayed, we hear his prayer for the disci-ples, and the disciple’s disciples and… their disciples who, are, well.., us! So here are the words of the Word who has placed the Word within his followers. Jesus’ prayer for us.., His church. He is leaving them but not alone. He does not so much pray for them, but he prays in them, in us, joy. A joy that is complete, transcendent and ultimately eternal. He knows the trials you will face in your walk but he knows also that as you go west whilst your friends go east, your purpose, consolation, reward and destiny is home. You don’t belong here, but you must be here so that others who also don’t belong may also find their way home. And the Father Son and Holy Spir-it walk with you. I find a lot of comfort in that. Rev. Michael Duke

70 YEARS OF NAKBA -a VIGIL
May 15 is when Palestinians and their supporters commemorate The Nak-ba (Arabic: The Catastrophe) where in 1948 up to 800,000 people were dis-placed and many were killed. This year marks 70 years of ongoing Nakba, with continued displacement in Jerusalem, imprisonment of Palestinians and the hor-rific blockade of Gaza forefront. Australians are passionate and active in solidarity - there will be 13 events sur-rounding Nakba70 - protests, vigils, parliamentary events and book launches.
You are invited to the VIGIL being held in
Hobart on 15 May, 5.30pm, 70 years of Nakba on the Parliamentary Lawns. This is the first event of the new group in Tasmania.
