HOLIDAY CRUNCH
The Y celebrated Carla Haller’s retirement for 28 years of dedicated service on January 10, 2016.
Carla’s YMCA career has been a wonderful blue print for any YMCA professional to follow. Carla was one of our outstanding YMCA employees, who have so many gifts and talents that they are so willing to share with the YMCA Community.
Starting as a part-time employee in 1987, she worked in both the YMCA’s Aquatic and Physical Departments working with preschool aged and elementary aged children. Learning the YMCA profession from the bottom up.
With Marguerite Newkirk and Mitzi Angulo as her mentors, Carla was always willing to do what the YMCA program department needed. Be it a tennis instructor for children, an Aquatic Instructor, Fitness Instructor or Camp Director one could always depend on Carla to do an exceptional job from promoting as well as delivering the program.
Her Heart is big… she was always ready to help a staff member with a listening ear. She was the same way with YMCA members and program participants. She was always sending cards to brighten someone’s day. Her leadership with the YMCA’s 50 plus Aquatic Program was exceptional and legendary. In addition to a fun caring water exercise class 3 times a week, she organized an annual Christmas Tea and regular seasonal trips to local points of interest for her class participants.
Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for 28 years of wonderful community service.
THANK YOU! FOR YOUR DEDICATED SERVICE

I started playing basketball in 3rd grade. Ever since then, I have been involved with competitive sports. I’ve been in numerous leagues, competitions, events, and different sports. Throughout the years, basketball always remained my favorite and I was honored to play in college. My focus from sports to general fitness occurred during my college years, whenever I decided to study exercise and wellness. Being able to help others reach their fitness goals is a rewarding experience for me. It’s never too late to improve your health. With my background in sports, I want to help challenge my clients in a fun atmosphere where they can feel accomplished after every workout. I am a graduate of Shippensburg University, where I majored in Exercise Science and minored in Disability Studies. I am also ACSM and CPR/AED certified. During my time in school I was involved with the FCA and played on the Women’s Basketball Team. As an intern, I worked with the Special Olympics of Franklin County and fell in love with the people and the atmosphere. I continue to volunteer whenever I can. In my free time, I can be found at the gym working on my own training regimen. When I’m at home, I enjoy reading and scrapbooking. If it’s nice outside I will try to ride my bike, run trails, or go hiking. Usually I’m accompanied by my boyfriend and dog, Butters.
