Technical specification for Single core LV cables/cord with flexible
conductor and single core, XLPE insulated, 33kV Cable Note: Bidder can submit their offer for any one item or for both the items
Specification for Single core, XLPE insulated, 33kV class HV cable
1. SCOPE:
This specification scope covers supply, inspection and testing of Single core XLPE-insulated
cable with FRLS PVC-sheath, circular-stranded-compacted copper conductor with nominal
cross section of 95mm2, covered with copper-screen 35mm2 and rated voltage (U0/U)
19/33kV. Additional helical wound copper tape with 3kV isolation over screen shall be
provided.
2. CODES AND STANDARDS:
The design, material, manufacturing, inspection, and testing of cable shall comply with all
currently applicable statutes, regulations and safety codes in the locality where the
equipment shall be installed. Indian Standard for XLPE power cable as per relevant IEC and
IS standards, some of the reference standards are listed below:

3. DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION FEATURES:
i. Conductor:
The cable conductor shall be class 2 of circular shape, stranded compacted copper conductor
having nominal cross section area of 95mm2. Copper conductor shall comply with IS 8130
or IEC 60228 standard.
ii. Conductor Screening:
Conductor screening shall be non-metallic and shall consist of a layer of extruded Semi
conducting compound, which shall be firmly bonded to the inner surface of the insulation.
The contact of the semi-conducting shields with the cable insulation must be perfect without
void creation at the inner surfaces. The interfaces must be smooth in a regular geometric
shape and the semi conducting compound must have homogeneous structure particularly at
the interfaces.

iii. Insulation
Electrical grade cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) shall be extruded in simultaneous
extrusion of conductor screening layer and insulation screening layer and shall be suitably
cured. The nominal thickness of the XLPE insulation shall as per IS 7098-2 and shall
be guaranteed by the manufacturer to withstand the specified test voltages between
conductor and insulation screen.
iv. Insulation screening (Extruded semi-conductive, copper wire with tape
and water swell-able tape)
The insulation screening shall consist of a layer of extruded semi-conducting
compound provided over the insulation simultaneously with the extrusion of the
insulation.
Metallic screen consist of helically wound copper wires and tape shall be provided over
semi-conducting screen. Equivalent cross-section area of the metallic screen shall be
35mm2. Copper tape must be overlapped to make good electrical contact among tape itself
and tape to copper wires.
Layer of wrapped semi-conductive water swell-able tape shall be provided between
insulation screen and copper wire. Also layer of wrapped plain water swell-able tape shall be
provided between copper tape and inner sheath.
Metallic screen shall be earthed during normal operation.
v. Inner-Sheath
Extruded PVC inner Sheath shall be provided. The inner-sheath shall be suitable to withstand
the site conditions and the desired temperature. The material of inner-sheath shall be
compatible with temperature rating of the cable. Inner sheath shall provide minimum 3kV
electrical isolation between insulation screen and additional copper screen provided over
inner sheath.
vi. Additional Copper screen
Layer of wrapped copper tape screened shall be provided over inner-sheath. Inner-sheath
insulation shall provide minimum 3kV isolation between insulation screen and copper
screen. To verify the electrical isolation test shall be conducted at factory.
vii. Outer-Sheath:
The outer sheath shall be of fire resistant low smoke of extruded PVC material. Color of the
outer-sheath shall be black.
4. Principal Parameters:

Single core XLPE-insulated cable with FRLS PVC-sheath, circular-stranded-compacted
copper conductor with nominal cross-section of 95mm2, covered with copper-screen 35mm2
and rated voltage (U0/U) 19/33kV. Additional helical wound copper tape with 3kV isolation

non-returnable cable drum
6. Tests:
In case of order, routine test and acceptance test report to be submitted for review before
dispatch. Purchaser reserve the right to witness these test at factory before dispatch. Standard
for the test is IS 7098-2 or IEC 60502-2.
7. Length:
The cable shall be supplied in standard drum length, + 5% tolerance shall be accepted.
8. Cable Drum:
Cable shall be supplied in specified non-returnable drums.
The drums shall be of heavy construction. All wooden components shall be manufactured
from seasoned wood. All ferrous parts used shall be treated with a suitable rust preventive
finish or coating to avoid rusting during transit or storage.

9. PACKING AND TRANSPORT:
The cable shall be placed on drums in such a manner that it will be protected from damage
during transit. Each end of the cable shall be firmly and properly secured to the drum. The end
of each length shall be sealed before shipment. The drums shall be secured firmly in position so
that they will not shift during transit.
The labels shall be securely attached to drum indicating the purchaser's order number, length of
cable, size of conductor, number of cores, type of cable and voltage grade for which it is
suitable. An arrow and suitable accompanying wording shall be marked on one end of the drum
indicating the direction in which it should be rolled. Packing and marking shall be in
accordance with IS : 7098 (PART - I).

1. Scope:
This specification scope covers supply of 25mm2, Plain annealed copper conductor, single
core, non-sheathed cables/cord with flexible conductors with voltage class 450/750 V or
1100V as per IS 694
2. Codes and standards:
The design, material, manufacture, inspection, and testing of cable shall comply with all
currently applicable statutes, regulations and safety codes in the locality where the
equipment shall be installed. Indian Standard for low voltage, non-sheathed cables/cord as
per relevant IEC and IS standards, some of the reference standards are listed below:

The insulation shall be so applied that it fits closely on the conductor. Thickness of insulation
shall be as per IS 694

Insulation thickness, overall diameter, conductor resistance and mechanical property shall be
as per IS 694. Current rating in air shall be minimum 70A
