Best known for his initial unwillingness to believe the other apostles in their claim that Jesus had risen from the dead, St. Thomas can teach the faithful about believing without seeing. As an apostle, Thomas was dedicated to following the Lord. Upon hearing that Jesus was returning to Judea, an area that would pose dangers due to the growing animosity of the authorities there, he immediately said to the other apostles, "Let us also go, that we may die with him.(Jn 11: 16). Yet despite this determination, Thomas proved not only too weak to stand beside Jesus as he faced his crucifixion, but also doubted the Lords Resurrection when he was told about it by the other apostles. Denying their story, he told them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe" (Jn 20: 25).A week later, Christ appeared and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." When Thomas did so he exclaimed, "My Lord and my God!" In his general audience on September 27, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of St. Thomas, explaining that we can learn from his doubts, which show us "that Jesus can now be recognized by his wounds rather than by his face." "The Apostle Thomascase is important to us for at least three reasons," said the Pope. "First, because it comforts us in our insecurity; second, because it shows us that every doubt can lead to an outcome brighter than any uncertainty; and, lastly, because the words that Jesus addressed to him remind us of the true meaning of mature faith and encourage us to persevere, despite the difficulty, along our journey of adhesion to him." After Pentecost, St. Thomas is traditionally believed to have preached the Good News to the Persians and Medes, until he reached India, where he evangelized and was eventually martyred in 72 A.D. St. Thomasfeast day is July 3, and he is the patron of architects and builders.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July 02, 2017

“ You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy

nation; announce the praises of him who called you out

of the darkness into his wonderful light.”

MT 10: 37-42

On July 3, the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Thomas the Apostle. Best known for his initial

unwillingness to believe the other apostles in their claim that Jesus had risen from the dead, St. Thomas can teach

the faithful about believing without seeing. As an apostle, Thomas was dedicated to following the Lord. Upon

hearing that Jesus was returning to Judea, an area that would pose dangers due to the growing animosity of the

authorities there, he immediately said to the other apostles, "Let us also go, that we may die with him.” (Jn 11: 16).

Yet despite this determination, Thomas proved not only too weak to stand beside Jesus as he faced his crucifixion, but

also doubted the Lord’s Resurrection when he was told about it by the other apostles. Denying their story, he told them, "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and

place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe" (Jn 20: 25).A week later,

Christ appeared and said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my

side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." When Thomas did so he exclaimed, "My Lord and my God!"

In his general audience on September 27, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of St. Thomas, explaining that we can learn from his doubts, which show us "that Jesus can now

be recognized by his wounds rather than by his face." "The Apostle Thomas’ case is important to us for at least three reasons," said the Pope. "First, because it comforts us in

our insecurity; second, because it shows us that every doubt can lead to an outcome brighter than any uncertainty; and,

lastly, because the words that Jesus addressed to him remind us of the true meaning of mature faith and

encourage us to persevere, despite the difficulty, along our journey of adhesion to him." After Pentecost, St. Thomas is traditionally believed to have preached the Good News to the Persians and Medes, until he reached India, where he evangelized and was eventually martyred in 72 A.D. St.

JULY 2, 2017 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." When Jesus says paradoxical things like this, we can still trust him. Even when he makes claims that, at first glance, seem impossible, we know that he's not talking gibberish. Why? Because

Jesus lived the ultimate paradox: he brought life out of death. His resurrection proves for us that

things are not always as they appear. The Crucifixion, which looked like the end of Jesus'

influence, was actually a tremendous new beginning.

So when Jesus promises that we will find life through a kind of death, we shouldn't question

his claim. Of course in today's Gospel, Jesus isn't necessarily talking about physical death,

although the "red" martyrs who suffer for him do in fact find their reward in eternal life. "White"

martyrdom, on the other hand, is a kind of death to self that doesn't involve bloodshed. It means putting love and generous service ahead of our

own self-gratification. It means doing these things for the sake of Christ. When he tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, this is what he's

talking about. So, how can we be white martyrs today? How can

we sacrifice our desire for perfect comfort, or entertainment on demand, or status or pleasure or sleep or whatever else for the sake of serving another person? In our families, in our schools

and workplaces, in our parishes, in our neighborhoods and our communities, there are myriad opportunities to "lose our lives" for the sake of Christ. But don't forget, in dying to our-selves, we will find our lives in a new way! The fulfillment Christ offers us in return, both now and in eternity, will be far better than anything

we try to cling to on our own.

2 DE JULIO DE 2017 13er Domingo del Tiempo

Ordinario

Help us pray for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ-

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn to You in this time of

illness. O’ dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with Your gentle love, and grant us the grace and

strength to accept this burden. Dear God,we place our worries in Your hands. We place our sick under Your care and humbly ask that You restore your servant to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to

acknowledge Your holy will and know that whatsoever You do, You do for the love of us.
