PLEASE STOP BY THE TABLES OF RELIGIOUS WARES (Nativity sets, rosaries, statues, crucifixes, charms, etc.) after all the Masses March 18 & 19. Ayman Khair representing about 180 Christian families from Bethlehem. These families have been dependent upon sales of their hand carved religious articles to tour-ists of the Holy Land. Due to the conflict in the Middle East, the tourism has been cut off. In order to survive, they have turned to Christian communities in the United States to purchase their articles. These hand carved religious articles are beyond de-scription. Carved from wood of the sacred Olive tree, this workmanship has been traditional for these families for hundreds of years. It is hoped that through the efforts of Mr. Khair, that these families have a little income and are able to stay living in the Holy Land. Amazingly enough, The Christian population dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the last 30 years. Thank you in advance for your support.

"What can I do to be a good steward and disciple of Jesus?"
In today’s Gospel Reading from John, we hear the story of the Samaritan woman whom Jesus confronts at the well. Jesus and His Apostles are traveling from Jerusalem in the south to Galilee in the north. The quickest route, although inconvenient in some ways, was through Samaria. Jesus’ followers went to the nearby village of Sychar to procure food while He sat tired and thirsty by what is called Jacob’s Well. It was about noon, the hottest part of the day, and a Samaritan woman came to the well to draw water. Jesus breaks three Jewish customs in His exchange with the woman. First, He spoke to a woman, something forbid-den to men with strange women; second, she was a Samaritan woman, a group with whom Jews did not normally mix; third, He asked her to give Him a cup of water, which would have made Him ceremonially unclean from using her cup or jar. The woman was right-fully shocked. However, Jesus told her that He could give her “living water.” At that time some spring water was carbonated and it seemed “alive” as it bubbled up from the ground, so it was called “living water.” Jesus meant that the water He offered was alive in a different way because it could both give life and quench spiritual thirst. Although the whole situation is amazing to the woman, she is particularly struck by how much Jesus knows about her. She reports to her fellow Samaritans “He told me everything I ever did.” That is not what she found so surprising though. What truly astonished her was that in spite of that knowledge, Jesus still loved her. Jesus loves us as well, despite our many shortcomings and sins.

CHARITY & DEVELOPMENT APPEAL
Our parish is making steady progress to-wards our CDA goal of $100,000 and 100% participation. To date, our parish has raised $45,822. It is not too late to make a gift. Every gift, no matter the size, will make a difference in our commu-nity. Please make your gift today.
Because of you, the Charity and Develop-ment Appeal (CDA) is able to provide critical support for parishes and schools; support our clergy, religious and seminarians; provide funding to organizations serving families and individuals in crisis; serve the needs of our community beyond what any one parish would be able to do alone.
Information about the CDA can be found at www.diocesephoenix.org/cda. Gifts can be made online or by completing a pledge card. Thank you for your sup-port.
New this year is the ability to TEXT TO GIVE. Text the amount of your gift along with the letters CDA to 602-313-0309. Giving this way is fast, easy and secure!
The Mass … A Conversation with God Each weekend we have the opportunity to listen to the word of God in Scripture and listen to a reflection on Scripture in a short homily. We invite you to prepare for your conversation with God this coming weekend by reading beforehand the Scriptures that will be used in the Mass and by lis-tening to a homily reflective of those Scripture passages. You can find this on a web site designed by Fr. Boyle at www.homilyweek.com.
CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
The Catholic Relief Services Collection supports Catholic Church organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts. Programs include relief and resettlement for victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters; devel-opment projects to improve living conditions for the poor; legal and support services for poor immigrants; peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and advocacy on behalf of the powerless.
In keeping with the theme "Help Jesus in Disguise," the funds collected through the CRS Collection support vital Catholic programs that share in the Catholic mission of pro-moting the sacredness of human life and the dignity of the human person.
Please be generous in the CRS collection next weekend.
"Our true worth does not consist in
what human beings think of us.
What we really are consists in what
God knows us to be."

† SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
"But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshippers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth." Are we true worship-pers? Do we praise and honor God the Father in the way Jesus described to
the Samaritan woman at the well? It seems that this woman was caught up in logistics about WHERE to worship more than HOW to worship. Her people worshiped in one place, the Jews in another. She was puzzled by this and, even though she could see that Jesus was a prophet, she challenged him because she thought perhaps he wasn't a true worshipper of God. The Lord's response to her was to shift the focus away from a partic-ular physical location for honoring God. In essence, he told her that what mattered was that we worship God by being filled with his Spirit, "the Spirit of truth, [who] will guide you to all truth," as Jesus will say later in John's Gospel (16:13). This woman, whose life was marked by such a sad string of broken relationships, had been missing the point. Worshipping God means more than merely practicing a community ritual or frequenting a sacred site. If we don't come to truly know God by welcoming his Spirit into our hearts, then our worship will be emp-ty and our lives will always be missing something. The deep fulfill-ment that is meant to come from following the Lord is a fruit of being filled with his Spirit. Without drinking fully of this "living water" that is available to all of us through the waters of baptism, we will always be seeking something more, like this poor woman. Instead, may we be true worshippers, who drink with satisfaction from the Lord's own "spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Catholic Charities is the only licensed Catholic adoption agency in the Diocese. We bring our Catholic identity and values to the miracle of creating new families through infant adoption. We have many families on our waiting list BECAUSE they want to adopt through Catholic Charities, but we simply do not have enough infants for our families waiting to adopt. This seems hard to believe when we know that there are so many women experiencing unplanned pregnancies. Our pregnancy counseling program provides free, life-affirming support to those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. We go to the clients, wherever they might be, and help them explore the life-affirming choices of parenting or place-ment with a loving adoptive family. If parenting, we help them to develop the skills and resources they need to parent successfully. If placing for adoption, we help them decide whether they would like an open or closed adoption and they choose the family. Our support is life-long for birth and adoptive parents as well as baby. No one should experience an unplanned pregnancy without compassionate, life-affirming support. For information contact [email protected]. Our counselors are available 7 days a week, toll-free on our pregnancy hotline 1.888.818.4445.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU — ALL LIFE IS A BLESSING!
The Church promotes unity among all the followers of Christ which flows from our common baptism and seeks the fullness of unity which is a condition of evangelization. The restoration of unity among all Christians is one of the principal concerns of the Second Vatican Council. Division damages the holy cause of preaching the Gospel to every creature. Thus we are asked to pray faithfully that unity will be achieved by those separated. The Church of Phoenix is called to participate in the quest for unity by promoting ecumenical and inter-religious relations as mandated by Vatican II. The Church has urged the faithful to seek unity with her separated Christian brothers and sisters and respect the truth found in all religions. It is essential that each parish as part of its mission seek ways to further unity with all Christians and non-Christians. As part of this call we at St. Maria Goretti Parish join the Diocese of Phoenix in this quest. Those interested in furthering this ministry please contact Tom Brady 480-745-5080.

Do you use Natural Family Planning in your marriage? At the request of Bishop Olmsted all engaged couples are required to take the entire NFP series as part of their marriage prep requirement. We need more trained NFP instructors because of the great numbers of couples, en-gaged and already married, who want to use natural methods to plan their families. Would you prayerfully consider answering the Bishop’s call and train to become a certified Sympto-Thermal NFP instructor? Instructor training will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Diocesan Pastoral Center, beginning March 21. We cover the entire cost of the instruction as long as you agree to teach as a volunteer for Phoenix Natural Family Planning Center. For more information or to request an application and interview, please contact Cindy Leonard at 602-354-2123 or [email protected]
