Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you are all keeping well. Thank you for sending photographs of the children keeping
themselves very busy!
The homework for the coming week is attached below and the answers to some of last
week’s work are at the very end. As Monday is a Bank Holiday we are sending work for four
days only.

English
-English in Practice Day 134 to 137.
-Spelling Workbook:
Unit 14. Please learn the lower half of the spellings for this week and complete activities
on pages 56 & 57. Words may also be put into sentences.
For those of you who do not have your Spelling Workbook please go to Prim-Ed website.
Select “For Parents” section. Select “Download your free pack”. Fill in username etc. Check
email and select download pack for the relevant class level. Scroll down to the spelling page
section. Activities can be completed in your homework copy if you have no printer at home.
-Reading Zone:
Read Unit 28 and answer questions A to D.
For those of you who do not have your Reading Zone book at home please go
to Folens on Line Registration
Select Teacher.
Fill in a username, email and password.
For Roll Number use the code: Prim20.
Search Reading Zone 3rd/4th in the Search bar.
Select the book.
-Reading: Continue with your own personal reading.
-The English Workbook Book E: Complete the activities on pages 112-115. Please refer to
page 104 for the structure of a recount.

- Irish spellings: Please write the following spellings into your Irish copy. You can then
learn them and put into sentences using your toolkit.

Irish Verb: Please write the following verb into your Verb And Grammar copy and learn.
Don’t forget to point to the person as you say the verbs!

Irish Grammar: Go to the back of your Verb And Grammar copy and revise ‘Mo + h’ and
‘Sa + h’.

words, just try it.
Please note the following words to help understand the story:

-Faigh na heochracha=Get the keys
-Coiméadaí=Caretaker
-Seomra stórais=Storage room
-Answer the 6 questions on page 128. Cár fhéach siad?=What did they see ?
Cá raibh?=Where? Cé?=Who? Cá bhfuair siad?= Where did they get?
-Fill in the blanks at the bottom of page 128 using the pictures as clues.
Maths
-Mental Maths: Page 92 to 94. (You can ignore the column for Monday if you want)
-Planet Maths: Time 2.
-If you have a watch at home it would be good if you wore it to help with the topic of Time
this week.
Am means before noon.
Pm means after noon.
There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a
week, 365 days in a year, 366 days in a leap year, 52 weeks in a year, 12 months in a year,
10 years in a decade and 100 years in a century.

When adding hours and minutes, place the minutes under the minutes and the hours under
the hours. The same applies for subtraction. Always deal with the minutes first.
Please look at the following You Tube clip to help you add and subtract hours and minutes. This can be a
tricky topic to grasp and is hard to explain without the class in front of me. Do your best, and email me if
you have any questions.

Religion
Theme 9 Lesson 1 pages 73 - 75. Early Christian Ireland. Read the stories with an adult.

S.E.S.E.
Our History will link in with our Religion lesson this week. You will be reading about St.
Kevin and Glendalough in Co. Wicklow. Read the Religion story first as outlined in your
Religion lesson above.

Open the 3rd Class book on the website and select theme 9, lesson 1.
Open and read about St. Kevin and the monster, St. Kevin and the blackbird, St. Kevin and
the otter and finally St. Kevin and the treehouse. Choose your favourite story and
summarise that in your S.E.S.E. copy.
Open up the link ‘Let’s Look. Images from Early Christian Ireland’. Select Tipperary and
scroll down through the images. Choose some of your favourite designs and sketch snippets
into your S.E.S.E. copy. These can then be used in your Art lesson to when drawing your
own Celtic cross.
Art
As this week’s Art lesson is linked in with History and Religion, you can design a Celtic
cross incorporating some of your favourite Celtic designs.
Music
Tin whistle: Practice the rhythm of the notes first by clapping it out a few times. Practice
the scale of D before trying to play the following song on the tin whistle.
This week we will learn the song An Ghaoth Aneas (The South Wind) printed below.
