The Thinking Skills Programme is designed

to look beyond the service user’s crime and examine the real reasons why they offend.

It gives participants the opportunity to look at the problems they face and how they make them think, feel and behave. It develops emotional self-management, problem solving and social interaction skills, all designed to encourage men to find pro-social solutions to problems which have, in the past, led to poorly thought through decisions and behaviour.

“The Thinking Skills Programme was a revelation to me…

...It helped me work on my thinking and helped me to find patterns in my behaviour which continued to cause me problems. I was very enthusiastic about what I was learning and the Facilitators working with me became aware of how my positivity was rubbing off on other group members. At the end of the programme I was asked if I would like to do volunteer work for RISE. Now I attend Induction sessions and talk to Service Users about my life and experience of being on the programme. I also attend a mentoring course with RISE, giving me new skills which will further help me to work with people assisting them to move towards making positive change to their lives.”
