2. Specification of the product
a. Background information
b. Product description
TRISO SUPER 10+ is a thin reflective multi-layer insulation system with a thickness of 35 mm. It is
composed of external reinforced films, polyester fiber wadding, polyethylene flexible foam and
metalized films.
Figure 1 : Picture of TRISO-SUPER 10+
Its thermal resistance is equivalent to 210mm of mineral wool, which has a declared thermal
conductivity of 0.04W/mK and a declared R value of 5.25m²K/W.

c. Product specificities
In addition to material technical specification, products also respond to norms as described beside. Water sealing: Conform with norms NF EN 1928 & NF EN 13859-1 Mechanical resistance: Conform with norms NF EN ISO 13934-1 & NF EN ISO 13937-2 Behavior of trickling water: Guide CSTB of 24/02/1992
3. Methodology
As exposed in PCR BASIC MODULE Construction products and Construction services paragraph 6.6
Cut off rules, “Life Cycle Inventory data for a minimum of 99% of total inflows to the upstream and
core module shall be included, accounted as GWP or energy consumption ».
a. System boundaries
This EPD is realized for the scope “cradle to grave” which includes all life cycle stages from raw
material supply to end-of-life.
Figure 3 : Life cycle stages included in LCA
Product stage
A1: extraction of raw materials
Data used have been extracted from ecoinvent database V2.2.
A2: transport processes are cut-off, due to negligible influence
A3: manufacturing of the product and all single components, including manufacturing of packaging
materials
Energy production mix used for manufacturing is French production mix as existing in EcoInvent V2.2.

Construction process stage
A4: delivery of products from plant to customer as a standard scenario.
According to Actis isolation sales repartition, the distribution scenario has been chosen at 1231 km.
For each country, the distance between Limoux (11, France) and the capital is chosen and the
delivery distance is calculated to 1 231 km. The mean of transport is a truck > 32 tonnes, Euro 3.
A5: effort (energy and material) and emissions of packaging incineration/landfilling
Use stage
Use stage is out of the study because this product doesn’t require maintenance, repair, replacement
or refurbishment. During use phase, no strip replacement is useful.
End-of-life stage
C2: transport scenario for end-of-life
This transport is set at standard scenario 25 km by truck > 32 tonnes, Euro 3.
Waste and disposal
End of life of the insulation material has been calculated with European figures from plastic europe.
Plastic waste from building & construction
Figure 4 : Waste treatment repartition for plastic building parts
C3: waste processing
Incineration, calorific value of this insulation panel is set at 40 MJ/kg.
C4: disposal
Landfill, landfilling EcoInvent V2.2 process is used.
D: recovery and recycling potential
Recycling model used come from EcoInvent V2.2 database.
Recycling 20,0%
Incineration 36,2%
Landfill 43,8%

Water consumption is at 79% due to production phase for manufacturing process electricity
supplying.
In this study, water is recycled on the polyethylene foam production. It is realized in closed loop. So,
this water is not taken in account in this study.
c. Electricity consumption Electricity consumption have been integrated into others indicators according to French energy

Comments:
Hazardous waste product during the whole life cycle is eliminated according to European directive in
classed II final waste storage centre.
At the end of life, the non-hazardous waste corresponds to the studied product. That quantity
represents 85% of the non hazardous waste product during the whole life cycle.
Inert waste come from stages upstream and downstream of the production stage as electricity
production, fuel refining for the transport, etc.
Radioactive waste amount is due to electricity production.
7. Release of dangerous substances during the use stage
Results of tests show than VOC emissions are “low and safety”, lower than 0.25 mg VOC in gas
phase/kg of TRISO-SUPER 10+.
