POLISHING

The patina and shine on your thimble and sewing ornaments lasts well if worn regularly. We use special equipment to finish our products. Please avoid storage in direct sunlight, humidity, rubber bands, acidic cardboard, latex, polishing compounds and harsh abrasives. We offer gentle polishing pads for $5 that are safe for fine jewelry, even with gems. The pad gets quite soiled but continues to work and should not be washed.

RETURNS When mailing a thimble or needle threader for repair or exchange: Use a locking

medicine bottle with padding inside to keep the thimble from rattling and to protect gem, if there is one.

Mail in a bubble wrap envelope.

Send first class with delivery confirmation.

Enclose a note with your name, address, phone, email and what needs to be done.

If a hole or break has developed, mark it with a permanent pen to help us find it.

We are not currently charging for repairs, on our thimbles or jewelry, however we do ask for $10 per item for return shipping & handling.

Fee to repair thimbles made by others is $50

MEASURING FOR A THIMBLE Measure US ring size at the base of the nail on the finger you use to push the needle. For taller thimbles, measure between the base of the nail and your first knuckle. Draw an outline of your finger from the top and also from the side, to send with your order to help us adjust the thimble to conform to the contours of your finger. To use our plastic ring sizer put the tapered end into the ―box‖ then pull to make a circle. Slide it onto your finger to the base of your nail. If the thimble is tall, place the circle closer to your first knuckle. Read the number at the point of the arrow for whole and ½ sizes—spaces for ¼ sizes. The sizer should slide on and fit snugly enough to avoid falling off. There is a sizer on the website that can be printed, cut out and taped together, or you can just use a quarter inch wide strip of paper and tape it into a circle to send with the drawings of your finger.

OUR PRODUCTS Thimbles, sewing tools and ornaments are designed by Tommie Jane Lane. She is into the fifth decade of making jewelry, and continues to create models for new styles as well as one-of-a kind pieces. Most of the thimbles and some of the components are made with the lost wax process in the USA. We do the finishing ourselves. Sterling silver is the primary metal used, often in combination with 18K gold. Any of the items in this catalog may be ordered in gold. What you need to know about cages to hold thimbles

A thimble must fit snugly in its cage. Cages are available in several sizes. When ordering, tell us the thimble style number (or dimensions if it is not one of ours) so we can fit the cage to your thimble. Each cage is hinged at the bottom, and comes with a16mm lobster claw clasp on a heavy figure 8 connector to attach to a chatelaine or chain, plus a short guard chain with 8mm spring ring clasp . Neck chains and thimbles shown with the cages are sold separately.

Hand made thread winder with Jinny Beyer logo and gem is beautifully functional on a chatelaine. 6mm tube holds about 30 18” lengths of thread. Thread fibers can be mixed. About 8cm long with clasp. Instructions to load the thread winder core are included. A charm or beeswax keeper can be hung from the bottom loop. A Thread Winder Template helps you measure the 18‖ threads precisely. TJ uses a small cardboard box to pull thread from 5 spools of thread through holes in the top of the box, and winds 5 strands at a time around the template for fast progress. Style of template may vary.

Thread Cutters and Combination tools—Handy and safe for travel by air

We use a rotary cutter blade in these tools, sandwiched between the Sterling design on the front and a Sterling back. Bring the thread to any notch to cut. On the combination tool, the bottom is a needle threader wire with a tube to protect the wire and hold one or two fine needles. The wire can thread a #12 needle. See needle threader technique on page 10 for long-lasting use. We can replace the wire. Each has an 8mm clasp on its chain to connect to a chatelaine or neck chain.

Needle threader technique Rotate and pull needle threader straight from it’s keeper. Line the loop of the wire up with the length of the needle. Rest the tip of the needle threader wire on the eye of the needle. Gently rock the threader wire up and down to ease it through the eye of the needle. Press lightly on one side of the wire if necessary to start it through. Wet a generous length of the end of the thread. Insert the thread through the loop of the threader wire. Allow the thread to relax as the threader wire is again rocked gently back. Remove the needle threader and store it in its keeper, with one or two spare needles.

Our Needle Threader can thread a #12 needle. The keeper is a sterling silver tube, large enough to store a couple of needles. It is on a safety chain with a clasp at the top, to connect to a neck chain or chatelaine. Length is about 11cm long including the clasp

AMAZING GRACE THIMBLES—Special Note The 150-year-old church I attend must have its antiquated heating and cooling system replaced. My pledge to the building fund is income from the Amazing Grace style thimbles until completion of the project. Besides the domed top and recessed top thimbles, a third style, not illustrated, has a gemstone set in its top. Current selection of gems includes two set with high dome amethyst cabochons, one with faceted rose quartz, one with a cabochon moonstone with carved face, one with low dome opal doublet. Each is $150.
