Ongoing projects updates:

Thika Water & Sewerage Company Ltd is a Water Service Provider (WSP) fully owned by the County Government of Kiambu, and licensed by Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) to serve over 350,000 residents of Thika subcounty and its environs.

Thiwasco has grown to be a reputable institution in service provision and it is also ISO 9001-2015 certified. It has continued to serve its customers amidst challenges such inadequate and dilapidated infrastructure that is not able to meet the high population growth rates with increased demand for water and sanitation services. Strategies to improve the infrastructures to enable meet the increased demand have been put in place as portrayed in this newsletter. Guided by the company’s Vision, Mission and Core values we posted good performance evidenced by the recent performance in the Impact Assessment Report by WASREB 2020.

THIWASCO has always performed exemplary in the past WASREB reports since it became part of this assessment. This is due to the concerted efforts by the company’s staff and stakeholders which has led to various achievements including water and sanitation extension projects, revenue growth, participation in CSR activities among others.

INTERNALLY FUNDED PROJECTS

1.Contract Name: - Kang’oki Trunk Sewer Line Rehabilitation project. Contract No: THIWASCO 045/2018-2019. Contractors Name: Sengerema Limited. Contract amount: KES 27,587,849 Scope: Replacement and rehabilitation of existing Trunk DN 675mm and DN 600 concrete sewer and accessories. Total Length: 1.46Km. Progress Kang’oki Trunk. 90% Executed

Objective of the Project: Rehabilitate the old dilapidated and collapsing trunk sewer line that conveys sewage from Thika town to the sewerage Treatment works at Kang’oki in order to mitigate the risks of accidents, outbreak of diseases and reduce the maintenance cost. The collapsing line has led to sewage flooding in collapse sections leading to serious risks to life property and health thus requiring immediate emergency replacement works.

Replacement and rehabilitation of existing Trunk DN 675mm and DN 600 concrete sewer and accessories.

2.Contract Name: Construction of Boreholes within THIWASCO service Area. (Completed)

Contract No: THIWASCO 052/2017-2018 Contractors Name: Maji Africa Limited Contract amount: KES 22,496,428 Scope: Borehole development and equipping including construction of pump house, control panel, elevated steel tank and interconnection to the mainline, for two boreholes namely Kibute Borehole and Thika Primary school Borehole. A). Thika Primary Borehole

Progress: 100% Complete

Scope: Borehole development and equipping including construction of pump house, control panel, elevated steel tank and interconnection to the mainline.

Progress: 100% Complete Benefits: Increase water supply production to meet increased demand.

A) Witeithie Kibute Borehole.

Scope; Borehole development and equipping including construction of pump house, control panel, elevated steel tank and interconnection to the mainline.

Progress: 100% Complete

Benefits; Increase production and access to all residents of Kibute and Witeithie residents.

3.Contract Name: Upgrading and Extension of Water Supply Pipeline at Witeithie Area. Pipeline Length is 3.5km. Contract No. THIWASCO 043/2018-2019 Contractor Name: Zila Systems Limited Contract amount: KES 13,174,953

Scope: Installation of a 3.5Km water pipeline to serve Witeithie residents and installation of appurtenances. Progress: 100% Complete Benefits of the Project: Improved water access to residents of Witeithie.

Curing of surface box after works completion. Installation of fittings and Appurtenances.

4.Contract Name: Rehabilitation of 1,000 m3 prestressed concrete circular Clear Water Tank

Contract No. THIWASCO 001/2020-2021 Contractor Name: Birdi Civil Engineers Ltd Contract amount: KES 4,014,527.00 Scope: To seal the leaking 1,000m3 prestressed concrete tank. Line the internal tank walls and base with proprietary waterproofing slurry. Seal all the joints between approved pipe and concrete with proprietary sealant. Painting External walls.

Progress: 96% Complete.

5. Contract Name: Refurbishment of water treatment plant and replacement of filter media.

Contract No. THIWASCO 002/2020-2021 Contractor Name: Birdi Civil Engineers Ltd Contract amount: KES 8,540,400.00

Scope: Installation of 12 No. Penstock with spindle and headstock. Rehabilitation of filters and installation of filter media. Rehabilitation of upwash sluice valves. Progress: 90% Complete.

Scope: Installation of a 3.5Km DN 150 mm HDPE water pipeline to serve Landless residents and installation of appurtenances. Pipe laying and backfilling: 3 Km Progress: 85% Complete
