You will be spoilt for choice when fishing in the waters of Thailand. Most anglers will begin their Thai experience by attempting to lure the infamous Giant Mekong Catfish – a monster species that can grow up to 300lb!

In addition, this country is home to one of the world's largest carp – the Giant Siamese Carp and the world's largest freshwater fish (scaled) – the Arapaima. You will also have opportunities to catch a multitude of other species famed for their sporting qualities – Barramundi, Pacu, Redtail Catfish and some fifty or so other species to lure, bait and catch.

To get the best results, fishing in Thailand can require many methods and techniques that may not be familiar to the Western Angler.

That is why all our tours include the services of an experienced local guide that will be on hand throughout the trip to offer advice and assistance where required. The local Guide will assist you as much or as little as you require and is there to ensure you get the most out of your Thai fishing experience. They are all Thai/English speaking and will:

BungsamranQuite possibly the most unique fishery on the planet. This amazing fishing venue currently holds 10 IGFA world records yet is tucked away down a very inconspicuous and sleepy soi, away from the hustle and bustle of Central Bangkok. When you first roll up to the entrance of this fishing paradise you could be forgiven for wondering whether you have found the right place since it is so unassuming. But as you walk through the covered walkway entrance, collect your bait and wander out onto the decked walkways that follow the perimeter of the lake, you are presented with a Shangri-La type vision, although hard to describe this venue as “pretty”, it has a rustic quaintness that will grow on you as the day passes.

Target Species–Giant Mekong Catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Pacu, Arapaima

Schooner ParkSchooner fishing park is around 40 minutes from central Bangkok. The venue offers anglers an opportunity to target the major catfish species - Striped Catfish and Mekong Catfish with fish up to 60kg/120lb. The lake is around 4 acres in size, and has comfortable grass banks from which to fish. On a good day an angler can expect to bag up on 20 fish or more at this resort in a day and hence it offers an action packed introduction to the Thai Fishing Scene.

Target Species – Mekong Catfish & Stripped catfish

Boon Mar PondsBarramundi fishing continues to be one of the most popular angling opportunities in Thailand. Boon Mar Ponds is set in the rural aquaculture district of Chachengsao. Surrounded by flat arable land, ponds can be seen all the way to the horizon, sparsely outlined by the occasional row of coconut palms or banana trees. The landscape is not pretty, but it is full of interest and typical of this rural area. There is interesting birdlife to observe with various waders, eagles and herons all trying to make a living from the farms. The stock of Barramundi in these ponds are typically larger, indeed the specimen pond now actually boasts far more specimens over 10lb than under, and 25lb specimens are not uncommon.

Target Species –Barramundi, Tilapia

IT Lake Monsters

Lake Monsters (or Predator Lake) built its reputation on its large Arapaima. Although these are no longer present, one thing Lake Monsters has continued to produce huge bags of Amazon species. It's not unusual to take 7 or 8 species in a day here and up to 30 fish per angler. This resort continues producing the goods for anglers in Thailand, with bags of up to 400kg of exotic fish in a single day possible. Lake Monsters is the perfect destination for those who want to try something different than to Bungsamran or Thailand's more conventional fishing parks. The size, shape and setting of the venue makes it very reminiscent of some English or European lakes although the iconic Palm Trees and monsters lurking beneath the surface provide a clear reminder you are in Thailand. Lake Monsters makes a great days fishing for anyone looking for action on light to medium tackle, from unusual and exotic species, it is certainly one of Thailand's fishing gems.

Target Species – Arapaima, Amazon Redtail, Tiger Catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Pacu, Arowana, Peacock Bass

Palm Tree Lagoon

Palm Tree Lagoon is a short drive from Hua Hin, or about 2hrs 30mins from Bangkok. This venue was once used to film John Wilson's Dream Fishing series shown frequently on the Discovery Channels throughout Europe. The venue has a rural setting, basic facilities, very rustic feel and perhaps is smaller than an angler might expect considering the size of some of the fish lurking beneath the surface. However, the fishing is exceptional and the owner is very proud of his stock of fish, and rightly so, since this venue has recorded some of the biggest weighed Arapaima we know of at 224kg. Additionally he has some enormous Chao-Praya Catfish approaching 100kg, a feat unrivalled anywhere in Thailand as well as some nice size Pacu, and other more obscure fish species such as the Thai Red-tail, Alligator Gar Amazonian Red-tail.

Target Species – Arapaima, Amazon Redtail, Chao Praya Catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Indian Carp.

Top Cats Fishing Resort

Most anglers will never have seen such a diverse selection of large fish in one place. There are over 4,000 fish and over 20 different species to catch. The specimen lake is set in 4.35 acres and has been designed and manicured to sit naturally within it's own spectacular natural environment. The lake has a depth of up to 27 feet and offers a diverse range of large fish. Due to the perfect environment, the natural food chain the venue has created and the high protein balanced diet the fish are fed the weight gains have to be seen to be believed. The helpful staff can advise you of the special techniques and baits required to catch each fish.

Target Species – Giant Siamese carp, Arapaima, Redtails

Cha Am Fishing Park

Cha Am Fishing Park is one of Thailand's better known fishing venues having been featured on several UK angling TV productions, as well as being written about by angling journalists. Cha Am Fishing Park provides anglers the opportunity to target Thailand's famous Giant Mekong Catfish up to 115kg and the Giant Siamese Carp up to 80kgs, but is also soon to open a predator lake with Arapaima, Amazon Redtails and a host of other exotic species that reach huge sizes. Located in private grounds on the outskirts of Cha-Am the fishing venue can boast a comfortable fishing environment for the recreational angler, as well as offering good quality bungalow accommodation and an extensive food and drinks menu. Being only 15 minutes from Cha- Am Beach and perhaps 35 minutes from central Hua Hin, Cha Am Fishing Park is very well situated to combine beach holidays with some extraordinary fishing. The Lake itself covers perhaps 4 or 5 acres and is basically rectangular in shape, the overall setting of Cha-Am Fishing Park is pleasant, with plenty of mature trees and shrubbery in the surrounding grounds.

Target Species – Mekong catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Arapaima, Amazon Redtails, Rohu, Indian Carp, Migral

Greenfield ValleyThis resort is the latest addition to the Thai fishing scene. John Wilson's brother David has carefully designed and stocked this complex of lakes on a tranquil 80 acre private estate which is set to become one of Thailand's most popular fishing destinations. The main lake has been stocked with 23 species of fish, with all the most popular species being present, such as Giant Siamese Carp, Arapaima, Amazon Red-tails, Giant Mekong Catfish with some specimens approaching 200lb. In addition to the well known species available for the angler to target here in Thailand, the lakes are stocked with some less well known species such as Marbled Tiger Catfish and Koi/Common Carp crosses.

Target Species – Arapaima, Carp, Mekong catfish, redtails

This resort is home to many of Thailand's largest freshwater specimens, with Arapaima to well over 360lb, Mekong Catfish over 270lb, Giant Siamese Carp touching 160lb as well as the world record size Pacu, Redtail Catfish and more.
