This year’s hottest cover model isn’t on the Sports Illustratedswimsuit issue. No, it’s the all-new Victory Hammer, the red-hot power cruiser that has been on a flood of motorcyclemagazine covers in recent months.

At one point recently, the Hammer was featured on the coversof Motorcyclist, Motorcycle Cruiser, Thunder Press and CycleCanada. And then came the rave review in the world’s mostwidely distributed motorcycle magazine, Cycle World.

Along with receiving extensive exposure on magazines coversand on motorcycle-related websites, the Hammer has beenthe object of effusive praise from motorcycle editors who rodeit during a press introduction event in late-2004 in the TexasHill Country.

The new bike with the 100-cubic-inch engine (the Freedom™100/6 V-Twin), 6-speed transmission with overdrive and250mm-wide rear tire is a hit with motorcycle magazine editors.

Aaron P. Frank, the Midwest desk Editor of Motorcyclistmagazine described the editors’ first group ride on theHammer: “Viewed from behind – especially en masse asVictory General Manager Mark Blackwell leads a half-dozenHammer-mounted journalists along a deserted Texas HillCountry highway – the Hammer is undeniably bad-ass… it’s impossible to overestimate the visualimpact the fat-tire Hammer makes.”

The Hammer is also a hit with riders who don’thappen to be magazine editors. The crowdsat the International Motorcycle Shows flockedto see the Hammer across the country allwinter. At Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach,Florida, riders got their first chance to takeVictory demo rides on the Hammer.

First in line to ride at Daytona were Bobbi andFred Johnson of Elk Ridge, Maryland. Bobbiordered a Hammer through the VictoryCustom Order Program and wanted to get afeel for how her new bike would perform, andshe was delighted. So was Fred, who rides a2004 Touring Cruiser with a Stage 1 kit.

“I like fat rear tires on bikes but I don’t like thecustom choppers and I was very excited tosee the Hammer,” Bobbi said. “I have one onorder and was glad to get the chance to rideone [at Daytona]. I loved it.”

Fred was also impressed, noting “I’ve neverfelt brakes like that except on a sport bike.”

Bobbi was so taken by the Hammer, byVictory and by its parent company that shealso bought 500 shares of Polaris stock.

The Hammers in the demo fleet were on theroad throughout Biketoberfest. They even putin overtime: Demo rides were offered onSunday, as most event vendors closed upshop, because of the rider demand. A coupleVictory enthusiasts had heard Hammer demorides were available, so they drove all nightfrom Pennsylvania to arrive in time for a

Sunday ride.

They said the great Hammerride experience made the longdrive south worthwhile.

a Hammer. The Johnsons

live in Elk Ridge, MD.

Frank was impressed by theHammer engine’s smoothness andpower, and by the Hammer’scornering clearance and brakes, which he called “easily the bestbrakes in cruiserdom, bar none.”

Thunder press Editor TerryRoorda said the Hammerperforms “Brilliantly. TheHammer’s power is prodigious. It’salso linear and predictable, pouring on without a blip or fadefrom an idle to the top of its powerband. It’s usable power for the waymost of us ride, pulling ferociously

in the low revs and hitting itsfull stride in the passingrange between 3500 and4000 rpm.”

Gregory Hardaway is the proud and happy owner of a “numbered”

(one of the first 1,500 Victory motorcycles ever built ) V92C.

Gregory rides No. 1017, a KYSO (Knock Your Socks Off ) Blue

model that he has customized and equipped for enjoyable tour

riding. Of this photo, he said, “Here I am in New Mexico… I have

54,000 miles on the bike and she is going strong.” Gregory is from

the birthplace of former President Bill Clinton—Hope, Arkansas.

NUMBERED STUNNER

Enthusiastic Victory owner David Koczan of Sorrento, Florida, loves customizing his bike. “I ordered my ‘04 Kingpin through the Victory

Custom Order Program and have been smiling ever since,” he said. “Half the fun is all the changes I keep making to it. I don’t think I will ever

be done.” Indeed, every time he and his wife Bertie ride to Bike Week or Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach, his bike has been customized further.

EVER-CHANGING

Terry Burnett and his wife Debbie live in Easley, South Carolina, and ride Terry’s 2001 V92C every chance they get, especially with

fellow Victory riders. “I did all of the work to my bike myself,” Terry said. “It is painted House of Kolor Burple Blue with pearl white

flames and orange pin stripes. The bike has been lowered, chromed and polished. I have added most of Pure Victory’s chrome along with

a few pieces from other bikes. I made the seat from a stock seat. My next step is to add forward controls, new pipes, rake the front end

and possibly add a 250 rear tire.” Terry travels for work and loves meeting and exchanging ideas with other Victory customizers.

Ben and Jamie Gresham live in Brentwood, California, near the San

Francisco Bay Area, where the climate gives them the chance to enjoy

their beautiful black 2003 Vegas year-round. They ride to areas such as

Capitola, California (near Santa Cruz) and the Napa Valley, and Ben has

ridden on Western legs of the annual V2V Relay. Their Vegas glistens in

the California sun with its spoked wheels, pulled-back bars and chrome

fender rails. Jamie enjoys the ride in comfort on a touring seat with a

We’re jealous of Rob LaCount of Ukiah, CA, and his girlfriend, Melissa

Freking, because they ride his sharp-looking 2003 V92C in what Rob

calls “the most beautiful riding area in the country. This is the gateway

to the redwoods so I ride through the most incredibly beautiful redwood

groves in the world. This is also ‘wine central,’ so I ride through wine

country and vineyards galore. The most spectacular area where I ride is

the coastline. The northern California coastline is among the most

awesome coastlines in the world. There are stretches right down next to

drops right into the ocean.”
