Founded in 1976, located in Provaglio d'Iseo (BS) Italy occu-pying a 70.000 sq.ft. site with a 40.000 sq.ft covered area for the factory and office complex, FLOATEX s.r.l. is cur-rently one of the leading companies in buoyancy and fendering for coast-al and offshore marine products. XFLOATEX NAVIGATIONAL AIDS DIVISION
For many years FLOATEX has been deeply involved in the design and manufacture of a wide range of navigational aids. The traditionally constructed steel buoys are still manufactured in addition to those built with the latest and most updated rotomoulded P.E. Rotomoulded expanded PU foam or GRP technology and materials.FLOATEX elastic beacons are designed and produced with the aid of a dedicated fully computerized stability and performance calculation program.FLOATEX produces as well a variety of pole beacons, GRP or rotationally moulded P.E. towers and other accessories. Particular care has been taken in the design and manufacture of the marine lanterns and their electronics, fully equipped with different power sources such as primary batteries, main power or solar energy systems.All those materials and equipment are designed and produced in accordance to the IALA recommendations and specifications as well as quality tested with the assistance of qualified third party inspec-tions and laboratory facilities such as the Italian military navy or the D.G.S.M. in the Netherlands.
FLOATEX OIL OFFSHORE AND DREDGING DIVISION
The knowledge and experience gained in the production of com-posed plastic materials and the laboratory extensive research, gives FLOATEX the capacity to fullfill the offshore industry requirements on special dedicated buoyancy materials.Technique of resilient foam covered with a thick skin abrasion resistant elastomer, is widely utilised in the in-line production of fenders, bead floats, anchor pendant, pick-up and chain support buoys. Rotationally moulded technology is utilised for the production of hinged type deepwater floats manufactured in accordance with the latest OCIMF specifications and recommendations as well as special modules for the dredging industry.FLOATEX internal laboratory facility enables independent inspection agencies to witness the test certificates issued.

ES60 MARINE LANTERN
FLOATEX has designed the Marine Lantern for short light signalling requirements and occasional respectively provisional applica-tions.
It has specifically been designed for application on buoys and pontoons in inland waterways, estuaries, harbours or for use on small buoys in open sea conditions.
Its reduced size allows easy installation on any structure, and the comparatively low cost makes it the very equipment for secondary lighting for emergency purposes.
It is extremely sturdy due to the use of high-grade material, ABS for the base and acrylic for lensing, and offers a perfect water tightness due to the gasket fitting.
The feeding cable passage can be positioned either under the lantern base or side.
The photocell (sun switch) is mounted on the lampholder cup, ensuring lighting only during the night time.
The solid structure as a whole and easy lens interchangeability make ES60 a manysided signalling assembly which is easy to install.

ES110 MARINE LANTERN
The ES110 Marine Lantern with its charac-teristics, is a very efficient and versatile aid for navigation.
It consists of a modern appositely designed Fresnel profiled dioptric drum, made of acrylic material with highly refractive properties, add-ing to the efficiency of the lantern.
This type of marine lantern allows easy inside inspection and needs no specific maintenance. It splits into two bodies placed on each other and is connected by means of hinged locking flange.
Six fastening screws divided around the top body flange provide for perfect tightness through a rubber gasket.
The reinforced nylon made base houses the lighting assembly and the on/off switch related device.
FLOATEX if so desired can provide this type of marine lantern with different electronic system.
Fixed light, single or composed precodified light characteristics programmable flasher is available.
The solid lantern construction permits easy installation on buoys, beacons, causeways, marine platforms and fixed onshore struc-tures. The lantern is qualified for light range requirements between 3 and 4 nautical miles.
The switch device can be lodged inside the lantern or in the base and makes the lantern work only at night precluding undue waste of energy and giving longer signalling autonomy with consequent reduction of common servic-ing attendance.

The automatic six-place lampchanger works through a special spring/solenoid device with no maintenance and readily rechargeable in the event of all of the bulbs being burnt through.

ES250LC256 MARINE LANTERN
The extraordinary sturdiness, due to the material used and the major accuracy level of the acrylic lens profile, make the 250 lantern a most valuable and modern assembly for marine signalling.
The acrylic lens makes the light intensity twice that of normal glass moulded optics of similar diameter.
The light weight structure of the acrylic lens enables FLOATEX to bring about a high-efficiency lantern.
The lantern itself is made up of two bodies placed on each other and connected by means of a hinged locking flange.
Lens fitting is established by means of a mounting ring.
Fastening screws divided around the top and body flange provide for perfect tightness through a rubber gasket.
The base of the 250 lantern has been pre-pared to insert different types of flashers and lampchangers.
The standard lantern type is supplied with a FLCG-256 static electronic flasher, internally programmable with a portable 12 V powered codifier and automatic six-place lampchanger moved by solenoid spring type PPC-6P.
The sun switch device, assembled on the lantern base, permits lighting only by night; undue waste of energy is prevented in this way prevented and a longer signalling lifetime with a reduction of common maintenance intervention successfully obtained.
The solid lantern body allows easy installation on small floating structures like buoys, bea-cons, marine platforms and fixed construc-tions onshore.
The ES250 Marine Lantern complies with light range requirements between 5 and 10 nautical miles whereas a bigger reach can be achieved with dual lanterns on fixed onshore structures.

The acrylic lens makes the light intensity to twice as much as normal glass moulded optics of even diameter.
The light-weight structure of the acrylic lens enables FLOATEX to bring about a high-efficiency lantern.
The lantern itself is made up of two bodies placed on each other, connected by means of a hinged locking flange. Fastening screws divided around the top and body flange pro-vide for perfect tightness through a rubber gasket. The base of the 305 lantern has been prepared to insert different types of flashers and lampchangers. The exact focusing of the bulb filament is achieved through a special FLOATEX aligning and centring system. The standard lantern is supplied with a static electronic flasher type FLCG-256 internally programmable with a micro switch and an automatic six-place lampchanger model PPC-6P. The sun switch device, assembled on the lantern base, permits lighting only by night; undue waste of energy is thereby prevented and a longer signalling lifetime with a reduc-tion of common maintenance intervention successfully obtained.
The solid lantern body allows easy installation on small floating structures like buoys, bea-cons, marine platforms and fixed construc-tions onshore.
The ES305 Marine Lantern complies with light range requirements between 8 and 12 nautical miles whereas greater ranges can be achieved with dual lanterns on fixed onshore structures.

This Compact Solar Power system has been designed for applications where a complete signalling system is required.
The system is composed of a polyethylene pyramid shell housing, suitable to contain a battery, complete with stainless steel fasten-ing bolts, solar panel and lantern.
The standard marine lantern on CSP is LED120-256 with clear acrylic cover and reinforced nylon base, fixed to the base with locking screws, but other lanterns can be used.
The internal electrical light system is com-posed of a programmable flasher, solar regulator, sunswitch, Light Emitters Diode visible at approximately 2,8 nautical miles (with LED120-256).
The power supply system is made of a sealed battery pack with minimum 10 days autonomy in case of prolonged sun absence.
The battery pack is charged by solar photovol-taic module. The standard system is supplied with four solar modules.
The Compact Solar Power signalling system can be applied on poles, docks or small buoys.

ROTATING BEACON CEE-683
FLOATEX has designed the CEE 683 rotating beacon for medium range light marking (up to 20 nm) and for operations in harsh environ-ment.
The beacon includes:
1) ELECTRONIC CONTROL CIRCUITDaylight switch controlUsing a photo resistor sensor and appropri-ate logic circuitry, it switches the beacon ON and OFF at preset ambient daylight levels.
Turntable speed controlControls the drive mechanism speed within the range 0.5 up to 10 RPM with an accuracy of ± 1%. The speed control circuit also adapts the motive force to the instant resistant torque variations of the revolving assembly.
Lamp controlThe control circuit provides the regulated power supply to the lamp and switch over the second lamp filament in case of failure of the first filament.
Control and display panelFive controls are available on a small panel located in the base, protected by a transpar-ent and removable plastic cover.- RPM speed display switch- Revolution direction selector- “Energy saving” switch- Daylight level potentiometer- Revolution speed control
Seven indicators are also provided:- Three digit speed display- High speed warning (red led)- Low speed warning (red led)- Lamp first filament in service (green led)- Lamp second filament in service (red led)- Daylight switch operation (yellow led)- Day-time rotation OFF (yellow led)- Energy saving program enabled.
These led’s provide a visual check of the beacon’s operation. All malfunctions displayed by the LEDs may also be remotely transmitted. Each led corresponds to a set of dry contacts (max. current 1 Amp) that can be used to switch any kind of buzzer, telephone or radio monitoring system.
2) GEARLESS AND BRUSHLESS TURNTABLEThe turnable consist in a light alloy flat disk bearing the optical encoder track and 56 permanent magnets providing a smooth rotation when the three fixed electromagnets installed in the basement are suitably excited. The turntable may rotate clock-wise or counter clock-wise at the user’s choice.
The revolving assembly is borne by a stainless steel shaft bearing on two high duty ball-bearings.

3) OPTICAL ARRAYMade of an octaedric cage where up to 8 flat acrylic Fresnel lenses can be mounted. The cage can accommodate blank panels and coloured filters. Any characters recom-mended by IALA can be obtained from the infinite combinations of revolution speeds and lenses/blanking panels arrangements.
4) CASINGThe beacon is contained in a waterproof casing consisting of:- GRP red octahedral basement, equipped with transparent control panel cover and socket for electrical connections (power supply, ancillary circuitry, remote control, etc.).- Acrylic transparent drum obtained through centrifugal processes (welding free).- GRP conical red cover with bird-spike.
The cover can be removed (for lamp replace-ment) without tools. The beacon is water-tight and can be installed without any other protection.

The whole has extremely reduced dimensions, which make that the flasher can be housed even in very restricted spaces.
Main characteristic of the flasher FBL-064 is the programmability of the light characteris-tics in most used sequences required by the international IALA standard norms.

This automatic lampchanger is one of the elements constituting the standard electronic system as self-contained in the FLOATEX lanterns.
This has been studied to grant maximum efficiency including for installation on buoys imposing full reliability and high resistance conditions.
The six-place PPC-6P lampchanger has been made in a strong aluminium structure for 6 place lampholding spool.
The spool can be connected with lamp connec-tion P15s with vertical prefocused filament type C8 or CC8 and bulb S8, S11 or bulb for halogen lamps and movement commanded by a solenoid/spring.
The flasher upon the circuit being interrupted by detachment of a bulb filament sends an impulse to the solenoid spring moving it one place up and so putting the next bulb in operation.
The combination of both these devices has enabled FLOATEX to bring out an electronic system for a most modern, reliable and efficient signalling therewith offering their customers the possibility of using a lighting system duly operating even under difficult environmental conditions with hardly any maintenance or attendance interventions.
This Flasher is covered by Italian and interna-tional patent.

FLOATEX Marine Lantern Bulbs have been constructed in agreement with current speci-fications ensuring a minimum 1000 hours operative lifetime.Deviations from the specified voltage alter the output light-intensity and thereby with the standard lifetime as scheduled.
The bulb filaments are spiral to reduce the cooling effect brought about by the conven-tional currents during the process of gas filling thus maintaining the filament’s optimal temperature.Some filaments have a double-serpentine shape resulting in an enlarged surface to give a major output light-intensity without increas-ing the temperature of the filament itself.This permits to increase the light ranges without no enlargement of the battery sizes.Consequently the alternative use of this type of bulb allows to maintain the required light range with reduced autonomy of the system.Single-filament bulbs can be used on our automatic standard lampchanger and most of the flashers of foreign make as their bases are standardised types recognized for marine lanterns.
Double-filament bulbs are available for instal-lations being regularly inspected and easier to approach, and for which the customer does not deem it necessary to fit an automatic lampchanger.
The special bayonet-like P15s attachment has grooves and eccentrically spaced holes to make sure that the bulb is always mounted on its own support with the filament duly aligned to the lens.Any type of marine lantern can be equipped properly and safety in this way.
Halogen lamp belong to the “incandescent” family, but they offer numerous advantages with respect to traditional bulbs: compact dimensions, high level of light efficiency, whiter light with bright tones, 2000 h life.

SPWL A - B WINKERLIGHTS FOR FLOATING HOSES
The new Solar Powered WinkerLight (SPWL), type A or B, is available in two configurations, tall and short, and has been designed as a special signalling device easy to mount on the flanges of floating sealines.
A set of opposite attachments allows to fix the lantern body to the flange of any hose diameter.
Two different models can be offered by FLOATEX the first model with high focal plane or the second model with lower focal plane.
It is up to the user to make a choice between these two types according to the distance of mooring cables floating lines in the vicinity of the installation.
An electronic circuit ensures low consump-tion even in proportion to the light range of 2 nm, whereas the use of high-thickness shot blasted and galvanized steel structure provides for suitable resistance.
The winkerlight SPWL type for floating lines basically consist of three sections:- Top steel plate complete with bow for lantern protection.- Central section ending at the top in a flange for to fit the lantern and the bottom with locking bolts which fixes bracket flange.- A special semi circular steel piece with eyelet holes and different diameters suited for the hose on which to mount the lantern, provides for connection between the lantern and the flange of the floating line to be marked.
All steel materials are shot blasted to white metal, galvanized cover and painted with grade marine paint.

The MK Omnidirectional Sound Signal is designed to meet the requirements for a marine warning signal that is audible from one half to two nautical miles.
The coding timer is controlled by a program-mable electronic circuit to allow easy field alteration of the coding characteristic. To meet IALA specifications Morse and standard codes are used.
Being DC powered, it operates with a primary and secondary battery and solar panel, while AC power operates with a battery charger.
Voltage is between 11-28 volts maintaining a constant sound level.
The signal can be switched on or off in locally or by remote control. A two hours automatic restart feature is standard to prevent signal’s switch on during maintenance.
The structure is made of marine grade aluminium fixed on the structure’s base of galvanized steel and suitable for mounting on the platform deck.
Drivers are made of plastic and sealed for a marine environment. The control box houses electronic boards and can be settled away from the main structure.

FL 892 MONITORING REMOTE CONTROL
The FL 892 Remote Control System has been designed to provide great reliability, and a simple user interface, in order to facilitate using all build-in functionalities. The entire system is made up of a Master Station (MS) and a set of Remote Station (RS).
The master station’s task is to send requested data to the remote stations, to receive files and to store all the data updates received. The MS is a Personal Computer (PC) (whit an internet connection) and it can send/receive data to each RS using radio or telephone line.
The link with the MS runs on a carrier which frequency and power are chosen according to the distance between stations and the relevant national legislation.
The RS is housed in a polyester IP66 box, able to protect its contents regardless of ruling atmospherical conditions.
The software can be adapted according to the customer’s needs. Each RS, in its basic
configuration, can monitor sixteen digital input lines, eight analog input lines and can drive eight output relays.

The FL 892 remote control system can be reached from any place in the word: all the user has to do is: take his notebook PC, connect its modem to the telephone network and dial the MS’s modem. When the connection is established, the remote user has access to all system functions, and the system’s response is displayed on the notebook display as if it was the MS’s display. RSs can work as radio bridges to let the MS reach one or more other RS out of its radio area. Each RS has a backup battery, so it can function even if the power supply is temporarily down. Main applications are: Navigation aids systems’ real time check, aqueduct watching, back-up systems, alarm system, measurement system, and many others.

BATTERY CHARGERS
Battery chargers are used to convert energy from an AC source into a DC level for stor-age in a rechargeable battery. Generally the energy is alternating current from a com-mercial source.
This energy is modified to Direct Current at the proper voltage.
The chargers are constant voltage devices which regulate the current depending on the state of charge of the battery.
As the battery discharges, more current is supplied to recharge it.
Should AC power fail, the charger won’t consume energy from the battery.
CB- series chargers are all solid state regu-lated with no moving parts. This assures full stand-by service from the battery to the load.
All components are conservatively rated and the entire charger is designed for use in the marine environment. Optional accessories include LED spy and fuses.

FL-15 SOLAR CHARGE REGULATOR
The characteristic of the charge regulator FL-15 is its low consumption of approx. 17 mA (without LED) that doesn’t influence the overall efficiency of the solar panel/battery.
A relay disconnect the photovoltaic cells when the battery tension exceed 14.5 V avoiding battery damage and reconnects them when the voltage goes below 13.3 V, ensuring the battery always being charged.
A second relay detaches the loader when the battery voltage goes below 10.5 V and con-nects it again when the voltage exceed 12.1 V.
This relay avoids damages caused by the total discharge of the battery and shortens the recharge period.
The terminal board settled on the mother board allows for easy wiring.
The 15 amps fuse protects the board from overload.
The regulator is put into a plastic watertight case IP 56 that protects the circuits from the atmospheric agents.

A many years of experience have proven the value of this type of marine signalling device. FLOATEX Elastic Beacons have numerous advantages over the traditional buoy signalling systems, such as:
ACCURACY IN SIGNALLING THE POINT TO BE MARKED.The Elastic Beacon is limited in its movements due to it’s particular structure.This ensures a remarkable accuracy in signal-ling the point to be marked when compared to the traditional chain or cable mooring system, calling for a length equal to twice or three times the water depth, which obviously leads to considerable displacements of the buoy in respect to the mooring point.
HEIGHT OF THE FOCAL PLANE.Thanks to its special configuration the Elastic Beacon offers the advantage of the marine lantern having the possibility to be positioned at a considerable height above the sea level.In normal buoys, the focal plane is much lower as the buoy usually has a very low metacentre. In very bad weather conditions, a light on an elastic beacon will always be visible between two waves, while a buoy stays invisible in a similar situation.
STABILITY.The Elastic Beacon shows characteristics of notable stability due to the vertical uplift ensured by the submerged float.The stability also translates into an advantage for maintenance operations to the appliances as these are located on a platform plane easy to approach and which can be moved by the operator.

FLOATEX ELASTIC BEACON
THE ELASTIC BEACON CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS:- Shot blasted and galvanized tubular steel structure.- Rotomoulded polyethylene full filled by polyurethane foam.- Tower for signalling.- Elastic joint for mooring to the sinker.- Shackle joint.
FLOATEX advises to use this structure for water depths from minimum 18 m to maximum 50 m, and keeps at customers’ disposal mathematic calculations of the dynamic behaviour of the beacon, guided by the necessary meteorological marine conditions previously supplied.This calculation program shows the maxi-mum angle of heeling expected to occur under the worst conditions prevailing at site, the periods of oscillation and the mini-mum distance at which the top platform is found to be located in respect to the sea level.FLOATEX Elastic Beacon is the best naviga-tion system for marking canals, dredged areas, harbour entrances, etc.
FLOATEX has patented the special system of mooring by elastic tubular rubber joint, which besides effecting a notable elasticity, ensures the absorption of any vibrations to which the system may be subjected, making it electrically insulated.Elastic Beacons can be connected with main power as they don’t rotate.
For major mooring guarantee, a steel cable connecting the tubular section to the sinker runs inside through this tube.

The FLOATEX buoy type SIG40 belongs to the ultimate generation of navigational aids. The necessity of lowering as much as pos-sible costly maintenance programs, typical of steel buoys, as well as the need to realize environmental friendly products to avoid nega-tive ecological ambient impact from waste materials coming out on steel buoy regen-eration (such as old paint, zinc coating and sandblasting) inspired FLOATEX to develop and realize the SIG40 buoy. The buoy body is realised in PE by rotational moulding system. The unsinkability of the buoy is obtained with the latest FLOATEX foam filling technique by recyclable 100% close cell expanded floating foam. The colour of the buoy is not obtained by painting but is embedded in the plastic so that no painting is necessary for almost the whole buoy life span.The design of the buoy and the combination of the materials utilised allows the FLOATEX buoy type SIG40 to be installed almost everywhere: open sea, sheltered areas as well as channels.Metal parts (top mark/passive radar reflec-tor) are made of marine grade aluminium.The buoy body type SIG40 has a good resist-ance to shocks and in case of breakages, although safely foam filled, all buoy compo-nents can be very easily repaired utilising a ‘’no flame’’ welding technique.The 455 mm diameter of the buoy as well as the achieved stability may give a focal plane height varying from 1.5 to 2.5 m. The series PL buoys with small body diameter are considered to be the most versatile of the whole range in as much as offering good stability and resistance with comparatively reduced dimensions.
They can be anchored in open sea for applica-tions requiring a focal plane of less than 2 meters from the sea-level.
PL buoys can be provided with an ES60 or ES155 marine lantern to achieve light ranges between 1 and 3 nautical miles.
The steel superstructure allows for easy installation of solar panels and rechargeable batteries to make this signalling buoy self-supporting for energy.
Visibility during the day time is ensured through a metal day-mark, positioned on top of the tower with provisions by special construction arrangements for passive radaring, following IALA specifications.

1200 GS LIGHT BUOYS
The buoys with a 1200 mm body diameter are considered to be the most versatile of the whole range offering stability and resistance with comparatively reduced dimensions.

The 1200 GS is a buoy qualified for marine lanterns with 155 mm diameter dioptric drum lenses, giving light ranges between 3 and 6 nautical miles.
The angular steel superstructure allows easy installation of solar panels, making this signal-ling device self-supporting with regards to energy.At the upper part a battery pack can be installed, which also holds a regulator in the event of any solar panel energy feeding.
The final treatment, of FLOATEX product , consist of shot blasting to metal, galvanising the complete system and subsequent painting in IALA colours by means of polyurethane marine paint.
To guarantee unsinkability, the buoy body is filled with expanded floating foam.

The central structure is a polyethylene tube that connect every part of the buoy: floats, counterbalance and the superior part. The length of the central structure can be varied, so the focal plain and the stability can change slightly.
A big "CUBE" increases the visibility of buoy MPE 2200 and ensures the accession to the marine lantern.
The buoy, normally, has a CSP (Compact Solar Power) system and a LED 120-256. Other signalling systems as well can be used.
The buoy type MPE 2200 has been designed to work in open sea with a relative high focal plane and relative big water depth.
The buoy, almost in plastic materials, permit a very limited maintenance. Utilization of solar panels and LEDs ensure extended operating electrical system.
Easy-handling provisions has been made by two lifting eyes on top of the floats. Another two eyes are fixed onto the lower section of the floats for attachment to the mooring sling.

MPE 3000 LIGHT BUOY
The MPE 3000 Buoy is formed by a floating body composed of 4 polyethylene rotomoulded shells filled with rigid polyurethane foam, to guarantee unsinkability in case of damages, and by a central metal structure suitable to fix shells and the mooring system.
The MPE 3000 Buoy, designed for heavy-duty work in open sea conditions and at consider-able depths offers properties of great stability and resistance.
The standard type allows an ES250 marine lantern with 250 mm diameter lens to be mounted on a large size angular steel tower to give a light range of 10 nautical miles.
They are prepared for the use of large solar panels and can hold an active radar reflector (racon) wireless control system.
FLOATEX designed the MPE 3000 buoys in such a way that they can be disassembled into their main components, being cylindrical body, a tower and a counterweight.
Regarding the counterweight FLOATEX worked out a dismountable half-ring system capable of adjusting the draught of the buoy to the mooring weight expected to be applied making it possible for the buoy to be easily repositioned by adapting to the total weight to the diameter of the chain and the depth of the mooring point.
Easy-handling provisions has been made by two lifting eyes on top of the cylindrical body and at the tail of the counterweight. Another two eyes are fixed onto the lower section of the buoy for attachment to the mooring sling.

To facilitate the landing and approach to any type of ports, FLOATEX is involved, over many years, in the design and in the manufacture of a wide range of lattice tower, beacon and structure for navigation lightening systems.
For installations, especially in hard places, where normal cranes can't work, FLOATEX builds these signalling type.For this reason Floatex take really in consid-eration the weight and the soundness.
The beacon tower type TPB are built with modular fibreglass elements of various heights up to arrive to requested focal plane.
The minimum high is 4.5 meters at the balus-trade while the maximum high is 15 meters.
The tower include:a) One base element with internal place to hold power supply equipment: batteries, batteries charge, control panels etc. This element is equipped with a pad locking door wave resistant.b) One or more intermediate modules or elements conical or cylindrical in relation of the tower high.c) A top platform with balustrade and walk way for marine lantern installation and main-tenance.d) Internal aluminium ladder.

PETB BEACON
FLOATEX PETB beacon is the solution to locate very shining daytime signalling everywhere: light is a strong point of this tower.
With modules made in rotomoulded PE we can build towers with different height to change focal plane. Module’s base is 0,86 m approx. and its height is 2,2 m as shown in figure in next page.
Normally, PETB beacons are equipped with CSP-410 solar system and LED155-BL Marine Lantern, but can be installed other power or signalling systems. Upon request can be installed top marks and boards.
Lighting equipment can be reached easily with a scale, according to security provisions.
One foundation frame into concrete founda-tion base ensure to mount with no trouble the tower.
External armature ensure resistance even where wind and wave are very strong.

The new generation of FLOATEX pick-up buoys have been designed to withstand the severe conditions associated with offshore opera-tions.

POLYETHYLENE EXPANDED BUOY
Floats are high-quality buoys designed expressly for a marine environment.
The inner core of the floats is filled with a non-water absorbing closed-cell foam. This material is a rigid foam which permits the buoys to retain buoyancy even if submerged. The high quality buoys outer foam layer is semi-flexible and is specifically designed to absorb impacts. The foam is covered by a thick layer of reinforced elastomer specifically formulated for wear and abrasion resistance and for use in a marine environment. A heavy-wall steel pipe through the axis of the floats provides a high pull through load capability.

All FLOATEX cylindrical, supporting and moor-ing buoys have been designed to withstand the severe operating conditions associated with offshore operations.
To achieve these characteristics the inner buoyancy core is realized applying spiral bending sheets of expanded cross-linked polyethylene.
The full closed-cell expanded Polyethylene used, guarantees the unsinkability of the buoy, also in case of accidental serious damages occurred during operations.
The outer Polyurethane skin provides the necessary abrasion and ultra-violet rays resistance to the buoy.
Standard outer colour is marine orange, but if requested, buoys can be manufactured in different colours.

ANCHOR PENNANT BUOYS
This special type of buoy are produced by FLOATEX with the specific intent to provide a high degree of energy absorption and high resilience.
The general construction scheme consists of a central galvanized steel structure, a expanded rigid core, laminated resistant expanded PE around the inner core and a final elastomer PU cover. The outer elastomer cover will, in some cases, be reinforced by the application of special yarns blended into the layer, insuring a higher tear strength to the outer protective skin.
The heavy operating conditions foreseen for this type of buoy, can occasionally cause damages to the outer cover and to the float-ing expanded material. FLOATEX welcomes requests of repair on site, having developed a special portable equipment to regenerate damaged urethane covers and replace parts of broken expanded material.

FLOATEX is specialised in production of Modular Buoys. The production of this type of buoys is based on our special know-how and technology. Therefore, we are able to offer a greater variety of sizes and dimensions for those models.
The FLOATEX MODULAR BUOYS are built for all offshore applications as oil rigs, supply vessels and other applications.
The Modular buoys are built up of interchange-able modules of plastic materials.
The materials used are sintermoulded cross-linked polyethylene and filled by polyurethane closed cell foam as core.
Modular Buoys range from a minimum 0,5 tons buoyancy up to any customers require-ments.

CATAMARAN MOORING BUOY CAT 43/50
The CAT 43/50 is one of the giant buoy for mooring systems. This mooring buoy is designed for most of mooring projects.
These mooring buoys are built with inter-changeable modules that are suitable to be transported and shipped into containers to reduce logistic problems.
We can also mount more modules to change the buoyancy and consequently the high of the floats.
The floats used for this buoy are made with rotomoulded polyethylene shells filled with polyurethane foam.
The metallic structure is made in galvanized steel, and has the important duty to support the modular floats and release the mooring hooks.

HINGED BOLTED FLOATS
FLOATEX HINGED-BOLTED FLOATS are designed to provide buoyancy to submarine hose systems in order to maintain the required configuration.
The float consists two halves bolted together at one side, and hinged at the other one. The outer shell is obtained by means of a rotomoulding system, using high impact resist-ant polyethylene, orange coloured for surface use, and white coloured for underwater use.
The outer shell design allows also allows external steel or synthetic bands fastening if required, and the outer grooves give extra strength to the steel structure.
Special care is given to the filling of the float, applied by a computer controlled injection filling machine.
The material used is rigid monocellular PU foam and its density is determined by the operational depth of the floats.
Each float is clearly marked and registered as per required inspection procedure. Metal parts are realized in AISI 316 stainless steel, and the installation of the floats is very easy, also while the hose are under the water level.
Floats are duly tested following our Quality Control procedures, as per OCIMF specifica-tions and requirements, and Test Certificates are issued after the satisfactory results.
Upon customer ‘s request, our floats can also be inspected by Qualified Inspection Agencies, such as Lloyd Register of Shipping, A.B.S., R.I.N.A., Bureau Veritas, etc.

BEAD FLOATS AND INTEGRAL FLOATATION
Bead or ring floats and integral flotation for oil suction and discharge hoses have been in FLOATEX production program for a long time.
The ring floats are made of expanded cross-linked closed cell polyethylene foam, covered and protected by a layer of compact elastic polyurethane elastomer.
This flotation system is particularly useful for the application on gas-transport rubber hoses, allowing a high percentage of the hose outer surface to remain free for the natural gas transpiration through the rubber.
Rubber hose manufacturer’s requirements are enthusiastic about the application of ring floats, as FLOATEX is capable to fit all sizes, having a complete hose mandril set and a specific equipment for this type of work.
The same technology adopted to apply an integral flotation on O.S. & D. hoses has been successfully used for the rebuilding and repair of used oil hoses. This application can be of value to dredging industry.

Oil hose manufacturers and Oil terminals often refer to FLOATEX for the production and assembling of the various ancillary elements necessary to complete hoses strings for Single point Mooring System (S.P.M.).
Items like butterfly valves, Camlock coupling, ropes etc. not produced by FLOATEX are collected and then assembled with in house produced pick-up buoys, mooring buoys, blind flanges, winkerlights, diverters, etc.

FLOATING REDUCER AND “Y” PIECES
FLOATEX produces a full range of “Y” pieces and reducers for floating O.S. and D hoses strings, starting from 6’ inner diameter up to a 24”. The inner structure is made of galvanized steel while the outer floating body is made of expanded cross-linked polyethylene foam covered by a layer of elastomeric high impact resistant urethane. Floats can be realised in two different types of material:Elastic closed-cell Polyethylene with external Elastomer Polyurethane cover, or Rotationally moulded Polyethylene shell filled with expanded closed cell foam.
Floats produced with these materials have more energy absorption capacity then fibre-glass or steel floats and are easily reparable.

EXPANDED POLYETHYLENE FENDERS
The FLOATEX expanded foam fenders have been developed to provide for maximum pro-tection from damage by crushing apt to occur when operating under extremely difficult con-ditions such as side-by-side moorings in open sea or for cushioning off-shore oil platforms.
What these fenders offer in comparison with the alternative pneumatic rubber ones are the advantages of a major shock-absorbing capac-ity, a much more contained reaction force and full unsinkability.
The specific structure, being expanded foam covered with a relevant layer of polyurethane elastomer, for high abrasion resistance, requires a reduced turn off of interventions for maintenance.
A further asset is the use of different densities of expanded polyethylene for the core which enables FLOATEX to adjust the characteristics of energy absorption and reaction force to the specific technical requirements of individual circumstances.
The diagram below shows the behaviour of the expanded polyethylene when subject to compression and gives evidence of the very high performances offered by this product.
FLOATEX is also in a position to offer fenders shaped to customers’ specification, having available in-house the special equipment needed to manufacture pieces of different and complicated shapes.
Among the particular applications expected to occur are protection of mooring wharfs, vessels with special elements or parts to be cushioned, protection of lock entrances etc.
The cylindrical standard type of fenders are manufactured with an expanded polyethylene core wrapped up in overlapping and crossing layers, with a final covering of self pigmented polyurethane elastomer.
This type of construction ensures a notable resistance and reduces the frequent and burdensome number of interventions to a minimum.
According to customers’ requirements FLOATEX offers different types of attach-ment for their fenders: steel tube for mooring with heavy chain, with shackles, with flanges and double mooring eye.

HAWSERS FLOTATION COLLAR
The FLOATEX lace-on rope flotation collar in an easy to handle rope buoyancy aid, designed to suit the complete range of mooring haw-sers. Available for both single and doubled (grommet) mooring hawsers.
The floatation collar is composed of a support cloth in polyester with high resistance to wear and tearing, covered with PVC stabilised to light and treated to be class 2 flame resistant.
Floating of the hawser collar is obtained by polyethylene foam strips inserted directly in prepared pockets of the flotation collar sleaves. The minimum buoyancy reserve obtained on 1 meter length of sleeve is 15 Kg.
The length and the buoyancy can be modified on client request.

The FLOATEX provide also the construction of particular Tubular floats utilized on the hawsers to increase their life-span in excess of 12 months.
The tubular floats are composed of a polyethylene foam as core and orange polyu-rethane as skin.

SPECIAL SUPPORTING FLOATS
FLOATEX has been requested to design and produce a special float to support steel pipes during launching operations.
This type of float is used to break down the immersion velocity, to avoid bendings over the designed limits of sealine pipes.
Fastened to the pipe by two bands (steel cable or nylon straps), the floats will be released by divers or by automatic self-releasing system allowing the buoyant element to recover the sea surface.
Particular attention has been given during the design to produce elements with dimensions to fit perfectly in a container to keep transport cost as low as possible.
Made of a hard polyethylene outer shell, these floats are filled with PU expanded rigid foams adjusted to guarantee an adequate resistance to the water depths foreseen for installation.

TPR OIL BOOM
TPR series Floatex oil booms, realised in standard length of 25,0 meters each with total height of 1,0 meter of which 0,3 m approx. freeboard and 0,7 m approx. immersed, are suitable for use as permanent oil boom in exposed areas.
The oil boom is composed by a support cloth in polyester with high resistance to tear and tearing, covered with PVC stabilised to the light and treated to be flame resistant follow-ing class 2.
Floating of the barrier is obtained by the application of special horizontally fixed floats giving the oil boom a buoyancy of approx. 30 Kg/m.
Floats are realised in two halves made in lin-ear medium density rotomoulded polyethylene shells, filled with rigid closed cell expanded polyurethane.
These floats are applied to the sheet by means of stainless steel bolts, to permit easy disassembly if damaged parts must be replaced, and also to permits a more rational transport and storage.
The lower part of the sheet submerged is ballasted with lead loads applied by means of stainless steel bolts, to guaranty the verticality and stability to the boom.
The connection of various elements is realised using suitable quick hooks in stainless steel applied to the cloth by means of stainless steel bolts.
Assembling operations are easily made directly on site by means of only two keys for closing of bolts.
The dimensions of TPR oil boom listed in the accompanying table are indicative and FLOATEX can produce special sizes to meet customer specifications.

FLOATING BARRIER REEL TYPE SERIES PBAV
The FLOATEX anti-pollution barriers of the PBAV series are designed for temporary open-sea installation in long continuous lines.
The barrier is constructed of a PVC cov-ered material with high resistance to tearing, marine agents, ultraviolet light and a large range of pollutants. Floatation is provided by specially designed elements of closed cell expanded Polyurethane.
The floatation modules, with moulded-in bal-last, are fitted into vertical pockets in the skirt, their rigidity ensuring the vertical stability of the barrier.
This construction has permitted FLOATEX to realize an extremely compact streamlined barrier with no external elements which may be torn off during installation or form propaga-tion points for marine organism growth. The thickness of the skirt material and the quick release connection system in stainless steel between sections ensures a high tension resistance.
If required, FLOATEX will supply a mechani-cal reeling system for barrier storage, dimensioned to suit the barrier length in question. The reel, constructed in gal-vanized steel, may be powered with an all electric system or electro-hydraulic system.
The dimensions of the PBAV series, listed in the accompanying table, indicate the extreme versatility of the barrier, which may be launched from a wharf, tug boat or antipollution vessel for emergency pol-lution containment, or can be employed as a fixed barrier with minor modifications.

MONIT-MED
The system consist in an offshore station for automatic data collection installed on elastic beacons. The platform provides real surveil-lance both in case of accidental pollution (rapid evolution of the phenomena) making oceanographic and meteo data instantly available. Monit-Med can be installed in open sea on 18 up to 100 m of water depth; the power shall be provide by photovoltaic cells. The mechanic characteristics of the Monit-Med (MEDA) allows for on-site positioning of different instruments for the monitoring of ecological and oceanographic parameters or for area surveillance; Additionally, it is possible to install a TV or Infrared (IR) camera for surveillance of the marine area or the nearby coast (fire alert) A dedicated on-board computer provides automatic management of the sensors package for sampling at different depths and for data collection and processing, checking for chlorophyll in the eutrophic or hypertrophic areas (chronic pollution) or for accidental environmental pollution. A GPS will also be installed, and for data transmission a GSM system can be used.
METEOMARINE MONITORING SYSTEMSTo realize the data acquisition systems, FLOATEX have selected and widely tested a broad range of instruments to guarantee long efficiency and uniform reliability of measure-ments combined with reduced maintenance. Several type of sensors are available, each of superior quality, to be able to meet all customer requirements. FLOATEX is leader in the production of oceanographic buoys and seamarks and can supply complete monitor-ing systems for marine environments.
FLOATEX is available to study and realize systems for every field of application where data acquisition and process control are the solution of customer’s needs.

FLOATING: RAFTS - PONTOONS - QUAYS
Utilizing floating elements of the FLOATEX products range, floating structures for various applications can be manufactured to client specifications in order to solve any problems in designing and positioning these structures, FLOATEX can offer their technical and practi-cal experience to ensure full functionality of the installation.
Most common structures are Floating farms for fish breeding, landing sites for pleasure-craft; platforms and floating rafts; platforms for suction and water pumping stations.
The floating pontoons of various lengths are generally composed of a hot -dipped galva-nized steel frame structure, and buoyancy is ensured by rotationally moulded PE floats which are filled with expanded polyurethane to guarantee unsinkability.
The modules can be fastened together by means of hot-dipped galvanized steel hinges, or by blocks of anti-abrasion and no-noise elastomer polyurethane.

Making use of the most appropriate floating elements within the wide range of own produc-tion, FLOATEX realizes floating constructions for various kinds of use, among which: Floating farms for fish breeding; Landing-places for pleasure-craft; Platforms and floating drafts; Platforms for suction and pumping of water.

All Floatex products are designed and manufactured under quality system in accordance with ISO 9001. Floatex is recognised as international leader in the design and production of buoyancy material equipment for all applications from seawater surface up to ocean depth. The quality system applies to, and interacts
with, all activities pertinent to the quality of the products, to satisfy our clients as Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Environmental, Ministry of Transport, major off-shore oil companies and their associated suppliers, Netherlands D.G.S.M. and all fishing companies.
Accreditations to ISO 9001 records that management proce-dures have been established and are followed to ensure consistent product quality. Floatex recognises
that its customers require high value for money quality and is not content simply maintaining accreditation to ISO 9001 but continually seeks to improve. Floatex has an independent quality department that follows Quality Assurance and Quality Control step by step.
QUALITY ASSURANCE:The quality assurance adheres to the formal Quality System to UNI EN ISO 9001.2000. All interfaces with other departments are through written procedure of which the Quality Assurance Department holds all master copies. All departments are regu-larly audited to ensure that their procedures are being adhered to. Any non-compliance found during audits is formally recorded and remedial action must be taken to ensure that the problem is corrected and cannot recur. All amendments to procedures are documented and have to be authorised by the Quality Assurance manager prior to implementation.
QUALITY CONTROL:Moreover, FLOATEX offers their customers an internal quality control service for major guarantee of the final product and the quality control service avails itself of the in-house fully equipped laboratory facility making out test certificate to be released to the customer.
In order to insure a constant good quality of its products, Floatex effects a series of Quality Tests on the raw materials, to certify the conformity to the required Standards. These tests are made, for plastic materials, directly in Floatex’s laboratory, while for the steel materials we rely on an external test bed an the Mill Certificate that are required of the steel suppliers.

TYSTEEL MATERIALS
Parts subject to tensile stress work, i.e. the central tie rod of the chain support buoys and pick up buoys are Released on the Mill Certificate of the steelworks, in conformity with international material standard.
PLASTIC PARTS TEST
ELASTOMER POLYURETHANECompact flexible material with high tear, high abrasion resist-ance and great elasticity. The high elasticity and the high resist-ance to U.V. Rays and to hydrolysis makes this material ideal for the cover of all manufactured articles, giving resistance to the expanded products
TYPICAL APPLICATIONSCasing material for buoys, fenders, hoses and floats.
CHARACTERISTICSThe below mentioned tests are effected on polyurethane sam-ples, prepared during the covering of the buoy and reticulated in a room temperature for 24 hours and then put in an oven with 110°C. for 2 hours. To simulate the behaviour of the polyurethane in sea water, the same tests are repeated on material samples subjected to hydrolysis for 7 days with temperature 70°C. in water with a NaCl content of 3%. When this period is finished, the values resulting from the tests, must not suffer losses more than 20% in respect to the values obtained on the sample tested before the hydrolysis test.

EXPANDED POLYETHYLENESoft flexible expanded chemically inert mate-rial. Available in slabs and strips to be welded together so as to provide finished products of large sizes. Several densities from 25 to 180 kg/m3 with characteristics of strong resiliency and absolutely waterproof.

TYEXPANDED POLYURETHANEExpanded rigid material with close-cell-percentage varying according to density.Mixing up two liquid compounds in free or controlled expansion with densities varying from 35 to 500 Kg/m3 produces it.Expanded polyurethane mixed with special spheres can reach 1000 m water depth.
