There’s a bear on my chair Written & Illustrated by: Ross Collins Poor Mouse! A bear has settled in his favorite chair, and that chair just isn’t big enough for two. Mouse tries all kinds of tactics to move pesky Bear, but nothing works.

Author/Illustrator Website: http://rosscollins.net/Book Trailer/Author interview: Author reading the story: http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=there%27s+a+bear+on+my+chair&view=detail&mid=202FEC9E2A010FA2BCBC202FEC9E2A010FA2BCBC&FORM=VIRE Food: Pear Nonfiction Title: Marsh, Laura , Polar Bears. Desmond, Jenni The Polar Bear. Curtis, Jennifer Keats, Kali’s Story, An Orphaned Polar Bear Rescue.

Introduction: Put a stuffed polar bear on your reading chair before the kids enter and act surprised that the bear is there (or give one student a bear mask and instruct them to sit on your chair).

Story time Activities: Make a book of rhyming “ar” words. Practice retelling the story, have one student be the mouse and one student be the bear. Use masks or puppets. Make a rhyming pair following the same pattern. There’s a —— on my ——-. (a hog on my dog) Give kids an outline of the bear and have them draw a costume on the bear (dressed with flair). Create a paper plate Polar Bear and Mouse.

Discussion Questions: 1. Show me what a nasty glare looks like. 2. Why did the mouse have to give the bear a nasty glare? 3. Who is the bear impersonating? 4. How could we help endangered polar bears? 5. How would you get the bear to move?
