    Community Announcements

Dear Chatt Hills Community,Ever wonder what Ron is up to after spending 40+ years at The Simblist Group? Well, here is the answer. Sandy and I have been fortunate enough to be able to travel to visit family, friends and places we never really had the ability to visit in the past. And even more exciting for me — I fulfilled a life-long passion by creating a music program called CHATT HILLS MUSIC to our community in the countryside outside of Atlanta. At any show, you might enjoy Americana, singer/songwriter, jazz, rock or classical music! CHATT HILLS MUSIC is a non-profit arts organization that presents diverse music and creates arts education opportunities for kids at Acton Academy at Serenbe and more schools in 2019. We also partner with The Atlanta Jazz Festival, the Serenbe Institute of Arts and Culture bringing the joys of music to Grady Hospital Cancer Center and Marta West End. We also program music for the City of Chattahoochee Hills and continue to inspire new partners and opportunities to share the benefits of music.

DONATE FOR GREAT MUSICBringing Music from All Genres to Schools and Community. Chatt Hills Music and the Serenbe community put artists on a platform. They believe it to be as important as any other form of education for the children and community. We applaud them and encourage everyone to support and share this philosophy with as many people as possible.” Savana Lee, Willie Sugarcapps

“Chatt hills music house concert series is a gig any artist should feel lucky to do. It’s not often that the environment/atmosphere is conducive to a bit ofstorytelling in addition to performance.”

    — Shana Tucker

As a touring musician, playing Chatt Hills Music feels like coming home. The hosts treat you like family, and the audience listens to every note. It’s been a treat to be part of such a special series.” — Liz Longley

“I had the pure joy of working with Ron at Chatt Hills Music. The audience was so attentive and inspiring, I’d come back anytime!”

    — Sarah Potenza “Chatt Hills Music needs financial support to keep the music in our community, school, and partner locations and to keep our shows awesome for our patrons. After your donation, you will receive our heartfelt thanks and an official letter for your tax records. Thank you for considering this request and please be sure to fill me in on what you are up to!” RON DID YOU KNOW?Chatt Hills Music is a registered 501c3 non-profit and all of your donations of any size are fully tax-deductible.We have added a page on our website to make it easy for you to make any donation large or small CLICK HERE. Community AnnouncementsSerenbe Playhouse Announces Tenth Anniversary Season

    SEASON X: AMERICA

Atlanta (November 2018) – Serenbe Playhouse, named one of the Top 20 theatres in the nation by Playbill and recipient of the prestigious American Theatre Wing grant, is thrilled to announce its Tenth Anniversary Season!

From Artistic/ Executive Director and Founder Brian Clowdus: For our Tenth Anniversary, SEASON X: AMERICA, we will be returning to our roots with stories that will shake to the core and speak to our past, present, and future. This will be our boldest and most ambitious season to date with 3 full scale, larger than life Broadway musicals and a world premiere adaptation in our 6 show season. In a time where the country remains divided, I look forward to celebrating our Tenth Anniversary Season with stories that examine our similarities rather than our differences... after all, we can never go back to before, and it’s time to truly let the sun shine!

SHENANDOAH (March 13-April 7, 2019): The musical story of one family’s struggle during the American Civil War will come alive in a site-specific, immersive new production. Their personal story of heartbreak and ultimately hope amidst tragedy will be staged alongside an actual Civil War reenactment to bring this personal story to life like never before.

RAGTIME (May 8- June 9, 2019): The Tony Award-winning musical based on E.L. Doctorow’s acclaimed novel of the same name, is a picture of this nation’s hopes and pains as we entered the Twentieth Century. Telling the diverse stories of African Americans, immigrants, and the elite upper-class, with a mix of real-life historical figures, it paints a canvas of a country on the verge of a new era.

HAIR: THE AMERICAN TRIBAL LOVE-ROCK MUSICAL (July 3- August 18, 2019): For our Tenth Anniversary Season, we will revive the Tony-winning rock musical in a brand new, larger than life production. During Season Four, Hair was a game-changing show for Serenbe Playhouse, and there is no better time to revive it than in 2019 with the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock!

POCAHONTAS (June 13 – August 4, 2019): This world premiere adaptation of Pocahontas will be brought to life in a new version by Native American playwright, Kara Morrison. Want to experience the story like never before? Come along as we journey through the forest where we’ll find Pocahontas, as she awaits to share the tale of her beautiful, beloved homeland. Join us for an authentic take on the story of America’s original heroine.

TICKETSSeason Tickets for Season X will be on sale Monday, November 26, 2019, available on our website at www.serenbeplayhouse.com or by calling our box office at (770) 463-1110. Single tickets will be on sale at a later date to be announced.

Chattahoochee Hills Attends Statewide Course on Balancing Nature and Commerce in Rural Communities and LandscapesRepresentatives develop action plan to improve small-town economic competitiveness by capitalizing on the state’s natural and cultural assets Chattahoochee Hills, GA (November 7, 2018) – A team from Chattahoochee Hills participated in a three-day course designed especially for Georgia’s small communities seeking to differentiate their communities based upon their natural and cultural assets. Working with national and regional experts on sustainable tourism, economic development, natural and cultural resources, transportation and branding, the 8-person team crafted a new vision that focuses on the unique assets that make Chattahoochee Hills a more appealing place to live, work and recreate. This vision will be revealed to the City Council on Thursday, November 8th, 2018. This first statewide course in Georgia was hosted by the City of Porterdale, Georgia at its historic Mill at Yellow River. The Conservation Fund designed and delivered the program, attracting teams from across Georgia. Nine communities were selected to participate in the program. Each formed a diverse team that included business and tourism representatives, elected officials, civic leaders, public land managers and engaged citizens, and crafted an action plan to implement within their community. Those representing Chattahoochee Hills were Parks Commission Chair Diana Wilson, Councilmembers Claire Williams and Alan Merrill, Planning Commission members Patrick Johnson and Jett Hattaway, Allison Duncan (Atlanta Regional Commission), City Planner Mike Morton, and City Manager Robbie Rokovitz. The city of Porterdale provided the vision for holding the course, inspired by the city’s participation in the 2017 national Balancing Nature and Commerce workshop. In partnership with The Conservation Fund, the program was funded through the generosity of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta with additional contributions

partners, including the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Georgia Department of Economic Development and Georgia Municipal Association. “The partnership with Chattahoochee Hills was an ideal candidate for this program due to their strong ties throughout the community and their passion for protecting and enhancing the area’s natural and cultural resources,” said Katie Allen, Director of The Conservation Fund’s Conservation Leadership Network. “It’s our goal to help communities foster valuable partnerships, reinforce development plans that balance environmental and economic goals and provide technical assistance to enable places like Chattahoochee Hills to thrive.”

NEW DEVELOPMENTHeatherwood has begun pulling permits to start developing their lots off Cedar Grove Road. It’s nice to see a dead subdivision getting a second chance of providing some new homes for some new Chattahoochee Hills residents.

RTP Grant Reimbursement Good news; Thanks to Diana Wilson’s reporting, we received the RTP reimbursement check for $72,999.04. This helped reimburse the City for the expenses associated with the new bridge at Cochran Mill Park. It really in an understatement how awesome having this bridge in place is. I continue to receive positive comments from people.

Dear Supporter of Chatt Hills Parks,

Thank you for obtaining your “Resident” Parking Decal for 2018. Even though these decals were free to city residents, many of you made financial donations. Those funds went directly to the Parks and are being used to improve and enhance our parks. Extra “thanks” to you guys.

From May 1, 2013 when the Parking Fee Program began until now, over $234,700 has been collected. This is from Non-Resident Annual Passes, Daily Parking Fees and donations made by city residents. These funds have been used to enhance and improve the parks.

We are gearing up for 2019. We hope you will get your new, complimentary pass and use it to park free-of-charge at Cochran Mill and Hutcheson Ferry Parks.

Enclosed is a form for you to fill out. Please fill out and return the form to City Hall. You can pick up your decal in person or one will be mailed to you.

The Parks Commission, volunteers with a great interest in our Parks, has worked hard the last six years for what we consider the crown jewels of this area. We are always open to listening to your suggestions on what can make our Parks even better.

Again, thank you for your support and be sure and order your 2019 decal now!

    Chatt Hills Charter School

I’m Alan Merrill, a member of City Council of Chattahoochee Hills. On behalf of City government, I bring you warm greetings. It is our pleasure to join with you in this celebration.

The Lovett Building represents an important milestone for CHCS, the completion of building the best campus the founders could imagine for you scholars. This achievement is the result of the work of more people that I could ever list.

Yet one man did more than his share to get this land donated, to gather loans and financial donations to build your classrooms, to see that each step in the six year effort went according to plan, and to see this physical campus become a reality. He dedicated many hours to CHCS while creating and presiding over a thriving manufacturing business and being Mayor of the City. Tom Reed regrets that he can’t be with us today, but we owe him our heartfelt gratitude for his sacrifices, persistence and energy.

The man we honor today and everyday is Judge Willie Lovett. His spirit is here. I sense his smile, his gratitude to God and his humility at being honored by the naming of this handsome building.

Scholars, let this building be a constant reminder of three things:1. This building, this campus, this charter school exist

    because people, your parents and many people you will never see or meet, care about you;

    2. This building exists because a large community of people gave of themselves because they believe in you and your potential to contribute to making the world a better place; and

    3. Willie Lovett and the citizens of Chattahoochee Hills practice a long-standing rural tradition: neighbors helping neighbors, and we want you carry on this tradition of being a neighbor.

We care about you, we believe in you, and we want you to be a neighbor.

And now it is my pleasure to introduce Cathy Kimbrel, grandmother of a scholar and volunteer extraordinaire.
