through the guidance of the assigned Assistant Governor. RCMO, being part of Cluster 4 under Assistant Governor Ricky Santos of RC Makati EDSA, prepared an audiovisual presentation of the seven clubs under it. President Wilbert, who is an IT professional himself, personally prepared RCMO's segment. Asked how the Midyear Review impacted on him, President Wilbert said that "it made me really proud to stand tall amongst everyone in the district to show how well we had done the past six months". On a personal level, he said that he had learned many things which his presidency had taught him especially on the many personal potentials which were harnessed because of said position. Host Club, Rotary Club of Makati San Lorenzo designed the Midyear Review patterned on the Japanese style of RI President Sakuji. It was set on the Japanese legend that anyone who folds a thousand paper cranes pleases the gods and his/her wish is granted. The gods must be very pleased with RCMO for as President Wilbert said, "the club's goals and aspirations have already been made a reality much more than it

had wished for."

Dental Mission with RC Marilao and Kindness in Action Held

RC Marilao with the Inner Wheel of Marilao worked with Marilao Central School for the first two days of the mission which had 400 school children as the beneficiaries. For this, RCMO joined the officers and members of the matched club in keeping order in the flow of patients, translating Filipino to English for the Canadian dentists so they will get understood by the patients and encouraging them so they will not be afraid to undergo dental treatment. On the third day, the dental mission will go to Meycauayan, where another 200 children will be treated. This will be done with the LGU of Meycauayan. On the fourth and fifth day, they will proceed to Dumaguete and have 400 children beneficiaries treated. This is an annual activity of RC Marilao which RCMO always participates in. Pres. Wilbert and Dir. Ju took this opportunity to have fellowship with the matched club. They agreed that next year, a day of the dental mission will be done for the chosen beneficiaries of RCMO in Metro Manila. RCMO in turn promised to support an adopted school of RC Marilao which has been devastated by Habagat. Books will be given to them as a new library is being built for them.

January 2013 THE OLYMPIANS 3

After a most memorable Christmas get-together, Rotary Club of Makati Olympia held another unforgettable fellowship last January 16. It was a roadtrip fellowship to Tagaytay. There was no itinerary made and the plan was simple. The 'caravan' went where it pleased. By mid-day, the officers and members converged at Makati Sports Club and set on a journey of bonding and fellowship. The car ride was smooth and in the tradition of the Olympians, food and drinks were a plenty. Each car had its own little commissary of finger foods and sweets. Through PP Ting Almendral's suggestion, everyone acceded to take a look at Barangay Iruhin. He described it as a quaint place just overlooking the famous Taal Lake. Excitement mounted. It was quite out of the way than the most places visited in Tagaytay but it led to 8 Suites, a beautiful and peaceful place for relaxation. On arrival, everyone was greeted with the most welcoming staff and after the first round of picture taking, a guided tour of the facilities was done. As if to add to the relaxing ambiance of the place, the overcast sky brought about a cool and windy afternoon which made possible a trek to the nearby pineapple plantation. It was a lucky coincidence that, the trip was done a day before the harvest. Because of this, the Olympian family was able to commune with the plantation

workers. They were taught how to identify the fruits

which were ready for picking and how one can tell if they are sweet or not. Pres. Wilbert Zamuco, CP Rose Acoba, Dir. Ju Abdulcadir and Rtr. Joel Advincula dared had fun in joining the workers to pick the ripe fruits. Exhilarated by the little adventure, the group rejoined PP Ting, PP Amor Isip, IPP Renny Harman and Mike and Celine Magpayo to have merienda and wait for PP Barbie Rivadineira and JM Olaco and IPP Ding Navasero to arrive. By dinnertime, everyone feasted on kare-kare, grilled chicken, crispy pata, fish and shrimp kebab and fruit platter. Flowing wine also accompanied the dinner. It was a long day of fun and adventure. Returning to Manila, everyone was rejuvenated by the fresh air, food and friendship.

Seven ways to get more out of Rotary in 2013

By Antoinette Tuscano

Try something different in 2013 to attract new members and keep existing ones. Here are a few ideas to help you do more with Rotary in the new year. Be part of Rotary's efforts to End Polio Now Consider planning a fundraiser for polio eradication, taking part in the World's Biggest Commercial, or having your club or district light up a landmark as part of Rotary’s anniversary celebration on 23 February. Rotarians have made great progress in the push to end the disease, but the job isn’t finished yet. As little as US$0.60 can help immunize a child against the incurable disease. Contribute to Polio Plus, and learn more about Rotary's eradication efforts. Think strategically and set club goals Rotary Club Central is an online assessment tool that helps clubs set goals and track their accomplishments, such as contributions to The Rotary Foundation. New features have just been added that allow clubs to plan and track service projects from beginning to end, and set public relations goals. Log in through Member Access, and help your club work more efficiently by using the tool to set and measure club goals. Help the Foundation fulfill its mission Make a resolution to donate to the Foundation’s Annual Fund in 2013. Skip one latte a week, and you'd have US$100 or more to contribute to your club's Every Rotarian, Every Year effort. You can make a one-time contribution or a recurring gift. Get up to speed on the new grant model In July, all districts will begin using the Foundation's new grant model. Get prepared by learning more about the model. See what Rotarians have to say about the model, read a global grant case study, and check out

a guide to the new grants in Global Outlook.

Get inspired at the RI Convention The 2013 RI Convention in Lisbon, Portugal, 23-26 June, is an ideal opportunity to network with Rotarians from all over the world, develop your leadership skills, and connect with others who share your recreational, professional, or humanitarian interests. Lisbon was recently voted as the best quality for the price destination in the world and the friendliest city in Europe by Trip Advisor's annual poll of users. Discover why Lisbon is an explorer's paradise on our convention microsite, and register today.

Publicize your good work Public Image Grants enable districts to raise Rotary’s profile and promote the global and local work of Rotarians by placing public service announcements on television and radio, in print media and on billboards, and on the Web. Help your district apply for a grant by 4 March. To further promote your club’s signature activities, be sure to update your website with information about your projects and meetings. Also, start a social media page, and follow what Rotary is doing on sites such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Connect with alumni Rotary Foundation alumni can be effective speakers at club meetings, and many are potential club members. Reach out to them.
