The Theoretical and Computational Mechanics Laboratory (TCML) at CSIR-SERC brings together the scientists working on theoretical and computational mechanics, complemented by experimental investigations to contribute towards knowledge and technology development. Scientists are involved in characterization and simulation of physical phenomenon and responses of physical systems by using the principles of theoretical and computational mechanics. Based on the research carried out at TCML, scientists provide reliable solutions to complex problems of high technological relevance. THEORETICAL AND COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS LABORATORY (TCML) CSIR-SERC AN ISO 9001-CERTIFIED ORGANISATION CSIR - Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India. Established in the year 1965, CSIR-SERC has built up excellent facilities and expertise for carrying out R&D in the field of structural engineering covering analysis, design and testing of model / prototype structures as well as structural components. The centre has developed many cutting-edge technologies for the construction industry and also offers various services to public and private sector organisations.

Mechanics may be defined as the science that describes behaviour of the physical systems under the action of the forces. On the other hand, computational mechanics is a rapidly growing discipline that uses computational methods to study phenomena that are governed by principles of mechanics.
