In this modern world that is continually eradicating the significance of human connection, Pope Francis reminds us the gift of genuine concern for our fellowmen. As a Thomasian, I can apply this quote from the Holy Pope in my everyday living by putting myself in the shoes of those who are suffering, the marginalized and the oppressed for me to see and feel the magnitude of their misery and tribulations in life. I will also give help to them in the best way that I can. 2. “Only by becoming poor ourselves by stripping away our complacency will we able to identify with the least of our brothers and sisters.” – Pope Francis In the context of this quotation, one might say that the Pope himself knows that the Filipino clergy, like the clergy in Vatican and elsewhere, have grown comfortable with social exclusion, polarization and scandalous inequality.
