The Milly Magpie Term 3 | Week 2 24 th July 2020 ATTENDANCE (Term 3 to date): 87.7% I AM SAFE I AM RESPECTFUL I AM A LEARNER Semester 1 report cards Report cards will be issued home to families on Friday, 24 th July (Week 2, Term 3). All subject areas will appear on your child’s report except for HASS (Humanities & Social Sciences). Parent/teacher interviews will not take place this semester; however, your child’s teacher may contact you with information about your child’s learning progress this semester. Our students have worked hard this semester under very trying circumstances (due to COVID-19). Please take the time to discuss your child’s report card with them – to both celebrate their successes and to talk about the next steps in their individual learning growth. Congratulations to our students for the great effort they have shown during Semester 1. Positive Behaviour for Learning Millchester is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school. We explicitly teach our three school expectations to all students, every day. Our PBL Team, consisting of the Principal and classroom teachers, develop our fortnightly focuses based on data collected in our classrooms and playground. Our intent is to take a positive approach to the teaching of our key messages and provide support to individual students as required. Our school’s Behaviour Management Plan supports our work and provides a framework for managing behaviour incidents as they arise. This fortnight’s PBL focus messages are displayed in this newsletter. Please take the time to discuss these messages with your child and celebrate the positive behaviour choices they make. Thursdays, 9:00 – 10:30am! Thank you for ordering donuts! Our school Donut Drive was an amazing success we were overwhelmed by the support! I’d like to sincerely acknowledge our hard- working P&C team & volunteers for your efforts to prepare for this fundraiser and for tirelessly cooking these delicious treats for our families. School sport update Our inter-house (school-based) athletics carnival will be held in the second half of Term 3 (date to be confirmed). A Touch Football Gala Day for boys & girls in Years 5 & 6 will be held on Friday, 11 th September (please note this date change). We’ll keep you posted about sporting events across our cluster as decisions are made. Students of the Week! We’re super proud of our ‘Students of the Week’! Enrolments for Prep in 2021 Parents & carers who wish to enrol their children for Prep at Millchester in 2021 are welcome to register your child’s name/s at the school office. If you are aware of local families, who may be considering enrolling children in Prep at Milly next year, please pass on this information.

Public holiday – Fri, 14th August Please note that Friday, 14th August is designated as our local show holiday in Charters Towers this year.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

This annual statewide initiative aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning. This year’s challenge concludes on Friday, 28th August (in just over a month!). If your child requires a reading log please make contact with your child’s classroom teacher. Keep reading, Milly!
