SCHOOL NEWS Bali Rai joins the Year 10 Kingsdale ‘Crew’ On Tuesday, 27th June, Kingsdale’s Year 10s were treated to a visit by Bali Rai, a celebrated young adult writer who has published a huge number of novels covering a wide variety of genres and styles. Bali has produced popular fiction like ‘Dream On’, ‘(un)arranged marriage’, ‘The Crew’, ‘Game On’, ‘What’s your Problem?’, ‘Web of Darkness’ and several other fascinating books. In 2010, his novel, ‘Rani & Sukh’ was used as a set text for GCSE. The day consisted of two hands-on workshops in the morning. Bali addressed the whole Year 10 cohort in a special assembly in the Pod in the afternoon. The talk centred on topics that can both help and hinder writing, such as race, culture, age and background, and included a host of insightful and often hilarious anecdotes from Bali’s past. Bali successfully shook the audience out of their mundane ponderings and made them reflect about their own views on the world. A fantastic visit all round. Textiles students have it all sewn up! Last Thursday the Year 10 & 12 textiles students visited the degree show at Central Saint Martins and then went to The Wellcome Collection. The work was incredibly inspiring and the drawings and photographs that they took will be used as part of their future coursework.
