Hollywood veteran dies LOS ANGELES: Neva Patterson, who played Cary Grant’s fiancee in the 1957 classic An Affair to Remember, has died. Patterson, 90, died on Tuesday at her home in Brentwood of complications from a broken hip. She already was a Broadway veteran when she was cast to opposite Cary Grant. She was the first actress to play the role of Helen Sherman in the 1952 Broadway version of The Seven Year Itch. Pink Panther director dies at 88 LOS ANGELES: Blake Ed- wards, the director and writer known for clever dialogue, poignance and occasional belly-laugh sight gags in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, 10 and the Pink Panther farces, is dead at age 88. Edwards died from complications of pneu- monia late Wednesday at St John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, said publi- cist Gene Schwam. Blake’s wife, Julie And- rews, and other family members were at his side. At the time of his death, Edwards was working on two Broadway musicals, one based on the Pink Panther movies. Twins for Mariah Mariah Carey NEW YORK: Mariah Carey is going to be a mum – twice over. Nick Cannon an- nounced on his radio show yesterday his wife was expecting twins. ‘‘I haven’t even told my wife I’m doing this so I’m probably gonna get yelled at. We are hav- ing twins,’’ Cannon said on New York’s 92.3 station. Carey’s publicist Cindi Berger later con- firmed the news. Cannon said two VIPs had the scoop: US Pre- sident Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. Carey told them during a taping of a Christmas in Washington show. ‘‘Both babies are in tip-top shape,’’ Cannon said. Carey, 40, and Can- non, 30, married two years ago after a whirl- wind romance. The Fighter comes home Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg in a scene from The Fighter ST LOUIS: His glamorous life in Beverly Hills is the basis for the TV series Entourage, but Mark Wahlberg left his heart in Massachusetts. Raised in the tough Boston suburb of Dorchester, where he was a teenage car thief and drug dealer, the actor- turned-producer returned to his home state to film the true-life boxing bio The Figh- ter. In a recent phone inter- view with the St Louis Post- Dispatch, Wahlberg said his local notoriety could be a dis- traction. ‘‘For about two weeks, it’s good to be home, but then it becomes pretty hectic,’’ he said. When Wah- lberg shot The Perfect Storm in Massachusetts in 1999, some of his old cronies visi- ted the set and he had to stop them from stealing the cam- eras. But like the character based on Wahlberg in En- tourage, he is famously loyal. The Fighter, the story of box- er Micky Ward and his trou- bled half-brother Dickie Eck- lund, was directed by David O Russell, with whom Wah- lberg worked on Three Kings and I Heart Huckabees. Wahlberg said he was at- tracted to Ward’s improbable rags-to-riches story because it resembled his own. ‘‘I grew up 30 minutes from where Micky was from,’’ he said. ‘‘I was a huge fan be- cause of how he won the title against all odds, because of his relationship with his hometown of Lowell, because of his relationship with his mother and his siblings. ‘‘He’s from a family of nine kids, and I’m the youngest of nine. The parallels are hard to miss.’’ The Fighter is scheduled for a January 2011 release in Aust- ralia DMX heading back to jail PHOENIX: Court offic- ials in Arizona say the rapper known as DMX has had his probation revoked and is heading to prison for one year. He told KSAZ-TV in Phoen- ix he was kicked out of a drug treatment program because he had a drink during a show.
