The Chemist Chronicle Germany- 1860 - New Discovered Element five cents ________________________________________________________________________________________ __ Facts you should know The element has been discovered by two German chemists, Gustav Kirchhoff and Robert Bunsen. The new elements that has been discovered “Cesium”, it was named this because of the blue lines in its spectrum. The latin word caesius means sky blue. We do not know the exact date when this element was discovered but it was this year, 1860. What does it look like? This new element above is described as a shiny gold color. The texture is know as soft. Although the element has many forms it is described as an alkali metal. It is also found in rocks, soil and dust at small concentrations.A natural form can be found in the environment and there is only one stable form as an isotope. How does this affect the public? You can be exposed to cesium by breathing or drinking water, you can be exposed to both the stable form and radioactive. But the level of cesium in food, water and breathing is a very small amount. Also the amount of concentrated cesium in the air is less than one microgram. When be exposed there is a very low chance of you being affected, scientists have done tests on lab animals and have found that it affects at a very low amount. \ What are the standards from the government to protect us from this element? As you know since the finding of this element the government has to make tests to see if this affects the public

Facts you should know

The element has been discovered by two German chemists, Gustav Kirchhoff and Robert Bunsen.

Also the amount of concentrated cesium in the air is less than one microgram.When be exposed there is a very low chance of you being affected, scientists have done tests on lab animals and have found that it affects at a very low amount. \  What are the standards from the government to protect us from this element?

As you know since the finding of this element the government has to make tests to see if this affects the public

or affects the environment.The standards that were developed are, there is a limit to an amount you can be exposed to it if you work near it. Another one is that there should be tests daily in mass populated areas.
