In looking for a musical that would fit well with our theater, I came across
BARK!The show had a long run in Los Angeles and has gone on to be pro-
duced across the U.S., in Brazil and this August at the Edinburgh Fringe Fes-
tival. It allows six actors to shine as individuals and as members of the vocal
ensemble. And it’s about dogs—what’s not to like? As a friend of mine who
works with dogs said, “They never lie. They are always honest.” That is more
than we can say about many of the humans we know, and it is a refreshing
change to spend time with creatures who love us so unconditionally.
While the premise of the show is deceptively simple, six dogs at doggie
day care center and a dog park, the music and harmonies are quite varied
and sophisticated and provided plenty of challenges for the cast. The char-
acters are drawn from human life: the diva, the protector, the gruff but loving
friend, the loyal father figure, the enthusiastic youngster and the outsider. We
hope you will enjoy the show as a respite from our daily cares and a love letter
to man’s best friend. If you can, please join us in supporting the dog welfare
and rescue groups who are partnering with us during this production.
And think of us the next time you hear the sirens.

Elena Coleman (Boo) is a dog-lover from Pittsburgh, PA.She recently earned her BFA in Musical Theatre and PublicRelations at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Educa-tional theatrical credits include Company (Marta), Edges, TheDrowsy Chaperone, The Pirates of Penzance, The ONU HolidaySpectacular, Legally Blonde (Vivienne) and Bye Bye Birdie(Ursula Merkle). This is Elena’s first performance since mov-ing to Los Angeles!
Ben Fuligni (Rocks) is a recent graduate of Tufts University.He has appeared in the plays Circle Mirror Transformation,Booty Candy and The Complete Works of William Shake-speare, Abridged. He is currently working as a math teacherfor the STAR Program. He is excited to be in his first showback in Los Angeles and hopes you enjoy BARK!
Julie Hinton (Chanel) studied acting at Dixie College andBYU before moving to Los Angeles. She is also a director,writer and producer, and some of her short films can beviewed on her website. Her theatrical resume includes TheScarlet Pimpernel (Marguerite), Les Misérables (Eponine),Annie Get Your Gun (Annie), Into the Woods (Witch) and TheSecret Garden (Lily), as well as many roles in various Shake-spearean productions. Peter Miller (Sam) is appearing in his sixth production atTheatre Palisades and the first where the producers have in-sisted he “go on the paper.” Many of you may remember Peteras William Barfee (with the Magic Foot) from The 25th An-nual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Other favorite roles haveincluded Trekkie Monster in Avenue Q, Inspector Kemp inYoung Frankenstein and The Lecturer in Reefer Madness. Peteris also a voice actor here in Los Angeles.
Marina Tidwell (Golde) is delighted to be back at TheatrePalisades for the second time this year (she played Polly inPlay On! this past spring). Marina trained at the Webber-Douglas Acting Academy in London, has directed dozens ofshows, currently directs and teaches musical theater for chil-dren and youth in Culver City, and studies voice with CathyWallace (cagabrielle.com). Susan Stangl (Director, Sound and Projection Design) has previously directedThe Supporting Cast and Has Anybody Here Seen Roy? at Theatre Palisades as wellas shows at Kentwood Players, LATC, SMC, The Celebration Theatre and theHollywood Fringe Festival. She has designed sound for over 100 productions andwas most recently seen on our stage as Effy in The Spitfire Grill. She is gratefulto the TP board for the opportunity to direct her first musical.
Gary Nesteruk (Musical Director) has over 35 years of experience as a freelancemusician, playing piano and synthesizer. He has performed on over 100 film andtelevision soundtracks, including Spiderman 3, Rounders, A Nightmare on ElmStreet II and Swordfish. In addition to jazz venues, theater and corporate events,Gary toured for 12 years as synthesist for pianist Roger Williams and has workedas an arranger and producer.
Heidi Dotson (Choreographer, Costume Design) is excited to be working on herfirst show with Theatre Palisades. She has produced, directed, and performedwith Culver City Public Theatre, San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre, Riverside CivicLight Opera and the Redlands Bowl, among others. She has written numerousplays and is the co-founder of PretendLab, a theater for young audiences, withher husband Rob. She would like to thank Susan, Ria, and Sylvia for their supportand for giving her this opportunity. Woof!
Gavin MacLeod (Executive Producer) is perhaps best known for his role as Cap-tain Merrill Stubing on the popular TV series The Love Boat. He and his wife Patticurrently call the California desert home, but still consider Pacific Palisades theirofficial hometown. In fact, MacLeod served as honorary mayor of the Palisadesfor a record-setting five years. He is delighted to continue his association with thecity by supporting one of its crown jewels—Theatre Palisades.
Arnie Wishnick (Executive Producer) has been Executive Director of the PacificPalisades Chamber of Commerce for 25 years. A longtime Theatre Palisades sup-porter, he previously co-produced The Marvelous Wonderettes, Damn Yankeesand The Pajama Game. “I love musicals and dogs,” Wishnick said, “so producingBARK! was a natural fit.” He dedicates his efforts to two beloved best friends,now watching over him—Sandy, a yellow Labrador retriever, and Jack, a goldenretriever/German shepherd mix.
Ria Parody Erlich (Co-Producer) has acted in, directed and produced numerousshows at Theatre Palisades, and served on the Board of Directors. She most re-cently appeared on the Pierson Playhouse stage as Aggie, the stage manager, inPlay On!Unlimited affection and treats to Susan, Sylvia, and the delightful doggiesof BARK! Extra special good wishes and hugs to Sherry. And thanks especiallyto Shel, whose boundless love and support means everything and more.
Sylvia Grieb (Co-Producer) has been with Theatre Palisades since 1976 in RusticCanyon. She costumed several shows and was involved with costumes for AuntieMamewhen we opened the Pierson Playhouse thirty years ago this fall. She hasbeen membership chairman and subscriber chairman. She also has co-producedseveral shows: Don’t Dress for Dinner, Perfect Wedding, Spitfire Grill and In-laws,Outlaws and Other People (That Should Be Shot). It has been fun to work withthis cast. I know you will enjoy this show.
Sherman Wayne (Set & Lighting Design) is VP of Production for Theatre Pali -sades, and has directed, produced, managed, designed and built sets for the theatrefor more years than he would like to admit. Beginning as company manager ofThe Fantasticks in NYC, he worked extensively both off and on Broadway. Movingback to California, Sherman worked for The Centre Theatre Group and theGreek Theatre and taught high school the atre for 25 years. He has directed manyplays at TP, including Noises Off, Rumors, Plaza Suite, Picnic and The Fantasticks.Sherman received both the Christofer Cariello Award and the Lelah T. PiersonAward for his never-ending support and commitment to Theatre Palisades.
Joanne Reich (Poster Design, Scenic Artist) has designed most of the TP postersfor the past five years! She also designed the set for Company. Her scenic artistry hasbeen on display in The Hollow, The Odd Couple, Spitfire Grill and South Pacific,among others. A nationally renowned sculptor and painter, she has a BA in Art fromUCLA. She also studied oil painting at the DeCordova Museum Art School andsculpture at the Brentwood Art Center and the Sculpture Studio in Santa Monica.
Josh Harper (Stage Manager) is thrilled to return for his 29th production at thePierson Playhouse. Beginning in 2010 as a member of the stage crew for TPY’sproduction of The Wind in the Willows, he became a stage manager with both TPYand mainstage productions. In addition, Josh was associate producer for five TPYshows and has made cameo appearances in Has Anybody Here Seen Roy? andSherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. He was most recently stage manager forTP’s production of Play On! “Break a leg!”
