4th Quarter 2014

SPOTLIGHT

A LETTER TO FELLOW EMPLOYEES

100 Years and Growing Stronger! As we finish 2014 and head into 2015 I want to thank everyone that has helped us make it through 100 years.

During the last few months we held our annual employee appreciation dinner, had an open house with the Massillon Chamber of Commerce celebrating our 100 years in business, had Ohio Governor Kasich & Lt. Governor Taylor visit our Canton warehouse, were featured in the local newspaper and received for the 3

rd straight year the Weatherhead 100 Award (100 fastest growing companies in Northeast Ohio)

as well as a safety award from the Ohio Trucking Association for zero accidents during 2013 (2nd

year in a row). On top of this, we have finally pulled ahead of last year’s net income (although slightly behind in margin).

Despite all this we cannot rest on our laurels. We have begun formal strategic planning to position our company for the next three to five years. We are upgrading our accounting software to provide more operational information and user friendly reports. Thanks again and we look forward to the next 100 years!

In September, we lost a valued employee, Denny Stein who had been an employee of Peoples Cartage in Massillon for the past 14 years. Please keep his family in your prayers as we all mourn his loss.

Respectfully yours, Douglas J. Sibila President/CEO

The Year So Far We have now hit the 3/4th mark for the year. It is amazing how time has flown by and we are now preparing for winter. But I thought this might be a good time to reflect on the significant events that have occurred in 2014. So below are some of the events of note; •We continue to work on the implementation of Synapse as the warehouse management system of choice for all locations except Parkersburg. Candy Kline and her team are now in Saginaw working on that warehouse. This year they already completed Dayton and Midland. Next up for 2015 will be Charlotte, Nitro and Salem. This is an enormous task and we applaud Candy and her team members for a job well done.

•We spent over $1.5 million dollars on new equipment this year. This is primarily for tractors, forklifts, trailers and racking. We must constantly reinvest in our equipment to guarantee we have the right equipment in the correct condition for our employees to do their jobs well.

•One of the negative items is we have lost our contract to operate the Bayer warehouse in Newark, Ohio. The scope of the agreement changed adding 20 additional positions in the plant. With that change the contract was placed out for bid. Out of 11 bidders, we were number 2 which put us in the same spot as 9 other bidders. This was purely a money decision. The team working at that site did a great job servicing Bayer over the past four years, but in the end it boiled down to dollars. We owe them thanks for a lot of solid work and effort and wish them well with the new provider.

•But on the flip side this change does provide us with the opportunity to start a new challenge. Kate Livingstone, the manager in Newark will assume a new position, Manager of Lean Engineering. If you are not familiar with Lean concepts feel free to look it up. Lean is exactly what it sounds like. It is a process fostered by Toyota that drives waste out of processes. Kate has the background and experience to lead this and I for one look forward to the opportunity.

•We are in the process of opening a new operation dedicated to one customer in Charleston, SC. This is a dedicated facility for carbon black. We intend to make this a model of how a carbon black facility should look and operate. Dan Stemple has been leading the charge to get this facility up and running and we look forward to a model facility.

•Over the summer we did a significant upgrade to the packaging operations in Nitro. The improvement is noticeable and well received by our clients. It was a significant task not only with the equipment but also with a complete rewrite of our packaging processes.

•New agreements were completed with the Teamsters locals in both Massillon and Michigan sites. I think we all walked away with the belief a fair agreement was reached in each case and I thank the union negotiating teams for their thoughtful and not self-serving discussions during the negotiations.

•We are in the process of installing Smart Drive Camera systems in all of our tractors. Massillon became the guinea pig. When we first put them in the tractors we had over 1000 events that set off the cameras during the initial month. In September the total events that triggered the cameras dropped by 75%. The goal is to provide tools to make us a better and more importantly safer transportation operation. In fact one incident recorded was a serious accident in Massillon. The camera system clearly showed our driver was not at fault. It worked to perfection.

There are a lot more things that I could go into but I’ll stop here. The fourth quarter normally is dedicated to creating plans for next year. This year will be no different as we develop our operating budget and plans for capital expenditures for next year. We are very optimistic about our business opportunities in the next year and we look forward to our ongoing success. Bill Hanlon, Chief Operating Officer

Tom Carper, Jamie Heaney, Christy Trumps, Dani Johnson, Jonathan Rettman & Cheryl Ward received jackets from Doug.

They were all employees of the month during 2013.

Sue Young receives her

employee of the year

plaque from Rick King.

Great job Sue!

Our Own “Highway Hero”

We want to recognize Jermaine Anthony, our mail driver in Michigan. On Tuesday, October 14

th our dispatcher received a call from a woman

in Detroit that said she was driving on the highway that morning when she went into diabetic shock. Our driver, Jermaine was on the highway when he noticed her nod off and start going toward the side of the road. He started honking and as she hit the ditch she came to enough to stop her car. Jermaine pulled over and called the police to get an ambulance and he stayed with her until they arrived giving his statement. She said he saved her life and asked us to give her phone number to Jermaine so that she could personally thank him for his heroic effort. Jermaine recognized that she was in trouble; she was unconscious and he kept her stable at the side of the road for about 20 minutes until paramedics arrived at the scene. Jermaine is a true “Highway Hero”!

We’re proud to have you

on our team!

Happy Fall Everybody.

If I was to describe what was happening up in Cleveland it would be “Return”! We have seen a return of business from days past. Merillat Industries has had a small boom in cabinet manufacturing this quarter. Alex, our delivery driver has been up to the task of keeping all of Masco contractors up to date. Enesys Corporation has had an increase of 30% in storage, by shipping to us multiple overseas containers. Companies like Gromax, Atlantic Tool & Die, Robbins and PMG have all returned to Crown with more storage too.

New customers have joined our family, as well, companies like Cleveland Vibrator, Precision Fluids, Finish Line Industries and Ask Chemical. All this work has made our warehouse guy, Sam, happy because it makes the day go by quicker or so he says.

Worthington Products is shipping more finished product down to South America for the Amazon River project. This material is being loaded in oversea containers by our favorite dispatcher, Ralph and his crew at our facility. Later this year we will see the return of a couple more important contracts. Flint Hills/Kraton will be returning with their pre-buy sometime in December and the man in the number 23 jersey will be returning to the Cavs to bring home a championship. The season starts October 30

A lot of change here at BASF warehouse. Starting with a new manager Dan Peterson, to a new customer Roechling that came aboard at the end of September. Roechling is a global plastic group that encompasses 60 companies. Together, they employ 7,500 people in 20 countries around the world. Headquarters are located in Manheim, Germany. Roechling sales have increased 50% over the past 4 years. 52% of their business in Automotive Technology. Our facility will be storing Engine Acoustic fabric and Body Under Shields material. Skids are 96 X 96, very large skids of fabric. We will perform quality checks and shuttle product to their plant daily.

Lastly, we want to thank Eric Borrell for all the help that he put into managing BASF in absence of a manager. Everyone here at BASF was very thankful for all the hard work Eric put in.

Dan Peterson, Akron, OH

The Home Ave. warehouse is having a very good quarter and year. The combined net profit for June, July, and August compared to the same three months last year, is up!

The lion’s share of these results can only be attributed to the overall efficiency of the 5 people at this location. Those people are account reps Jack Newman, Teresa Stratton and warehouse professionals Mike Shipp, Joe Fink, and Joe Cusick.

As the temperature begins to drop the inventory level here in Columbus has begun to rise. We expect this to continue through the end of the year due to the amount of MDI expected to arrive in both bulk and packaged goods. The trucking operation is running at full steam and we expect to see an increase in demand for our temperature controlled trailers as winter approaches. The summer brought many changes to our facility. We have done some reorganizing with shifts and personnel and thank everyone involved for making the necessary adjustments and allowing us to continue to meet the client’s expectations.

I want to end by welcoming the newest member of the TWI-Columbus family and congratulate Chris Garcia and Lisa Cartner on the birth of their baby girl, Lillianna. While her forklift skills could use some work, Lillianna has picked up on Synapse well and we hope to have her running the shipping office by the time she turns 1. We are geared up for the end of the year and wish everyone a safe and strong finish to 2014.

Eric Borrell, Columbus, OH Little Princess

It has been a great year for change. I have spent most of 2014 on the road working with the three Central Warehouse Operations locations working on facility upgrades, warehouse layouts and Synapse conversions. As I write this, I am in Saginaw with the Synapse conversion team and working to complete the last of the Central system conversions. I couldn’t be happier over the way the Central teams have been such a wonderful fit for both our corporate culture and for an ongoing desire to be great at what we do. Lisa Eickmeyer, Jackie Wuolukka and Vince Sweet as the Central Warehouse Managers certainly help set the tone for exceptional customer service. Many thanks to Doug and Bill for opening the corporate purse strings to invest in the buildings and operations as needed to bring them up to speed. Such improvements are costly, but critical to our long-term success. And the teams are committed to ongoing success. Central Midland, for example, received 23 QMs (non-conformances) in 2012 and 16 QMs in 2013. The challenge was made in December of 2013 that I would cook steaks for the team if they went 6 months with zero fault defects. Through July 2014, ZERO QMs!! Strip steaks, rib-eye steaks and marinated chicken for all on 09/18/14 and we had an awesome time with a fantastic team. Other changes this year include Tammy Steinman as manager in Massillon from Canton, Jonathan Rettman as manager in Canton and Dan Peterson recently hired as manager in Akron for the BASF operation. Having the right people with the right skills and mindsets in place helps set the tone for excellence in all things. Great things to be seen in 2015 as we continue to perfect what we do, how we do it and, more importantly, who we do it with.

Gregory J. Hughes, Vice President of Operations

Massillon continues to be very full and we have our hands in lots of projects. In addition to our standard bulk packaging efforts, we recently completed a second project for a division of BASF that requires transferring a “challenging” powder into bulk tankers. The related pictures show the process and safety precautions required. As we have worked through our first year of rail cars for our newer client Stanislaus, we have installed a mechanical canopy to protect the slip sheeted, food grade material as it is offloaded and to enhance lift safety as the rain and snow fly.

We’d also like to recognize Misty Pradelski who has joined the team with an effective hire date in June. We have a strong, cross-trained team and look forward to finishing the year with a productive bang. Tammy Steinman, Massillon, OH

The note below was sent when an inspection was done prior to unloading product into one of our bulk tanks and foreign particles were found in the product at the Columbus facility.

Nice job to you and your staff on review of the product before unloading. I appreciate all you do and it is nice to have confidence in the people we work with.

Thanks again. Michael S. McCarty Director of Operations Harwick Standard Distribution Corporation

All I know is that each day seems to be more challenging than the day before. Customers are more demanding and requiring more and more customization. In order to keep up with these demands we’re making a few changes at Marvo Drive. Ron Bonkowski will be assuming the role of Quality Manager. He will be charged with analyzing our failures and determining the root causes. He will be responsible for ensuring that going forward we have the necessary training and procedures in place to succeed. John Denison will take on the role as Operations Manager for the site. As such, JJ will be responsible for the day to day operations in all buildings. Danielle Johnson will be promoted to the Office Manager replacing JJ. Dani has worked very hard in her role as office coordinator and her promotion is well deserved. Pam Frank will assume the role of Palmer Coordinator. Palmer Holland has always been one of our biggest clients. As they grow, they are also becoming a bigger part of our daily activities and requiring more and more attention. Pam’s role will allow her to focus on the issues and exceptions so everyone else can better take care of the rest of the business.

We are excited about these changes. Each of these people has done great things in their current positions and we look forward to their next round of contributions. Onward and upward.

Mike Costello, Akron, OH

It has been a busy year for us at Distribution Freight. We added an over the road driver, Mark Fusco, to help our customers with some of their longer shipping needs. He has been a big help for us and is truly a team player that is always willing to help however he can. Jeff Baker is new for us this year as well. He replaced a driver that left DFI and has been a great fit. He jumped right in and filled some pretty big shoes quite quickly and seamlessly. We replaced 4 old beat up leased tractors with new Freightliners for which the drivers are truly grateful.

I just want to take a minute to thank everyone at DFI for the hard work they have put in so far this year. When the calendar flipped to October, DFI has surpassed its total revenue for all of 2013. That leaves us the entire last quarter of 2014 to add to that record total. Thank you all for everything that you do!

Ron DeMichael, Akron, OH

As the leaves start falling, so have the wheels in record numbers. Alcoa has been booming as we enter the fourth quarter of the year. We have recently expanded our work hours not only from seven days but to a three shift operation to keep up with the demand. As we continue to grow, so has the employee roster. Jackie Bowling recently returned as a CSR. In addition, we would like to welcome aboard Heather Heppe (CSR) Brendan Swain (Warehouse), and Vaughn Denison who recently transferred from the Columbus operation to join our team. Over the last eight months, our team has been chal-lenged with record volumes, long hours, and extended days of our schedules. Each and every team member has stepped up and contributed to the successes of this operation as well as Alcoa. So at this time, I would like to express to my team GREAT JOB!!

Steven Little, Mogadore, OH

Summer went by extremely fast here in Midland. After finally getting through the conversion to Synapse it was time to gear up for Dow’s conversion to NEA. Like with any startup there have been many headaches and hiccups to work through. There are still many inefficiencies with NEA, however we are working closely with Dow to document them and set a priority. We were very proud to have sent Tom Carper to the employee recognition dinner at the beginning of September. In the past few weeks we have brought on a few clients such as auto parts Nexteer and some organic spelt for Harvest Ridge. Dow Auto has also greatly increased the amount of inbound material that is being stored here and due to the issues with NEA shipments are down. Chris Laplow was promoted to Operations Manager effective 8-15-14. Aric Berchem has graciously offered to assist with the conversion in Saginaw and will be splitting his time between both facilities over the next few months. On September 18

th everyone enjoyed either steak or chicken

grilled to order by Greg Hughes to celebrate going 6 months without any documented errors (QM’s). We look forward to improving as many of the inefficiencies with the NEA as we can during the 4

th quarter and end the year

with excellence.

Lisa Eickmeyer, Midland, MI

The conversion is complete in Dayton and we are now running Synapse WMS. Our conversion started on 6/24 and ran through 8/15. For the most part I believe the actual system conversion went fairly well, but there were some hiccups. We found a wireless point had a bad Ethernet cable, getting people who hadn’t been using RF guns up to speed quickly, trying to understand the best method to track material in the new system, and no decimals in the quantity field. I was reassured every conversion has some hiccups though. My team and I would like to thank everyone involved in Dayton’s conversion, Candy, Ron, Tom M, Tom T, Kel, Lisa, and Charlie “Thank You” for your time, help loading the inventory, and training the Dayton team. I would also like to thank the facilities that allowed these great people to help with our conversion, I am sure their absences were felt.

Since the conversion team left we have been working on improving our processes and reorganizing Dayton’s team to best utilize the new system’s capabilities and limitations. There is more tweaking to be done but we are on the right path to do things the most efficient way we can.

There have also been some staffing changes in Dayton during and since the conversion. I want to make sure my team knows how thankful and proud I am of them stepping up to do everything they can to make sure our clients haven’t noticed a change in the service we deliver.

Vince Sweet, Vandalia, OH

The Brick Team : Dave Freed, Justin Armstrong, Matt Mullin, Brad Brinzer

Timken brick set pack requests have kept these 4 gentlemen working at a furious pace. We have been building/kitting 40 heats a day, which is up 50% as opposed to just 6 months ago. Timken projections through the end of the year call for as many as 430 or better per month.

I personally want to applaud these guys for their hard work and extra hours to help meet the demands of a great customer.

Jay Kreiger, Navarre, OH

We have had some big changes here at Central Warehouse Saginaw. Greg Hughes has spent some quality time here helping us prep our building 7 for our new customer Verst/Huhtamaki Plastics. We now have the largest collection of Adult Beverage Pong Cups and have recently started receiving plates. In addition, Saginaw has started the conversion to Synapse. With Greg on site, our music knowledge has greatly increased, and look forward to the next round of Music Trivia.

Jackie Wuolukka, Saginaw, MI

A lot of new and wonderful things are happening down here. Our largest client, Ecolibrium Solar, has begun their next phase of solar fittings and we are helping them to enter the residential market with EcoX. Their Ecofoot2 project also has evolved into Ecofoot2+ and with it we have a new round of challenges with new parts to build and new paths to forge with them as they partner with more and more of the East Coast, including Target and Wal-Mart stores throughout New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Maryland.

These growth opportunities for Ecolibrium have provided for our growth here as well. The Canton warehouse is proud to welcome Penny Kaufman to our team as the coordinator for EcoX. Penny's skills and background in inventory control are essential to keeping the flow of product for both the EcoX and Ecofoot2+ product lines under control and organized.

The team here in Canton is very excited for all the new changes and challenges and is ready to rise to the occasion!

Jonathan Rettman, Canton, OH

Congrats to Hank Shaver who retired after 39 years of service to Peoples. We wish him the best in his retirement!

As we have for many years, PCI-Parkersburg recently unloaded and stored cases of popcorn for Boy Scout Troops in our area. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this happen!

In addition to an electrical upgrade to our facility, Publix recently installed a 500kW generator at Parkersburg that will keep us operational in the event of a power outage. Bring on the derechoes.

James Morgan, Parkersburg, WV

Currently, we are in the process of working with Sharon Keith (PSI Quality Manager) to prepare for ISO 9001-2008 certification at our site. All work instructions and forms are being reviewed for accuracy and to confirm the documents are controlled. The associates have been introduced and made aware of ISO and the expectations and requirements to achieve and maintain ISO certification. We are hopeful to have this implemented prior to year end.

We are also appreciative for the opportunity to help with the startup of a facility in the lower part of the state. This will be a new customer for the company and we look forward to forging a great relationship and growing the business. Cleanup and minor retrofit is underway and the first loads have started arriving. This facility is approximately 100,000 square feet and located in Moncks Corner, SC which is within 20 miles of the port.

Chuck Bridwell, Simpsonville, SC Customer letter to Greg Smith in Charlotte, NC

Good morning Greg-

Thank you for reaching out to us and I apologize for the delayed response.

At this time, we have no current issues and let’s keep it rolling! Your facilities continued dedication and commitment to both Chase Plastics and our customers/suppliers is greatly appreciated. You are an extension of our desired high expectations. Trish has done an outstanding job keeping both myself and all customer service reps in the loop of any issues and/or concerns. If you have concerns or issues with our operations, please let us know. We are very transparent with our partners to ensure both operations are running effectively and efficiently.

Keep up the good work and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much.

Another customer letter to Charlotte, NC

Greg,

Thanks for checking in on service. I have been hearing positive things. The team in Salisbury is delighted that we took the decision to use a third party warehouse. The volume going through TDI seems to be pretty good.

High Blood Pressure Prevention

About 1 in every 4 American adults has high blood pressure, also called hypertension, which is a major risk factor for heart and kidney diseases, stroke, and heart failure. High

blood pressure is especially dangerous, because it often gives no warning signs or symptoms. Fortunately, you can find out if you have high blood pressure by having your blood pressure checked regularly. If it is high, you can take steps to lower it. Just as important, if your blood pressure is normal, you can learn how to keep it from rising.

You can prevent high blood pressure by: Maintaining a healthy weight. Being overweight can make you two to six times more likely to develop high blood pressure than if you are at your desirable weight. Even small amounts of weight loss can make a big difference in helping to prevent and treat high blood pressure.

Getting regular exercise: People who are physically active have a lower risk of getting high blood pressure, 20% to 50% lower - than people who are not active. You don't have to be a marathon runner to benefit from physical activity. Even light activities, if done daily, can help lower your risk

Reducing salt intake: Often, when people with high blood pressure cut back on salt, their blood pressure falls. Cutting back on salt also prevents blood pressure from rising.

Drinking alcohol in moderation, if at all: Drinking too much alcohol can raise your blood pressure. To help prevent high blood pressure, limit how much alcohol you drink to no more than two drinks a day.

Reduce stress: Stress can make blood pressure go up, and over time may contribute to the cause of high blood pressure.

Stop smoking: If you smoke, Stop! Also, avoid tobacco smoke from others.

Most drug stores and many grocery stores have blood pressure machines.

When safety procedures are soundly implemented there are major benefits such as higher employee satisfaction as well as increased productivity. By minimizing the risk of injury, fewer workplace disruptions take place and absenteeism associated with injury is also reduced. Equipment downtime is another factor which can be avoided through the appropriate use of safety procedures.

SEVEN COMMON ACCIDENT CAUSES

Consider this statistic: 80 out of every 100 accidents are the fault of the person involved in the incident. Unsafe Acts cause four times as many accidents & injuries as unsafe conditions.

Accidents occur for many reasons. In most industries people tend to look for "things" to blame when an accident happens, because it's easier than looking for "root causes," such as the ones listed below. Consider the underlying accident causes described. Have you been guilty of any of these attitudes or behaviors? If so, you may have not been injured-but next time you may not be so lucky.

Taking Shortcuts: Every day we make decisions we hope will make the job faster and more efficient. But do time savers ever risk your own safety, or that of other crew members? Short cuts that reduce your safety on the job are not shortcuts, but an increased chance of injury.

Being Overly Confident: Confidence is a good thing. Overconfidence is too much of a good thing. "It'll never happen to me" is an attitude that can lead to improper procedures, tools, or methods in your work. Any of these can lead to an injury.

Starting a Task with Incomplete Instructions: To do the job safely and right the first time you need complete information. Have you ever seen a worker sent to do a job, having been given only a part of the job's instructions? Don't be shy about asking for explanations about work procedures and safety precautions. It isn't dumb to ask questions; it's dumb not to.

Poor Housekeeping: When clients, managers or safety professionals walk through your work site, house-keeping is an accurate indicator of everyone's attitude about quality, production and safety. Poor housekeeping cre-ates hazards of all types. A well maintained area sets a standard for others to follow. Good housekeeping in-volves both pride and safety.

Ignoring Safety Procedures: Purposely failing to observe safety procedures can endanger you and your co-workers. You are being paid to follow the company safety policies-not to make your own rules. Being "casual" about safety can lead to a casualty!

Mental Distractions from Work: Having a bad day at home and worrying about it at work is a hazardous combination. Dropping your 'mental' guard can pull your focus away from safe work procedures. You can also be distracted when you're busy working and a friend comes by to talk while you are trying to work. Don't become a statistic because you took your eyes off your work "just for a minute."

Failure to Pre-Plan Your Work: Being hasty in starting a task or not thinking through the process can put you in harms way. Instead, Plan Your Work and then Work Your Plan!
