The Year In Epidemiology - 2018 Our 2018 calendar of key events in epidemiology contains 175 listings to help you stay in touch and up to date on the latest developments in the field. The calendar items represent an almost 50% increase compared to the number of listings published last year in our 2017 calendar. The largest number of listings are for conferences and short courses which together make up 84% of the listings. We identified 14 summer programs and a smaller number of winter programs. This year’s calendar is truly international with listings from multiple countries on different continents. 2018 will introduce at least two first-time conferences on timely topics. Some of the more notable events scheduled for 2018 are:

► A Hackathon in Argentina in February
► A short course on Analyzing Risk at Harvard in March
► A conference on Epidemiological Birth Cohort Studies in Finland in June
► The 1st International Meeting on Teaching Epidemiology in Switzerland in June
► A summer program on Social Determinants of Health in London in July
► The 1st International Symposium on Life Course Epidemiology in The Netherlands in July

EPIDEMIOLOGIST DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics invites applicants for a tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in epidemiology. Requirements include a Doctoral Degree in Epidemiology, or in a related field with additional epidemiology training. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience. Areas of ongoing research within our department include mental health, neurologic disorders, infectious diseases, cardiovascular health, reproductive health, perinatal and pediatric health, nutrition and cancer, women’s health, environmental health, health services, health economics, biomarkers for disease risk and progression, health equity/social determinants of health, and biostatistical methods. We welcome applicants who work in complementary areas of epidemiological research and have a strong record of scholarship along with evidence of building an independent, externally-funded research program. This position includes teaching in graduate (MS, PhD), professional, and/or undergraduate programs and mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. MSU has 4 health-related colleges (Human Medicine, Osteopathic Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing) and Colleges of Natural Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Social Sciences, all of which participate in population health research.
