Unison Prayer
Dear God, give us joy in our hearts, now and forever.
Help us to tell other people about this joy too. Amen.
GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO GOD_________________
*Hymns of Praise #179 “Joy to the World!”
Deacons will collect prayer requests
*Prayer of Confession Lord Jesus Christ, we confess our willingness to be loved but
also our reluctance to love. We confess our readiness to accept your
forgiving love but also our refusal to forgive. We confess our
eagerness to grasp your offer of redeeming love but also our
resistance to follow you without question. In this Advent time,
forgive us our failure to respond as we should. Come to us anew, and
by your grace, assist us to receive you with joy, as the shepherds;
with gratitude, as Simeon; with obedience, as Mary; with love, as
you have loved us. Even so: come, Lord Jesus. Amen.
*Assurance of God’s Forgiveness
*Congregational Response Hymn #180
O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray; cast
out our sin and enter in; be born to us today. We hear the
Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell. O come to us,
abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel.
Time with the Children
Anthem
Joys and Concerns Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer
…Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we
forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.
Offering our Gifts to God
*Doxology Hymn # 34
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

GATHERING AT THE LORD’S TABLE_________________
God’s Invitation and Promises
Great Prayer of Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Distribution of the Bread and Cup Partake of the bread when passed – Hold the cup until all are served
*Prayer after Communion
Strengthen us, O God, in the power of your Spirit to
bring good news to the poor and lift blind eyes to sight, to loose
the chains that bind and claim your blessing for all people.
Keep us faithful in your service until Christ comes in final
victory and we shall feast with all your saints in the joy of your
eternal realm. Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the
unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor are yours,
almighty God, now and forever. Amen.
GO IN GOD’S NAME__________________________________

Advent greetings! The title of my message today is “What to Do When
Expecting.” A story from Nancy Topolewski about a dear college friend and
her husband reveals what most couples do when they receive the news that a
baby is on the way. They share the good news with everybody they can!
That’s what John the Baptist did too. However, he urged people to “Repent
of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” He wanted
people to be pregnant with hope and expectant with joy that accompanies
God’s coming. The voice of John the Baptist brings hope and joy like no
other. -Pastor Karl
