are considered to be the most-used world languages.

What Determines them?• The number of people who speak the language, distribution of
the language around the world, and the use of the language internationally all play a role in determining whether or not a language is considered a ‘world language'.
• Many see the following languages as the most-used world languages with many others close behind.

The Most Used• The most used languages in the world are:• • Mandarin
• Spanish• English• Hindi• Arabic
• And there are also other widely spoken languages include Bengali, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, French, and German.

Mandarin• Though there are many Chinese languages, Mandarin is used
more widely than others.
• Over 12% of the world population speaks Mandarin. That includes over 900 million people. Mandarin is most often spoken in China, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Spanish• The Spanish language is used by over 350 million people. • Originating along the Iberian Peninsula, the language has
dispersed throughout the world to places including North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and other areas.

English• English is the primary language of a many areas including the
United States, Ireland, Australia, and the United Kingdom. • According to the British Council, an organization in the United
Kingdom for cultural relations, nearly 375 million people speak English as their first language and nearly 375 million people speak English as their second language.

Hindi• Over 250 million people around the world speak Hindi. Hindi is
the native language of a handful of areas including Delhi, Haryana, and Bihar to name a few.
• The Republic of India also uses Hindi as one of its official languages.

Arabic• Arabic is spoken by nearly 280 million people. Arabic is similar
to Ugaritic, Hebrew, and Aramaic but is also very distinct from the others. The Arabic language has many dialects but most of them are understandable between dialects.
