The last twelve months weremarked by two major events.In November 2009, theTurkish resort town ofAntalya hosted the 18thWorld PuzzleChampionship. The bestpuzzlers from 27 countriesall over the world took part.Turkish hosts outdidthemselves to make it amemorable event. Theaccommodations and socialaspect of the event wereperfect, as well as thecompetition, though a minorflaw occurred during theplayoffs. Even so, finalresults did not bring anysurprises, with Ulrich Voightfrom Germany successfullydefending his title.By any measure, the WPC inAntalya may be considered agreat success for organizersand participants. During thisevent, the regular GeneralAssembly of the WPF washeld. A new site for thecombined WPC and WSC

2011 was chosen. It will bein the Hungarian town ofDebrecen, which is going tohave the difficult task ofhosting the two eventssimultaneously.Another major event tookplace at the end of April andthe beginning of May. TheU.S. city of Philadelphia,Pennsylvania, hosted the 5thWorld SudokuChampionship. Despite theglobal recession, whichmade it hard for many teamsto raise sufficient funds tosend competitors on longjourneys, and the uncertaintyof travel due to the Icelandicvolcano ash, the event was acomplete success, with thebest world competitorstaking part. Jan Mrozowskiof Poland confirmed hismastery by winning againafter last year's competitionin Zilina.The upcoming 19th WPC inWarsaw ends the presentpattern of two major events

every year. The majority ofthe members voted for acombined event, which is,no doubt, going to be achallenge for the organizers.The WPF itself functionedfor years following a set ofrules and regulations thatbecame in large partobsolete. Despite someattempts, changes take placeat a very slow pace. Ingeneral, we cannot besatisfied with ourpresentation to the publicworldwide, and with ourfailure to reap major benefitsfrom the worldwidepopularity of sudoku. TheGeneral Assemblydiscussions in Warsaw thisyear could yield somesolutions, and maybe initiatesome changes in thestructure of the WPF. It istime to introduce new ideasand perhaps new individualsto realize them.

Board memberspresent: Valter Kvalic,chairman; Will Shortz,treasurer; VitezslavKoudelka; and KamerAlyanakyan. PeterRitmeester, generalsecretary, was notpresent.

* Representatives ofKosovo have askedpermission to competein the 2009 WPC. WPFrules state that acountry must berecognized by theInternational OlympicCommittee in order tocompete officially inWPF events. Kosovo isnot recognized by theIOC. Should anexception be made?Board membersexpressed empathy withKosovo but felt that therules must be followedand urged patience bythe Kosovo puzzlers.

* After discussion theboard proposed thefollowing changes in theWPF statutes, whichcurrently are unclear orout of date or which theboard felt otherwise

could be improvedthrough amendment:1) WPF members havethe right to publishpuzzles from officialWPF events (WPC’s,WSC’s, etc.) only duringtheir years ofmembership.2) WPF members donot have the right topublish puzzles fromother WPF members’qualifying tests, withoutfirst getting permissionfrom the othercountries.3) The provision in thestatutes for individualWPF membershipsshould be eliminated.4) Any challenges toWPF membershipsshould be decided bythe general assembly,not the board.5) There should be nolimit on the cost ofteams to participate inthe WPC. However, aprospective WPC orWSC host shouldspecify in its offer to thegeneral assembly howmuch it expects theevent to costparticipants. If the host’soffer is accepted, thisfigure cannot later beraised withoutpermission from theboard.

* The board isinvestigating:1) the pros and cons ofsynchronizingmembership andfinancial years, whichare currently not thesame;2) the amount of timebefore a generalassembly for submittingan offer to host aWPC/WSC and makinga nomination to theboard; and 3) specificsof the voting procedure,which are currentlyunclear and incomplete.

* Vita said he, NickBaxter (USA), andothers are meetingregarding theWPC/WSC rules. Hesaid progress has beenmade, but that the workis not final. He said hisfirst goal is to avoidrepeating the mistakesof Zilina. His goal is tohave a full proposal topresent next year inPoland.

Summary of thediscussion anddecisions:


* After much discussion,the board proposed thefollowing format for acombined WPC/WSC:

Day 1: Arrival. Welcomein the eveningDay 2: Sudoku all dayDay 3: Sightseeing allday; WSC playoff in lateafternoon or earlyevening, awardsdinner/party + openingceremonies for theWPCDay 4: WPC technicalmeeting in the morning;WPC rounds in theafternoonDay 5: WPC all dayDay 6: WPC playoffs inthe morning orafternoon; awardsparty/dinner in theevening (closingceremony)Day 7: DepartureAny change in thisschedule would need

approval from WPFboard.

[Note: This plansubsequently wasamended by the generalassembly.]

On Friday evening theboard held a specialmeeting, along with JanFarkas and BlankaLehotska (Slovakia), todiscuss a scoring errorinvolving a Turkishcompetitor at the ZilinaWSC, which preventedthe Turk from competingin the playoff.Previously, during theyear, after protest by theTurkish competitor, theboard had voted toaward him a tie for 8thprize (the lowest placeof the playoffs), withoutlowering anyone else’sstanding.

Jan and Blanka raisedthe point that Jan, whodirected the Zilina WSC,wasn't consultedregarding the change inranking of the Turkishcompetitor, as heshould have been. Also,according to the WPFrules, any changeshould have been doneby a committee ofcaptains, not by theboard.

The board recognizedthe complaint, but notedthat the scoring errorwas not fixable after theWSC was over and thata meeting of captainswas not practicalbetween WPF events.The board felt that theresult was as fair aspossible and did theleast harm.

The meeting was called toorder by chairman ValterKvalic (Croatia) onNovember 4 at 14:35. Itwas held in threesessions over two days.Other board memberspresent were Will Shortz,treasurer (USA), VitezslavKoudelka (CzechRepublic), and KamerAlyanakyan (Turkey).Peter Ritmeester, generalsecretary (Netherlands),was not present butsubmitted reports for hisoffice.

The WPF membercountries present for all orpart of the congress wereBulgaria, Canada,Croatia, Czech Republic,Estonia, Finland, France,Germany, Hungary, Italy,Japan, Netherlands,Poland, Romania, Serbia,Slovakia, Turkey, andUnited States. Austria,Belgium, Denmark, andLuxembourg wererepresented by proxy.Also present but notvoting were Greece,Kosovo, and Ukraine.

Valter opened the meetingby welcoming theparticipants. The

delegates introducedthemselves and identifiedthe organizations theyrepresent.

Valter welcomed newWPF members Canadaand Chinese Taipei. Onbehalf of the board hereported on boarddecisions and activitiesduring the previous 12months [see summary in“Report of the Meeting ofthe WPF Board”].

On behalf of the statutescommittee, Will made areport on proposedchanges in the WPFstatutes, which are out ofdate and in some casesnot followed. Thecommittee consists ofPeter Ritmeester, Gyorgy,and Will. Will listed fiveproposed changes onwhich all the committeemembers agreed, as wellas issues still beingdebated/discussed [seethe lists in the boardreport].

Nick Baxter (USA) said anexact wording of theproposed changes isneeded before they canbe debated and voted on.Others agreed.

Nick and Vitezslavreported for thecommittee on WPC/WSCrules. They proposed aminimum one-yearmembership in the WPFbefore an offer to host aWPC/WSC can be made.Also, they proposed atightening of theprocedure for handlingprotests. More workneeds to be done. Theyhope to have a completeproposal to be debatedand voted on at the 2010WPC in Poland.

There was a shortdiscussion of problems atthe 2009 WSC in Zilina,starting with a Turkishcompetitor who waswrongly omitted from theplayoff round. It was notpossible (or practical) tofix the error after the fact.During the spring theboard voted to award theTurkish competitorretroactively a tie for 8thplace, which was thelowest place in theplayoff, without reducinganyone else's ranking.The board felt this resultdid the least harm.

Jan Farkas and BlankaLehotska (Slovakia)requested a captains'

meeting to replace theboard's decisionregarding the Turkishcompetitor, as the WPFrules specify. But giventhe passage of time, andthe absence of anyobviously betteralternative outcome, thiswas not felt necessary.

Another problem was aprotest during the ZilinaWSC playoff, made to theWPF board, which wasnot acted on at the time.Gyorgy asked the boardto learn from this mistake.

Will presented the board'sproposal for a combinedWPC/WSC [see the boardreport]. Discussionensued.

Nick pointed out that thisplan reduces the WPCcompetition by half a day,which he did not like.

Gyorgy said that hotelsmay not give good ratesfor different numbers ofrooms on successivenights. Also, he said theremay be extra costs fortravel that doesn't include

a Saturday night stay.

After a recess, JohannesSusen (Germany)proposed the followingalternative scenario for acombined WPC/WSC:Day 1: Arrival, technicalmeetingDay 2: WSCDay 3: WSC + playoff &awards ceremony +welcome party + technicalmeetingDay 4: WPC + departureday for WSCDay 5: WPCDay 6: WPC finals +awards ceremonyDay 7: DepartureIn sum, this proposalprovides morecompetition, lesssocializing, and nosightseeing.

Juha Hyvonen (Finland)said he would like toextend the championshipby two days, starting on aSaturday and ending on aSaturday. Nick said hewould like to extend thecombined event by oneday from the board'sproposal.

Valter called for a vote onthe format — 7 days/6nights versus 8 days/7

nights. The result was 9votes each way. It wasdecided to awaitproposals from thepotential WPC/WSChosts.

Will presented the WPFfinancial report asprepared by Peter. Hesaid it would appear in thenext newsletter andonline.

For the election of a boardmember to fill KamerAlyanakyan's seat, onlyone nomination had metthe deadline (Kamer),according to the WPFstatutes. The assemblyvoted to allow latenominations. Two newcandidates, Gyorgy Istvanand Blanka Lehotska,were nominated. Eachcandidate spoke abouthimself and his or herreasons for wanting theposition.

The vote was as follows:Kamer — 11, Gyorgy —10. So Kamer was electedto a full three-year term.

For the site selection ofthe 2011 WPC/WSC, onlyone nomination had metthe deadline (Bulgaria),according to the statutes.The assembly voted toallow late nominations.

Gyorgy asked for the voteon the site selection to bedelayed until January orFebruary and beconducted by email ... or,alternatively, to bedelayed until April and bevoted on at the WSC inPhiladelphia. This motionwas defeated 18-2.

There were three offers tohost the event:

Deyan Razsadov(Bulgaria) offered Albena,a resort town on the BlackSea, at either the end ofSeptember or the start ofOctober. He said he isprepared to host bothchampionships — eightdays (two more days thanthe current WPC). Theprice per competitorwould be no more than500 euros. Up to eightcompetitors would beallowed per country. Thepuzzles would be madeby Bulgarianpuzzlemakers with someforeign contributions.

Zoran Tanasic (Serbia)offered Belgrade, with aseven-day championshipsometime in October. Theprice per competitor

would be 500 euros. Thecompetition puzzles wouldbe made mainly bySerbian puzzlemakers.

Gyorgy Istvan (Hungary)offered Debrecen, with aneight-day championship,probably in October, anda cost per competitor notto exceed 550 euros.

The vote was: Hungary —13, Serbia — 5, Bulgaria— 4. Hungary, having anoutright majority, wasselected.

Riccardo Albini (Italy) saidhe would like theWPC/WSC instructionbooklets to be presentedonline sooner — at least14 days in advance of theevent, in order to giveparticipants more time toprepare.

Gyorgy said he would likea more active WPFwebsite, with, forexample, the contents ofall past WPF newsletters,sample puzzles from pastWPC's, and full resultsfrom previouschampionships. He wouldalso like more regularreports from the board ofofficers regarding itsactivities and decisions.

Jan Lamm (Netherlands)said he would like theRules & Regulationscommittee to establishrules for the combinedWPC/WSC — how many

people per WSC team,what time of year thecombined event will beheld, etc.

Riccardo said he wouldlike to see stricterguidelines for theWPC/WSC puzzles, tolimit the role of luckyguessing. He would alsolike more oversight of thescoring rules for bothevents.

The pros and cons ofallowing “B” teams atWPF events were againdiscussed.

Will and Nick made apresentation on the 5thWSC to be held inPhiladelphia, USA, onApril 29 - May 2.

Jacek Szczap (Poland)made announcementsregarding the 2010 WPCto be held in October orNovember (dateuncertain) near Warsaw.

Will offered thanks toKamer, Ferhat, Zafer, andthe rest of the TurkishWPC organizers forhosting an outstandingchampionship.

There being no furtherbusiness, the meetingwas adjourned onNovember 5 at 17:40.

As my friends and I had

already gathered a team of

Turkish puzzle creators for

WPC 1998 - Istanbul, in

December of 1997 when

Championship Coordinator

Nevzat Erkmen gave us

the news that he had

come to a cooperation

agreement with our

Japanese friends to create

the puzzle competition

parts for WPC 1998, and

after our efforts to

convince him to change

his decision failed, we

were so upset and our

motivation was so

hammered that all of us

had withdrawn from taking

any further part in the

organizational process. Of

course, Japan had a long

and healthy puzzling

tradition and everyone

admired the Japanese

puzzle magazines we

came accross each year at

the WPC's, and we were

pretty certain that the

WPC 1998 competition

would be a success, but

where else but in WPC -

Istanbul would the Turkish

puzzlers rise to the

challenge and begin to

salute the world puzzle

community with world-

class competitive logical

puzzles? The answer to

this question was in Oulu -

WPC 2002, where the

championship puzzles

were designed by creators

from 8 different countries,

including 3 Turks, Cihan

Altay, Metin Balcı and

Ferhat Çalapkulu. The

positive feedback

regarding these Turkish

puzzle creations gave us

the final push and the

motivation we needed to

fulfill our long-time dream

to create our own puzzle

publications; as a result

Akıl Oyunları Magazine

was born the following

year. Subsequently, Akıl

Oyunları became the

Turkish representative of

the WPF, and the

opportunity to prepare and

host a second WPC in

Turkey finally presented

itself in 2009, one year

after a great majority of the

WPF members honoured

us the task with their

online votes, selecting

Antalya as the host city for

WPC 2009.

The global economic crisis

made it very difficult for us

to find a strong corporate

main sponsor to the event.

However, mainly logistic

contributions from Antalya

Municipality and the

Mediterranean

Association of Touristic

Hoteliers (AKTOB)

strengthened us and

allowed us to organize our

event more efficiently.

Among our other

sponsors were Conceptis

Puzzles, Keypad Sistem,

Tadım, T-Box and Tui

Travel.

Due to some late changes

in the convention

scheduling of our original

selected hotel in July and

thier demand for us to

move the championship to

an earlier or later date, for

the convenience of our

participants we chose to

keep the scheduled dates

and preferred to change

the venue to Delphin Diva

Premiere Hotel instead.

The traditional Turkish

hospitality and warmth of

Delphin's personnel along

with the exceptional food,

location, beach and

facilities contributed

greatly to the level of our

championship.

We formed a core team of

dedicated fellow Turkish

puzzle friends as well as

some professionals to

organize the 18th WPC,

which consisted of: Ferhat

Çalapkulu, Zafer Say,

Hüsnü Sincar, Tunay Ece,

Ülkü Çırak, Gülce

Özkütük, Serkan Yürekli,

Deren Çağlayan, Hatice

Çalapkulu, Aysun Öztekin,

Erhan Seyis and many

others, all of which took

their duties very seriously

and simplified my job as

general coordinator. For

example, our

communications director

Zafer Say would be so

upset to find out that I

replied to some e-mails

before forwarding them to

him that I stopped

answering all except

those regarding WPF

Board issues. We couldn't

have succeeded without

the dedication and efforts

by all who were involved,

including our many

volunteers during WPC

2009, and we are ever

thankful to all of them.

Long before we had

finalized the details of

WPC - 2009, we

announced the launch of

Oğuz Atay Puzzle Contest

(OAPC), a WPC side

event, and began to

organize this series of

monthly online

competitions to allow

puzzlers worldwide to

begin sharing the

competitive puzzling

atmosphere ten months in

advance and to prepare

themselves more

efficiently for the WPC,

and we were very glad to

see such high levels of

participation including

some of the best puzzlers

of the world. Two

members of our WPC

2009 Competition Team

ran this task with great

dedication and success;

namely Gülce Özkütük

and Serkan Yürekli, who

have recently joined

hands in marriage in

Team ofpuzzlemakers

Among some other ideas

implemented in WPC

2009 were:

-the unofficial participation

of junior puzzlers

(Slovakian and Turkish

juniors were the first to

attend),

-the use of remote

solution entering systems

(namely the Keypad

System),

-the fun, interactive and

visual team optimization

part (snake) to be the

opening part of the World

Puzzle Championship

instead of the usual

opening parts involving

individual solving on

paper,

-preparing a bulletin

summarizing the recent

performance of all of the

WPC 2009 competitors

over the past 9 years,

-the implementation of the

idea of final head-to-head

team competitions to

determine the ordering of

the teams instead of

simply adding up the

points from previous

championship rounds,

-the easy-to-follow

scoreboard screen to

facilitate the perception of

who is leading a playoff

match-up at any given

time.

The spirit and joy of

physical puzzle solving for

the WPC-2009 actually

began before the WPC

competition itself, during

the Pre-WPC Welcome

Party which took place on

Sunday, November 1st in

Istanbul, two days before

the official opening in

Antalya, where

participants from Estonia,

Hungary, Italy and USA

had a tough time trying to

find the location of the

party in stormy weather!

Two media companies

had sent cameras and

reporters to cover this

unofficial opening in

Istanbul and they

interviewed our guests. All

of those who attended

had the privilege to

experience the warm

atmosphere of the

Prokopi Restaurant in the

Beyoğlu District of

Istanbul; the welcome

speech of Nevzat

Erkmen, the Honorary

Captain of the Turkish

Puzzle Team, marked the

unofficial start of the 18th

WPC.

Some of our guests had

already arrived in Antalya

at the end of October, and

had already begun to

enjoy the sun and

Mediterranean Sea before

others. In the end, all of

our competitors and

guests arrived safely to

Antalya, mostly on

Tuesday November the

3rd. After the opening

announcement by

Chairman of the WPF

Board, Valter Kvalic, the

18th World Puzzle

Championship officially

started; but not without a

thunder! Wednesday's

planned outdoor

excursion to Aspendos

Antique Theater had to be

modified due to the

extreme weather

conditions which had

also forced the Governor

to announce a one-day

vacation for all schools

of Antalya on

wednesday. However,

the substitute trip to

Antalya Museum and a

short visit to the Castle

of Antalya (Kaleici) was

a pleasant experience

for those who attended.

Apart from the

thunderstorms on the

excursion day, things

were actually running

very smoothly, including

the technical meeting.

'What a relaxing

championship for me

this is going to be' I

thought, but boy was I

wrong: day 1 of

competitions, November

5th marked the busiest

day of my life ever!

Greeting and talking to

so many reporters and

coordinating their efforts

to cover the WPC

efficiently, making phone

connections to local and

national radio stations,

attending the WPF

Congress and Board

Meetings were among

the things that kept me

so busy and alert at all

times. I was supposed to

wear the clothing and

make-up of Santa Claus

before the Sprint Part

and present a short

comedy to release the

tension of our

competitors, but since I

couldn't create time to

change to his clothes, I

modified the joke at the

last minute and I talked

to him over the phone

instead. The day's

activities ended with our

fun paint-by-numbers

side event, the 'Karala!

Cup', which was won by

Michael Ley of Germany.

On Friday, day 2 of WPC

competitions, apart from

the General Assembly

and Board Meetings, I

felt like a tourist on

vacation because

surprisingly neither the

organizers nor our

guests needed me for

anything, except for our

photographer. Aytaç

Onay, our mad and

imaginative

photographer made use

of my extra time by

entering me into the

Turkish Bath and took

half-naked photos which

appeared in Turkey's

leading newspaper that

sunday; later when I

realized he had buried

Will Shortz into the sand

to take his photos, I

couldn't decide which

one of us was more

fortunate! Our plan was

not to take team photos

during a special photo

session right before the

championship and rather

to take them at scattered

times throughout the

event, but due to the

artistic ambitions of

Aytaç, these sessions

were often longer than

expected. Day 2 ended

with the sudoku side

event, the 'Sudoku ve

Ötesi Cup', which was

won by Thomas Snyder

of USA.

Even though I was

aware that use of the

'Keypad System' could

simplify life greatly, I

couldn't help but think of

possible crash scenarios

and had resisted to the

idea for a long time.

However, due to their

familiarity with the

device and having used

the system on even

more crowded corporate

events in the past,

Ferhat and Tunay

vouched for the system

and after a successful

demo session, I agreed

to its limited use. We

hope that the use of

similar systems will

contribute to the

success of WPC's in the

future.

The first two competition

days of WPC came to

an end without major

problems. As we were

nearing the end of the

championship, we had

already surprised Liane,

Štefan and Robert by

celebrating their

birthdays. We were

being honoured by the

kind praising words of

many participants and

friends regarding the

championship, and

everything seemed to be

in order. However,

encountering several

difficulties before and

during the playoffs, first

having to postpone the

team event to the

afternoon, and later

being forced to stop

halfway through and

replay the individual final

due to a faulty solution

sheet are all things we

would very much like to

have avoided and

cannot apologize

enough for. In the end,

Germany won the team

finals fairly easy, and

Germany's Ulrich Voigt

clinched the individual

title for the 7th time.

A notable result of the

championship was that

the top seven individual

places were obtained by

puzzlers from seven

different countries for

the first time in the 18-

year history of the World

Puzzle Championships.

We believe that this is a

healthy indicator that the

puzzle sport fever is

spreading around the

world. We tried to put

our brick in the wall, next

to those from so many

other dedicated people

and nations, and we

hope everyone will

remember Antalya 2009

in a nice way.

The Past, Present and

In 1999, FIVB (World

Volleyball Federation) had

decided to make some

very important changes in

the rules of volleyball. The

purpose was very simple:

to make the game more

interesting for the

spectators and TV, and as

a result, to get more

sponsors. In all sports,

there is always an

evolution in the rules for

this same purpose.

As the captain of a

country's puzzle team

who hasn't had sponsors

for a very long time, I

would like to share my

ideas about the evolution

of the Sport of Puzzles.

In 1992, the organisers of

the first WPC had decided

to make an event with lots

of team and individual

parts with different

themes. At the end of the

WPC, they nominated the

best individual and best

team as champions.

Since then, the

competition format has

more or less been the

same, except for the

introduction of play-offs in

2000. Since that year, the

individual champion is

decided at the end of the

play-offs, which are the

most spectator and TV-

friendly parts of the three

days of competitions.

Since 1992, although

there has been many

innovative ideas for the

individual and team parts,

the current format that

creates only one

individual champion and

one team champion

hasn't helped WPF and

most of its member

countries in finding

sponsors. Not only

Turkey, but many other

countries competing in

the WPC's are facing the

same sponsor problem.

I know there are many

difficulties in making

major changes, this is

why I'm suggesting a very

small change, as follows:

First of all, the WPF

should decide 10-12

events as the categories

of the Puzzle Sports.

These 10-12 events will

each be held as a

separate competition,

which means that at the

end of each event, there

will be a world champion

in that discipline. Here are

some parts from previous

WPC's:

If and when we make this

'multi-disciplines' change,

there will be 30-36

medals distributed to

many individuals from at

least 9-10 countries.

Those medals can help

more countries to find

sponsors.

And for the competitors,

every part would contain

a chance to win a medal.

We know that in the

WPC's there are 30-40

competitors who may

always have a chance to

win a medal in such a

format. But after a bad

first day, some of these

people are likely to lose

their motivation, whereas

my proposed system

would help keep their

competitive spirit high

right through to the end of

the WPC.

Based on the rankings in

the last two WPC's,in

Antalya and in Minsk,

here are the results of

some appropriate

individual parts. (In case

of equal points, more

medals were given)

details to be discussed

What happened in theNetherlands the last year?First there was ournational sudokuchampionship; andsecond, we launchedsome new logicmagazines.

In December and Januaryin keeping with ourtradition, we organizedthe Dutch SudokuChampionship. It startedwith four weeks of apuzzle a week in thebiggest newspaper DeTelegraaf. The puzzlerswho solved all foursudokus correctly wonentry to a 90-minutequalification test on theInternet. The 40 bestplayers came to the livefinal on January 23rd inthe building of thatnewspaper. After tworounds of classic andsudoku variations, the topeight went to the playoffswith a lot of suspense andemotions. Unfortunatelythe two best players madelittle mistakes. The top

three winners (Bram deLaat, Rick Uppelschotenand Niels Roest) formedthe Dutch team forPhiladelphia's WSC.

Besides the well-knownBreinbrekers and the one-year-old Braintrainer, amonthly, full-colormagazine (in France it iscalled Fitness) with a lotof logic puzzles(brainteasers, memory,mastermind, find thedifferences), publishinghouse Keesing haslaunched three more newmagazines:

Denk je fit (Think yourselfin shape) with for everyday a variety of puzzles tokeep the mind up-to-date.This monthly is for a bigaudience and containsbesides logic also wordpuzzles like arrow words,quizzes and codecrosswords.

In the summer wepublished a special,(Logisch Vakantieboek orLogic Holiday Book) with

more than 250 of the mostpopular logic problems:battleships, hashi, chainsudoku, mosaic, tentje-boompje, calcudoku,fences and more.

Last but not least welaunched a new puzzletype, Binairy puzzles, alsoknown as Binairo. Afterseven issues it seems tobe becoming a success inBelgium and theNetherlands. It is an easy-to-learn logic puzzle,which uses only the digits0 and 1 to fill the grid inaccordance with threesimple rules: in every rowand column the samenumber of zeros andones; no more than two ofthe same number next toor under each other, norows or columns withexactly the same content.
