Ozone modelling involves about a hun- dred chemical reactions on top of the problems of global transport, dispersion and time dependen- cies. Large discrepancies exist between modelled and measured quantities; the uncertainties are not likely to be quickly resolved. Formaldehyde at Enewetak Atoll in the equatorial Pacific probably originates solely from the methane oxidation chain. Concentrations there are among the lowest reported: 8:t:2 ug/kg in rain- water and about 0.5 ~g/m 3 in the gas phase. Rain- out flux to the sea is estimated at 0.010 g m-2 y-l, and gaseous flux at 0.05 g m -~ y-1. The measured mixing ratio is 0.18 ppbv--close to theoretical calculations. Canada, because of its high latitude, is especially sensitive to climatic change. For example, a return to temperature patterns of just 2 centuries ago would compel a 75% reduction of its grain exports. For the same reason, paleoclimatic events are rather more evident here, making Canada an es- pecially good study area. In consequence, the National Museum of Natural Sciences has in- stituted a Climatic Change Project, largely con- cerned with the past few hundred years, but studying changes occurring up to 20,000 years ago.
