The Fall Show is over, but for the artists of the 65 paintings, it's a wonderful memory. The 38th Juried Fall Show, entitled "Be Yourself," hung for the month of October at North Hills Gallery in Northwest Hills Methodist Church--our traditional location for the Fall Show. At a reception on October 9 we announced the winners and merit award recipients. We also recognized long-time member Carolyn Patterson with an Honorary Lifetime Membership. In
this newsletter, we recognize all the show winners. Pictured above, Lonnie Shan's painting that won First Prize, The First Ride.

We will exchange something you painted, but this time, make it into a card that can be mailed. You can either use a pre-made watercolor greeting card or do a small painting that can be sent as a card. Be sure to include an envelope so the recipient can use your creation as a special greeting card. As before, bring your card/painting and envelope in a plain 8.5” x 11” envelope. Please don’t put your name on the outside. These do not need to have a holiday theme, but they can. Surprise us!
—Nancy Charbeneau, WWG President

Our annual WWG Holiday Party will be on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Nancy Charbeneau’s home, 7405 Creekbluff Dr., Austin, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking will be easy because there is lots of parking and driveway space available.
As we did last year, our food will be potluck, so please bring something to share – an appetizer, main dish, sides, or dessert (and bring utensils for it). We will provide plates, napkins, eating utensils, cups and beverages.

WWG Honors Carolyn Patterson with Lifetime Membership
WWG awarded Carolyn Patterson, long-time Austin artist and WWG member, with an honorary lifetime membership at its Fall Show reception in October. Carolyn received a cash award and will also have a $100 award for a painting in her name at our Fall Juried Show.
Carolyn Patterson is a past President of WWG and has lived in Austin more than 30 years.. A graduate of UT, Carolyn majored in art education and taught junior high art while living in the Dallas area. She continued to pursue her art by experimenting with various media including stained glass. After she and her husband Jim moved to Austin, they became very active in Northwest Hills Methodist Church.
She joined WWG and attended many workshops while at the same time focusing more and more on watercolor. She has won many honors and
prizes. In 1997, a new Northwest Hills building including classrooms and offices was finished. A large circular stained glass window designed by Carolyn is the focal point of the sanctuary. In 2001 Carolyn realized a project she had been working toward since the new building
was finished, an art gallery, which had its first show in May 2001. Carolyn and Betty Jameson became the co-curators with the job of choosing artists who would display work in the gallery. Since 2001, a new show every month has been chosen, coordinated, publicized and opened with a North Hills Gallery sponsored reception. Carolyn continues her dedication to North Hills Gallery and her loyalty and service to WWG.

Upcoming opportunities for WWG members
Bookworms to meet Nov. 19
Bookworms will meet on Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Eileen Pestorius to review the work of a local writer, Dominic Smith, in his new book, The Last Painting of Sara De Vos. He unfolds a tale of the Dutch Golden Age of painting when 50,000 painters worked. This fictional tale spans four centuries and three continents. The Last Painting of Sara De Vos has won accolades for stunning writing. Smith, an Austinite born in Australia, has won a Dobie Paisano Fellowship and a Michener Fellowship. All WWG members are welcome, but let Eileen know you are coming.

January 28 WWG Meeting will include Framing Workshop
WWG will elect several new officers for the next two years at our annual Membership Meeting at Apache Shores on January 28. It will also include a framing workshop with Helen Green. If you are interested in learning how to order frames online and assemble them at home, you will benefit from this workshop. It will also include how judges respond to framing and how important it is to have a professional presentation. For more information on framing, contact Helen.

January 11 Trip to Kimbell Planned
The Activities Committee is planning a bus trip again to the Kimbell Art Museum to see “Monet: The Early Years.” We have chartered a bus to take us to Fort Worth on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017. Like last year, the plan is to leave at 7 a.m. from Barton Square Mall and have a pickup in Georgetown if needed. We will have two docent
groups, each limited to just over 15 people at 2 p.m. We will depart Fort Worth around 3:30 p.m.
We have reserved a big bus. It will seat 52, but only 33 can have the docent tour. The price is $65, which includes the bus fare, entrance to the special exhibit ($16.00), and snacks for the bus including wine and cheese on the trip home. Lunch is on your own. Both the Kimbell and the Modern Art Museum have restaurants.
The Monet exhibit runs from Oct. 16 through January 29, 2017 and features 60 paintings of Monet from his Normandy debut in 1858 until 1872 Show above: a portion of his painting On the Beach at Trouville (1870). He was mostly in his 20s during this time. The painting above is in the show.
Don’t wait, the bus is filling up. Your place will be reserved by payment. Checks should be made out to Michele Missner and mailed to WWG, c/o Michele Missner, 5511A Oakwood Cove, Austin, Texas 78731

WWG Planning Fall Show at Wildflower Center
“Birds, Blooms and Bugs” (of North America) will be the title of a show at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center next fall. The McDermott Gallery at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will host Waterloo Watercolor Group during October through December 2, 2017. Under the direction of Joseph Hammer, the Center’s artistic director, this sought-after location has featured many award winning artists from around the world. They rarely feature a group, preferring single artists instead. We are certain that WWG will not disappoint! For more information, contact Carol Sue Witt or Jennifer Polnaszek.

WWG members are invited to submit one or two pieces of water-based media art. The venue will hold about 40 paintings. For those who choose to enter more than one painting, it will be juried initially by jpeg. Mark will pick the winners in person on the Sunday before the workshop. A prospectus for the show will soon be listed on the WWG website. For more information, contact show chairmen Helen Green and Jennifer Polnaszek.

Have you seen the WWG Bass Art Exhibit yet?
Wet Paint, November-December 2016, Page 11
Be one of the thousands who will have an opportunity to see the WWG show at Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas campus. The show will hang until Jan. 9, through a heavy concert season. Thanks to Eileen Pestorius, WWG had the opportunity to exhibit members’ paintings for more than three months and get some attention from the community. Eileen coordinated the show and urged WWG members to submit some of their best artwork in order to make this show work. Parking can be difficult, but there is a parking garage nearby and street parking. Or better yet, attend one of the
upcoming events at Bass and you’ll have a great opportunity to see the exhibit.
Our Spring Workshop with Mark Mehaffey is filling fast
There are only seven more places available in our spring workshop, April 24-27. Please refer to the WWG website for the workshop description, a bio of Mark Mehaffey, our workshop instructor, supply list and the form to register and pay with either PayPal or by check. It should be a terrific workshop covering both realism and abstract, watercolor and acrylics. Give yourself a gift or
suggest it as a gift for the holidays. Only $280 for members for a four-day workshop.
Card making can be fun and easy
Four attendees plus mini workshop hostess, Michele Missner, tried their hands at making cards from old paintings and scraps. What fun! This mini workshop took place Oct. 20 at the home of Michele...just in time for our card exchange at our holiday party. At right, a card made by Paula Kemp.
