Activity Reports
It has finally happened, first time in a long, long time that the weather had stopped any of us getting out and having a fish, is this the tone of things to come, I wonder if it is the demise of global warm-ing, or was it the uncertainty of the oncoming elec-tions that caused us to all stay indoors. What ever caused it all, I am sure that it has passed and from here on it it can only get better with the sun to bring us from our winter hibernation.
Pt Augusta Kingfish
September 16 till 19 is our next planned activity.
September is a good time for the Kingfish to visit the Pt Augusta area near the Electricity station.
Lofty and Paul will make the trip up there and have a try for the Kingfish, they will be staying in the BIG4 Cabin Park.
Looking forward to their report at the next meeting.
Veterans Health week
Sunday 20th October is a family fun day to wind up the week of activities held around the state by the Department of Veterans affairs in South Australia.
It will commence at 11 am and finishing at 3 pm
The WVFG will be having an area inside the main hall to promote the group and what it stands for, also to put the word out amongst the Veteran com-munity of how we can be of help to Veterans and their families.
Kevin Stone has been in touch with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Adelaide for further infor-mation on the day and outlined the format which the Department will be doing for Veterans Health Week.
Graham Parks was elected to co-ordinate our group with activities during the day.
At this stage we have the following people allocat-ed to these activities:-
* Vic Ellul, to contact Fisheries and PIRSA for handout such as Crab, Cockle, Abalone and Lob-ster measuring markers, booklets on Marine Parks and the environment.
*Greg Dwiar has the WVFG library of pictures which we can show on a TV screen featuring mem-bers and catches of fish
* Graham Parks to write to MacDonald's and Hun-gry Jacks for vouchers to be used in their stores
* Nick Williams to make contact with Greg James about appearing as a guest some time through out the day.
* We may be able to get a young lass who is very good at making balloon animals and flowers for the younger ones attending.
It is hoped that we will be able to put on various displays throughout the day relating to fishing, charters and tasting of fish.
If you have a couple of hours on the day to assist, please see Graham and he will allocate you a activ-ity to help out on
If you have an idea that could be used on the day, please tell Kevin or Graham.
Kevin has got a banner made up using the same design as our letter head logo, it will be a eye catching visual of where our stand will be in the drill hall.
Carp Day
There is another Carp fishing day being arranged for TUESDAY 15th OCTOBER on the banks of the River Torrens near the Morphett St Bridge.
Our last sortie to the Torrens was attended by quite a few members and a lot of fun was had by those who attended.
Many different baits were used on the day, varying from Sweet Corn, Strawberries, Chocolate, Worms, Shrimps, Bread Dough even a Cockle or two was tried.
The day will start about 10.30 and finish up some-time around 2pm allowing enough time to beat the city traffic at both parts of the day, Parking may be a bit awkward this year as there is a lot of construc-tion going on around the Adelaide Oval and the new R.A.H precincts, just be aware of where you park to avoid contributing to the ACC coffers.

Future Activities
Future Activities Bring your own lunch and refreshments, a chair to sit on, a decent hat to shade you and of course your favourite rod for catching the Carp. A plastic bag or an esky to put your catch in, as the Carp are not allowed to be returned to the waterways.
The idea of the Carp day is that these fish do make an excellent bait for our next crabbing day.

Goolwa
Nick Williams has booked two units at Goolwa beach for 3 nights on the 18th, 19, 20th November, they are 3 bedroom units which can sleep up to 5 persons in each unit.
Lofty and mate worked hard amongst the waves to get their limits of cockles
This is just at the start of the cockle season for those looking to have some supplies for the oncom-ing fishing season, the cost of a unit is $75 per night which will work out to $45 per person for the 3
nights if we get 10 people interested, Nick has 3 people booked in already, Nick will take booking at this months meeting or you can phone Nick at home or his mobile( his phone numbers are in your con-tact list distributed at the beginning of the year). Mick Mummery and Jeff Barrett have already booked their bunks.
Boat owners also let Nick know if you are going and staying for the 3 nights, boat parking is available, however if everyone takes a car then space will be limited to boats first and cars will have to find their own spaces.
Balgowan
Tug has booked a charter with Michael and clayton for the 16th December during the opening of the Snapper season at the present time this charter is all booked out, keep in touch with Tug as the time nears, as weather conditions can determine the de-parture.
Relaxing before the action begins at Balgowan
Marion Bay
The first charter for the New Year is on January 30th, Kevin Stone has all the details, there is one spot remaining at the moment, the full cost is $240. For you to grab the last spot a $60 deposit can be given to Kevin at the coming meeting, Kevin will give a detailed update of the charter.

Xmas break up and awards day.
Once again the Xmas break up and awards luncheon will be at the Ambassadors Hotel on the 30th November in the city commencing 12 noon for a 12.30 start.
This is a prestigious event which should not be missed by anyone, of course your wives and part-ners are most welcome to be with you on this re-laxing afternoon, it is when we present the inau-gural Rod Langman Trophy for the Fisherman of the Year and the unnamed Catch of the Year awards.
A $20 non refundable deposit should be paid to the Treasurer at the next meeting to indicate your attendance. It was a pleasant afternoon last year, lets keep it continuing.

Rod Langman memorial seat
Pt Wakefield.
Graham Parks reported that Council has given the approval for the seat to be placed at the Pt Wake-field boat ramp in memory of our late member Rod Langman. As we all know, Rod spent many days at Pt Wakefield fishing, then returning to his com-fortable caravan and annex for sleeping and cook-ing. Rod was also a member of 86 TPT platoon in SVN and a member of their Association in Ade-laide. 86 TPT have joined in with us to unveil the seat and have a name plaque similar to the one we will be affixing to the seat. Graham will have more information to when this event will happen at the next meeting.
A strong and sturdy aluminium seat similar to this is the style of seat the Pt Wakefield Council has recommended.
Car stickers
We have now had the War Veterans Fishing Group car stickers made and are ready for pur-chase from Greg at any meeting, A decision was made at the last meeting to sell them for $2 each or 5 for $10

Rod Langman Award
Mick Mummery was tasked with getting the infor-mation on a perpetual trophy for the Rod Lang-man award, Mick was able to show us some bro-chures and a suitable trophy was chosen along with the memento to go to this years winner.
WVFG Guidelines
After 3 months of debating and having been put in writing to the members, the WVFG Chairman Guidelines was voted upon at the meeting. All members of the group were informed in writing of the guidelines. Many submission were given to the Chairman and changed to accommodate those submissions. After all voting slips had been handed in at the meeting either by post, hand or electronically, by the stipulated time of 11.am, the final result was 15 votes for, 8 votes against, with 17 members abstaining to vote. The vote was car-ried.
A Good Deal with BFC
Shaun Cox who was one of the first charter oper-ators to assist the group many years back at Pt Hughes has been rediscovered working at the BCF store at Gepps Cross.
Sid, in his ever mysterious ways, came across Shaun working in their store, Shaun told Sid that
the BFC store at Gepps Cross would really look af-ter any members of the WVFG, if they ask for Shaun and do business with him, even if you have not met Shaun, ask for him next time you are purchasing from them, introduce yourself and then let him give you a deal.
Fish Smoker
Sid Jamieson has bought a fish smoker from a cata-logue company, the parcel arrived , Sid relived his childhood days with his Meccano sets and went about putting it together. Sid brought it to the last meeting to explain how it works and the different types of flavours you can achieve using it. The trial run will happen during the next month and a full re-port will be given at the next meeting.

Live Bait Tank
Nick Williams has been busy making his own live bait fish tank, using the same principals as manu-factured ones and costing under half the price, Nick scoured eBay for the right priced compo-nents, the local hardware store for all the plastic fittings. The results on the first trial showed some minor flaws in the construction, but with a couple of minor modifications, the next trial proved to be a winner, with the unit doing a good job, Nick can give you all the costings and schematics of how it goes together if you are interested in putting one in your boat.
Nick shows how he made an inexpensive live bait tank for his boat.
The meeting was closed at 12 noon. We all retired to a bbq lunch prepared by Di-on, and the refresh-
ment supplied by the TPI association.
