The survey, which will take you less than ten minutes to complete, asks questions about the current programs and services of the library and what you would like the library to offer in the future. Go to the library’s home page, http://www.cityofyankton.org/y ankton/library/index.php, and click on Library Survey on the left side of the page. The sur- vey will be open until May 22. We encourage all people who participated in the focus groups to take the survey as well as these questions give us quantitative answers. At the conclusion of the online sur- vey, District III will compile all of the information from both the survey and focus groups and present it to the Building Task Force. Wilkins OBITUARIES MITCHELL — Women and men, including current breast cancer patients and survivors, will benefit directly from this year’s South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure grant program. The South Dakota Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, one of more than 125 affiliates nationwide dedicated to put- ting an end to breast cancer, recently provided community grants totaling $236,650 to sup- port breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs throughout the state. Priority for funding was given to pro- grams benefiting those who are un-insured or under-insured, and those in rural/remote loca- tions. “Despite a challenging econ- omy, people in South Dakota understand the need to contin- ue the fight against breast can- cer and they helped make it possible for the South Dakota Affiliate to provide $236,650 to help South Dakotans in the fight against cancer,” said Kathy Manning, president of the Komen South Dakota Affiliate. “To ensure our funds are mak- ing the greatest impact, the Komen South Dakota Affiliate works with local medical experts and community leaders to conduct comprehensive community needs assessments. We have identified specific, unmet breast health needs within our state and ‘filled in the gaps,’ delivering the life-sav- ing message of early detection, and providing assistance to medically underserved breast cancer patients and their fami- lies.” Area South Dakota agencies receiving 2010 grants are: • Avera St. Benedict Health Center, Parkston, for breast health awareness, education and screenings for rural women. • Platte Health Care Center Avera, Platte, for breast health awareness, education and screenings for up to 15 rural women. • Yankton Rural Health Education Center, Yankton, for the training of four rural health care providers from Yankton and Sturgis who will provide breast health education in 15 rural communities across the state. The South Dakota Affiliate of the Komen Foundation will hold its third annual Race for the Cure on Sept. 26, in Vermillion. Funds raised through this event are used to support programs like those listed above.
